  1. We're not talking about most players though, we're talking about Mark Melancon. And I don't think one bad year with the Red Sox is enough to speculate that he might have anxiety issues. He's setting up and closing for the first place Pirates.
  2. The Yankees traded Mark Melancon for Lance Berkman, it's not like they dumped him. The Red Sox basically gave up on him after one year, but that doesn't mean he had anxiety issues. The fact that he's been an effective closer seems to suggest that he doesn't have anxiety issues more than the Red Sox trading him does.
  3. Toughest month of our scheduled and we've managed to get our largest division lead of the season. If not for our closer issues, we'd probably have a 5+ game lead.
  4. Seems rather speculative. He could have just had a bad year, it happens to relievers all the time. He pitched 20 innings for the Yankees and had a 4.87 ERA as a rookie. If someone's judging a pitcher based on 20 innings as a rookie, they probably don't understand baseball.
  5. What do you mean by low hanging fruit? There were a lot cheaper players available and a lot more expensive "sure-thing" players available. Cherington took the middle road and most of his moves have worked out well.
  6. That would certainly explain Cashman's irate reaction to A-Rod saying he was healthy. As I already pointed out, Granderson and Teixeira made almost identical tweets, and no one told them to STFU. A-Rod could essentially sit at home and collect his entire contract (although he would miss out on some lucrative bonuses). And the Yankees could be reimbursed for 80% of his contract (more than they'd get in a trade) they wouldn't have to worry about an impending suspension and they'd keep A-Rod away from the rest of the team.
  7. I know Yankees fans like to blame the ownership for Joba not being a good pitcher but he had a history of arm troubles before he joined the Yankees and he's averaging 94.8 mph on his fastball. If he can't pitch effectively with that velocity, he was never going to be a very good pitcher.
  8. And Cashman is wrong in this one. Granderson, Teixeira and all A-Rod tweeted about progress in coming back from injury. When A-Rod did it, Cashman called him out in the New York media. That's the worse possible way you could address an issue with a player.
  9. This reminds me of the Bobby Valentine/Kevin Youkilis feud. Fortunately, there were teams willing to take Youkilis off our hands.
  10. He got lucky. Fire the boob!
  11. Bradley's hitting .309/.407/.511 in AAA. Here's his home run last night. http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=28350257&sid=milb And here's a Bogaerts web gem from last night. http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=28337137&sid=milb
  12. But Granderson and Teixeira did the same thing... Curtis Granderson ‏@cgrand14 11 Apr Brace is finally off for non baseball activities. Another step closer! pic.twitter.com/ovS4XAlYjo Mark Teixeira ‏@teixeiramark25 17 Apr So happy that my rehab is going well. Started my swinging progression yesterday, slowly building up but it’s hard to be patient!
  13. Doesn't fit the narrative.
  14. Seems like the Yankees could really use a shot in the arm In all seriousness though, insulting your players through the media isn't at all productive, even if it is A-Rod. I'm not sure how much Cashman was involved in the A-Rod contract, but the Yankees had to know what they were getting themselves in to. He was a known steroids user who announced he was opting out of his contract in the middle of the World Series.
  15. He leads all AL rookies in f-WAR and b-WAR.
  16. It's hilarious because of how dysfunctional it is, and it's A-Rod. But this is Bobby Valentine level stuff.
  17. Wow, that's pretty unprofessional. I wonder if he's feeling some heat after the moves he made this offseason.
  18. This would be the perfect time for Bailey to pitch.
  19. Nava's missing catches and Bradley's hitting home runs in AAA.
  20. He's roughly a career .750 OPS hitter who has roughly a .750 OPS this month. I doubt he's the Nava we saw in April and May.
  21. Bogaerts hit his 4th HR in his last 12 games.
  22. I'm serious. He's a career .750 OPS hitter and a career .186/.308/.282 hitter in the second half. Bradley could probably have a .750 OPS, he runs the bases better and plays better defense. He also provides more versatility as an option in centerfield. We'd have Gomes and Carp as backup options at the corners.
  23. We should trade Nava before he turns back in to Nava. That would free up a roster spot for Bradley, who also gets on base but plays better defense.
