Well yes. I'd like to keep Devers and Xander. BECAUSE I KNOW THEM. That's the same reason I want to see JBJ, Betts and Beni. Of course you can replace guys statistically. But you can't expect fans to show the same sort of loyalty they've shown to players they know to a 'bunch of guys' they've never heard of. This is not a question of 'what makes the best team at the lowest cost'; it's a question of 'what do the fans care about'? If I only recognize one or two guys on the team, I don't give a crap if they lose 162 games. I'll just follow teams with players I'm familiar with.

If Henry had given a GM the charge "Here's your money: I want you to destroy whatever it is that has made fans look forward to a new season and has listened faithfully to a majority of games for the last ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty or more years." Had he done that, Bloom could not possibly have done a better job. So I have a question for Bloom apologists (who probably are better represented on sports boards, of course, than in the general population). Find me one fan (not in Bloom's immediate family) who says "Damn, I HATED those years when they had Betts, Beni, and JBJ. Never watched them. Never listened. Never went to a game. But NOW that we've gotten rid of all those guys, I can't wait for the season to start, and I just put in my order for season tickets."

JBJ finally traded. Now, if we can just get rid of Boggaerts and Devers, maybe dump Sale and Eovaldi, we'll have close to the team Bloom dreamed of having in Tamps. We also won't be troubled by having any fans in the ballpark. -
Right. And Agon? One of the most consistent modern players--put up almost the same numbers with the RS as everywhere else. (But ... well ... he didn't ... as they say ... 'fit in' ... I mean ... you know ... I'm not racist ... no one is in Boston ... but ... jes' sayin' ...)

But not being able to get through an inning of a ST game against what is often a pick-up line-up? That doesn't strike me as meaningless. Maybe they should adopt the "over the fence is out" rule as well.

But hey, this year, the RS can use the 'mercy rule,' as today. That should make up for other small things--like the fact that they got rid of their best players.

So Richards calls for the Mercy Rule to end Inning #1?? cool! As long as the Sox can do this all season, they should be fine.

As for winning someone over, NO ONE in the history of sports boards or social media generally, has ever advanced an argument that changed anyone's mind about anything, nor has anyone advanced an argument that was intended to do that.

5GGOF75 wasn't being ironic? (This discussion is way beyond my pay grade. I mean, resetting is nice, just like making out to no particular purpose was nice in high school--although I don't remember thinking WOW! in four years, I might be doing the same thing again.) I just hope one day to have an owner or GM who thinks: damn, I want to win and entertain my fan base: THEREFORE I will find and sign the best players I can.)

That's what I hoped for too. But when the power goes out here, the roar from generators is everywhere. (These things could be made quieter--look at cars! But everyone seems to be of the opinion that since their neighbor's generator is loud, their own must be louder.)

I've got one. But they aren't quite as easy and convenient as one might think. E.g., you can't really leave it running 24/7--you'll burn up propane uselessly, and unless you have a soundproof bedroom, you'll get no sleep. (But it's a lot better than not having one, and surely a lot better than a portable gas one.)

Cool! What about water? I suppose if you live on Sebago, you can just lug it or pump it (surreptitiously) from the lake. I cut my own wood too, but since I don't winter there anymore, a couple of cords of spruce and birch blowdowns usually does it.
