  1. That was a terrible AB by Betts. Two very hittable pitches watched float by, then swinging at one in the dirt. Where is his discipline?
  2. Wrong! The best play Manny ever made was the catch in LF, one step on the fence, high-fiving the fan, and doubling the runner off first base.
  3. Manny! Manny! MANNY!!!
  4. Two passed balls and a steal of home in one inning?
  5. Thank God that western road trip is over and the RS don't have to face this brutal 70-80 degree spell we're suffering from now.
  6. Now wait a second. Then why do we sometimes close our eyes at the crucial moment in ...
  7. Serious question: what does it mean to "not know how to pitch." Catcher calls pitch and location. Is this just a figure of speech (ERod can't put the ball where he wants)? Or that under pressure, he's not willing, say, to throw a strike?
  8. Maybe the RS pitchers should consider putting the ball in the lower half of the strike zone?
  9. Blessedly, I know none of the names mentioned in this thread. Well, except for David Price; wasn't he on a WS team?
  10. Right. MLB is out to screw the RedSox, just as the NBA has it in for the Lakers and Golden State and the NFL is trying to make sure Boston and, say, the Cowboys fail. How else do you explain the RS having to play HALF their games away from Fenway Park????
  11. Maybe a nefarious conspiracy (because MLB of course WANTS to RS to fail!). But my understanding is that athletes in all prof. sports hate cross-country flights and (for East Coast teams) the inevitable west-coast trip. I'm pretty sure if you asked the players about this year's schedule, they would have been glad to see so much of their west coast schedule out of the way early. (Now, of course, their testimony will be worthless.)
  12. You would prefer to be playing in Boston in early April?
  13. Well, Mookie's decision at least finally kept them out of a possible double-play.
  14. OMG, what a horrible baserunning move.
  15. JBJ is obviously a great athlete. But there is nothing about that swing from set-up to follow-through that explains how he ever managed those few hot streaks in his career. He doesn't need an 'adjustment'; he needs a major overhaul--e.g., a change to Hriniak style? It's hard to imagine a worse swing than he has (well, except when he tried the toe-tap thing that I recall pretty much ruined Daniel Nava's career.)
  16. I can! 2 or 3 times in the last five or six years.
  17. OMG! You are a glutton for punishment. Does the beagle howl (as do all I've ever known)? I assume the hounds bay away when they feel like chasing something, which is all the time. And the cattle dog is up for playing fetch about 20 hours a day? (I'm dogsitting a shih-tzu mix--that's 22 hours of sleep a day, 1/4 hour eating, another hour walking, and whatever time remains, demanding to be brushed. HIGHLY recommended dog!)
  18. Yes, but as I'm sure you know (since this discussion comes up over and over again in sports), ticket prices have essentially nothing to do with the salaries of players, nor do the price of beer and hot-dogs. They are set by a relatively simple computation--what price do you set for admission (or for a hot-dog) that maximizes the take. No team will sell a ticket for $10 that can sell for $50. Whether players make 10 million a year or $1/hour does not affect this calculation.
  19. RS already have the highest payroll in MLB. So exactly who could they have gotten, and what would it have cost (in terms of players they would have to give up to make room).
  20. Ah yes! Shreveport Louisiana! Liberal Kansas! East Bumf*ck West Virginia! The culture! The chicks! The nightlife. All those fine restaurants and theaters. The spectacular views of the ocean. ... It just goes on and on.
  21. Well, so much for the first 'quality start' of the season.
  22. That's what makes blue states so great and why everyone wants to live there, whichever coast they're on--those taxes pay for services. But as far as baseball is concerned, I agree: all those East Coast whiners should move here to SoCal!
  23. Well, except for the fact that nearly everyone on the team (Betts excepted) is hitting at or far better than they did last year ... there is that. It is true, I'll grant you, that they had no 'momentum' from last year, since whatever momentum is, it has no application to sports.
  24. Exactly. Not everyone on the board has the sensibilities of an 11-year-old.
