  1. This is another post with zero substance. No one is saying Papelbon sucks, or that the front office shouldn't consider replacing Bailey if he continues to struggle. And multiple posters have said they would take Papelbon back if he didn't cost so much.
  2. Bailey, Tazawa, Uehara or Breslow could probably all close. There's nothing magical about closing than a high quality set up man doesn't possess.
  3. Papelbon just blew another save. The Phillies must "make a move immediately!"
  4. Jackso Talk Sox User Guide 1. Log on to Talk Sox when the Red Sox are losing. 2. Make a bombastic prediction about how the Yankees are better than the Red Sox. 3. Pretend to be moving when the prediction blows up in your face. 4. Repeat.
  5. This post has zero substance. If Papelbon wouldn't require prospects and $14 million a year, I doubt you'd find many posters who wouldn't welcome him back. It's an issue of cost vs. need. We already have multiple relievers who could close and would cost us nothing.
  6. Have Uehara, Tazawa or Breslow been unreliable? The question is more like "would you rather spend $14 million and prsopects on a closer with name recognition or would you rather not spend anything and use the pitchers we already have who are performing better".
  7. According to fangraphs, Bailey, Uehara, Tazawa and Breslow have been worth 2.1 WAR and they're being paid a combined $11.49 million this year. Papelbon has been worth 0.4 WAR, and he's being paid $13 million. But yeah, Cherington's an idiot.
  8. Dempster's looked good the last four times out. With the exception of that three game stretch in which he was dealing with a groin issue, he's been our second best starter.
  9. The problem is that even if Papelbon was available, he still wouldn't make sense. We have three guys who could close for us and would not cost prospects.
  10. The Papelboners some people on this forum have are ridiculous. Not only is he not available, but Bailey has had two bad appearances. Mariano Rivera's had three bad appearances in a row, it happens. If Bailey continues to struggle, that's O.K. We aren't hurting for quality back end of the bullpen arms. Tazawa could close and we'd still have Uehara and Breslow as solid options as set up men.
  11. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9387827/ruben-amaro-jr-says-philadelphia-phillies-no-desire-trade-cliff-lee-cole-hamels-jonathan-papelbon So please stop discussing a trade for him. Thank you.
  12. Phillies said they have no desire to trade their pitchers. Give the Papelbon talk a rest. If Bailey doesn't right the ship, the Red Sox could use Uehara as the closer (2.17 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 12.7 K/9). He has experience closing before, not that it should matter. Look at Grilli. Good relievers make good closers. Or the Red Sox could use Tazawa (2.51 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 10.5 K/9). We have multiple options, it doesn't make any sense to give up prospects to get a closer.
  13. Why even bother reading bleacher report? You'd get more insightful commentary from an ADD riddled 12 year old on crack.
  14. The Bruins have done alright... I guess... http://cdn2.sbnation.com/imported_assets/1669257/11MVIGj.png
  15. You're so adorable God forbid you admit you were wrong. It's not like it happens all the time... oh, nevermind.
  16. I was thinking more along the lines of the least clutch hitter in baseball, since his publicist was getting drugs from Biogenesis. Miggy wouldn't surprise me either though. At this point, would anyone really be surprising?
  17. I wonder if A-Rod is the only slumping player Bosch visited in Detroit.
  18. I must have magical psychic powers then considering the report came out 15 days ago.
  19. CBS Sports is reporting that MLB has begun interviewing the players connected to BioGenesis. It sounds like they're wrapping up their cases and bans are likely soon.
  20. I love how Jackso challenged me when I said Ball would probably sign under slot.
  21. Rask hasn't allowed a goal on home ice in over 150 minutes. I predict the home team wins the next three games, which would allow the Bruins to celebrate on home ice.
  22. Did I also use an emote? *mind blown*
  23. What a coincidence, when the Yankees are up 6 runs and you log on, they happen to win. You must be a good luck charm!
  24. Not according to pitchf/x he wasn't. http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfxo.aspx?playerid=404&position=P&pitch=FA I watched about three innings, and according to the gun, he was wasn't throwing harder than 92 mph. Looks like he may have gotten it up to 94 later in the game, but pitchf/x doesn't have him throwing 95 mph.
