  1. Exactly how is anyone going to discuss the topic "Will MLB Suspend the Season" without mentioning Covid19 and its effects? (Probably about the only thing S75 and I will agree on.)
  2. One of my best friends, who is a good athlete, in great shape, spent 5 days in the ICU, three weeks in the hospital. And now, after three months, says he is almost back as far as health is concerned, but has lost so much muscle mass, he is just beginning to exercise. Does that count as "really really" sick? Or is this "just the flu"?
  3. Good by me. I'm afraid we're going to see a lot of players opting out. Why risk what just happened to the Marlins? (and what may have happened to ERod?)
  4. I'm sure we've all seen it: high-fives, even high-five lines after a victory (well, the RS don't need to worry about that much), spitting (wasn't supposed to be allowed), very few masks, guys hanging out together in the dugout ... No surprise that half the team got infected. Unless serious mandates on player behavior are put into place and enforced, there is no way this season gets completed. Bellhorn4, where are you? How about double-or-nothing on whether the league lasts the next week?
  5. Maybe so. But then, we're talking about one extra AB (... GOSH! Benetendi's initials are the same as At Bat!!! Who knew? [maybe I should cut down on my ... smoking]). If you don't put JD or Devers there (and that doesn't really work), isn't Benetendi as good as anyone else? Or do you believe in the added pressure of batting first?
  6. 2019 wasn't as good as previous years (he's not alone in that). But the reality seems to be that he's a .270+ hitter (which is 20 points higher than the average MLB). So I'd take it, no?
  7. Nah. Fauci doesn't even make the cut for that honor.
  8. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29539873/rockies-daniel-bard-gets-win-first-major-league-game-2013 Obviously should never have released him.
  9. OK OK. I lose.
  10. I said I would take the unders on any number. You said 1. So now the question is will they finish the game tonight! (I think I'm sunk).
  11. Bellhorn4--- I gotta say, I'm not liking my chances on our bet. JAD
  12. OK. Speculation is over. The season has officially begun. And ok ok, Fauci's pitch may have been just a bit low and away. But this guy? I think you gotta give him that call! https://www.nj.com/yankees/2020/07/watch-dr-anthony-fauci-throws-wild-1st-pitch-before-yankees-nationals-on-opening-day.html
  13. Just a note to fans who feel aggrieved and victimized by the dastardly actions of MB: the two claims "Mookie is all about the money" and "He never would have signed in Boston for that amount" are contradictory.
  14. That is one of the worst 9th innings I've seen since ... when did I last see a ninth inning?
  15. Holy Crap!! I'm watching them LIVE! It's a miracle. (But the 'no-spitting' policy clearly isn't being enforced.
  16. If he had stayed healthy, it would have been a bargain (big IF, I know. But few contracts are written withthe assumption of a career-ending injury). Meanwhile, Bellhorn, I think you have the advantage on our bet. But I haven't given up.
  17. Well yeah. (Except for that being-a-professional-athlete-and-making-millions-of-dollars-a-year thing.)
  18. I probably didn't start following them (i.e. listening to Curt Gowdy) until about 1955, but yes, I feel your pain! My mother died just before they won the WS, as did the mother of one of my best friends. I called my friend from 3000 miles away just as Foulke was about to throw his last pitch. She got seriously pissed, claiming I was going to jinx it.
  19. Oh I agree. I always root for players I used to follow, no matter what the sport, and no matter who they play for. (Trying to think of an amusing exception ... ok, Austin Rivers, although I have to say, I'm now beginning to warm to him, simply because he's sort of a loud-mouthed a-hole [i can so relate] who doesn't mind getting into it with anyone.)
  20. Ha ha! Listen, whippersnapper, if you haven't hated them since the Casey Stengel days, you don't know what hate is! Meanwhile, are you still confident in our bet? I was about to concede until a few days ago; this last week may be a lot more interesting, alas, than either of us imagined.
  21. Then you're living in dreamland. The tortoise wins in the Aesop fable. But if you have ever seen a tortoise or a hare in the real world, you know this is b.s. The only advantage a tortoise has is that it lives longer! So if you want a 150-year-old right fielder with bad vision and an appetite for earthworms, the tortoise is definitely the way to go.
  22. If you're in a race, which is better?-- an over-priced Ferrari? Or a fleet of 1964 VW beetles, every one of which you got for a below market price?
  23. YES! Just saw this. The most surprising thing about this story is that he was a "mental skills" coach with the Diamondbacks! https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29484218/daniel-bard-makes-rockies-roster-seven-year-absence
