  1. I think every single poster here realizes that Cora (and every other manager in the game) has more baseball knowledge than any one of us. However, that does not mean that they do not make mistakes and those mistakes are fodder for criticism, despite their knowledge.
  2. I read somewhere that Wright is going to need offseason surgery. Although he pitched extremely well for us down the stretch I would not take the chance of having him on the roster instead of Swihart or anyone else. As the saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". This team should enter the WS with the same roster as the one that defeated the former champs.
  3. Hijacked thread alert!
  4. Perhaps some of the nervousness comes from the possibility that we might have lost to the Yankees. That I could not have lived with. Losing to the Astros would have been disappointing, for sure, but I could live with that. But losing to Jacko's team and having to live with that all winter is an entirely different matter.
  5. After the first game against the Astros the Sox beat the snot out of their opponent. Its an incredible copout to say that the Astros gave up; they simply lost to a much better team-just like the Yankees. We played one bad game and then beat the snot out of an inferior team, on their home field no less. This team is a juggernaut. Its no accident that they won 108 games and beat your team as well as the defending champs. They did that not because their opponents "gave up" (what a joke), but because we played much better baseball. Deal with it.
  6. Or any other team where Wade Miley starts
  7. A totally enjoyable season! This kind of dominance in the sport, where our team wins 108 games, sends the Yankees home ON THEIR OWN FIELD, then dispatches the WS champs and favorites to win another ring by winning three games in their park, is probably never going to happen again. Just four more wins to complete the journey.
  8. I think thats going to be the key to winning this game: scoring first. Playing from behind is losing baseball, especially against a team with very good pitching (though we have pretty much trashed their pitchers in most of the games).
  9. I am not saying that there was another better choice (maybe ERod?). All I am saying is that expecting Price to perform well (and I don't think that anyone here really expects that if they are being honest) would be foolish. At best we can hope that he is mediocre and that Verlander doesn't bring his A game tonight.
  10. In the playoffs you have to suck it up and perform. I don't care if he threw 200 pitches yesterday-all the pitchers are getting much more work in unfamiliar situations. I do not expect anything different from him than we have seen in the past; why expect something else? He has had what-10 postseason starts? And how many games has he won as a SP? Zero. Like every Red Sox fan I will be cheering for him to succeed tonight, but I am not expecting success. I am expecting more of the same. As the saying goes, "Those who cannot learn from history are condemned to repeat it"...or something like that. Perhaps the best strategy is for Cora to tell Price he is only going to pitch a maximum of three innings, so give it everything you have for those innings. He was good as a RP in the playoffs. Make this a bullpen game with Price first up.
  11. No, you don't (ever know). But if history teaches us anything about Price is that he is the consummate choke artist. If I were forced to bet on this game I would not bet that he would keep the game competitive. This is his chance for redemption. Lets see if he is up to the task.
  12. Four innings. Four runs. Price v Verlander is a mismatch. But his is baseball; anything can happen.
  13. Perhaps....but thats YOUR opinion. Under the current rules you cannot grab the leg of the IF and you have to try to maintain contact with the bag. Machado knows the rules but intentionally went out of his way to grab the leg of the guy trying to turn the DP. He is a punk.
  14. I heard that statistic during the game 2 broadcast. I guess it wasn't totally accurate. That said, its not a position the Sox wanted to get into I am sure.
  15. Its not like Price tanked and gave up 8 runs in the first inning. That said, I am holding him to a higher standard than, say, Velasquez. Everything in life is relative. Price knew his team was down 1-0 and that no team has ever won a 7 game series after losing the first two at home in MLB. Yet he didn't do the job out there. His team was depending on him to hold the other guys down and he failed-again. Its only because the bats woke up that saved his butt. Relative to the situation, IMO he sucked.
  16. Sale is out of the hospital and will rejoin the team before game 3: https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/chris-sale-update-red-sox-ace-released-from-hospital-set-to-rejoin-team-before-alcs-game-3/
  17. I am sure Cora is disappointed in Price's performance, again. But he would never admit it.
  18. I watch ALL of the games, in the playoffs at least. I saw Bogaerts get his feet set on that play in order, I presume, to get more on the throw. It would have been a tough play even had he not briefly hesitated. Correa is fast. I am not sure he would have been out even with a good throw by Bogaerts. Then Price surrendered a double to Maldonado, the #9 hitter. Great pitching, no? Springer dumped a lucky double after that, but had Price retired the #9 hitter-who had a solid hit off him-Springer would not have had the chance to drive in two runs there. Price also gave up a HR to Gonzalez as you recall. He walked four guys in less than five innings and gave up four ERs. Of his 80 pitches only 50 were strikes. Sorry. He sucked. And he sucked when his team really needed him to pitch well. Maybe he didn't suck as much as he has in the past during some playoff games, but nonetheless, he sucked.
  19. He certainly was not good at all. When you give up four ER in less than five innings and walk a man an inning to a good team, especially when your team really needs a dominant game, I think "sucked" is an accurate word to describe your performance. Sucking is nothing new for Price in the postseason, is it. I think I would use ERod and not Price to start game 6. At least ERod hasn't proven that he sucks in the playoffs. Price has.
  20. Chris Sale was hospitalized with what was described as a "stomach ailment": http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/24985260/chris-sale-boston-red-sox-hospitalized-stomach-illness
  21. Sure. I would keep him too. But I would never give him another start in the postseason.
  22. True, but Kimbrel is a concern. He has surrendered runs in at least three games in a row now. Not exactly a shut down closer any more. He is taking zeros off his new contract.
  23. No need to deal him. He was very good during the regular season. However he should NEVER start another playoff game for this team.
  24. Price gives it up again...no surprise here. He is a loser, a consummate choke artist.
  25. Whether or not the first pitch thrown by Verlander was going to be a strike to Betts or not I didn't like him swinging at it. We had him on the hook. He had just walked in a run. A little patience was in order.
