  1. In other words, RPs are a crapshoot. Speier used way too many words.
  2. Kimbrel should get only one year. Period. Or we let him play somewhere else.
  3. Don't forget Tom Brady. I think that classifying age ranges for being productive is an exercise in futility. Meaningless. It would be more accurate to simply say that for most athletes there are peak productive years followed by an age related decline. When an athlete peaks and declines is quite variable.
  4. Thats just Jacko's wishful thinking about a franchise whose butt the Yankees have been sniffing for three years.
  5. I am certainly not worried about Betts. And I am not really worried about the pen yet either because I think RPers are a crapshoot. You never know from year to year who will perform, generally, and who will not. Who would have thought that Brasier would have the year he had? Also, I don't think the pen is complete yet. DD still has a trick or two up his sleeve IMO.
  6. Jacko is definitely licking his chops waiting for the Yankees to finally finish ahead of the Red Sox-just as he was last year at the beginning of the season when he gloated that the Yankees were odds on favorites to win the ALE. Maybe the Yankees will win.....but first they have to play the games. Just like last year, and I kinda like the way last year turned out.
  7. Is that the same Fangraphs that projected the Yankees to win the ALE last year?
  8. We don't, of course. I have written many times here that as fans we are not entitled to know the truth about the condition of the players, and I think that holds true for all teams (and for that matter, all people). That said, logic would dictate that given the financial implications for the player involved one could assume that it is likely that a full workup was done. We will probably never find out.
  9. All that is possible, but I think that if there was a significant suspicion that something was really wrong structurally it would border on malpractice not to at least recommend an arthrogram to him-and he would be a fool not to do it. Its really not that painful, having had it done myself. The most painful part is the injection of the lidocaine into the joint space. I have had it done before, so I know-my shoulder is toast. I just cannot imagine a scenario where Sale was told that there is a suspicion that he has something seriously wrong with his shoulder that could affect his career and he declines the proper study to delineate and define the problem, if there is one.
  10. First of all, its not the same thing: Sale has no evidence of structural damage; Pineda did. Second, one would think that the study was done properly, given the stakes, and that contrast was used. And finally, Sale wasn't throwing 90 at the end of the year-he was hitting 95. But by all means keep trying to dredge up worry here. Just be prepared for me to correct you if you mis-state things.
  11. Three pages. Minimum.
  12. I have written many times here that it would be a miracle if Pedroia contributes in a meaningful way to any future Sox team. The kind of injury he had and the subsequent surgeries indicate that he will soon develop arthritis in the joint if he hasn't already. He might be able to play some, but eventually the pathology in his knee will rule. Sad ending for a great player.
  13. Horrible news. That will make the Mariners instant World Series favorites.
  14. For his career he has proven himself to be a mediocre pitcher. That said, maybe he has turned the corner.
  15. Yes, that is Jacko's dream. Unfortunately, for him, this season was his worst nightmare, what with the Sox finishing ahead of the preseason favorite Yankees and ended their season on their home field. I would not trade this season for any other. No Red Sox fan should believe that we are going to play in the WS every year. Its doesn't work that way. For my part, fielding a competitive team and getting into the playoffs for the next few years would be enough.
  16. Henry won't stay under the cap this year. There is too much talent still on this team not to make another run at a ring.
  17. The 04 team managed to get down 0-3 vs the Yankees. This team won more games and, in truth, the outcome of all of the playoff series was never in doubt. They were more dominant than the 04 team, by far. I think the 04 team was more fun to watch-coming back from three games down v the Yankees.....hard to beat that.
  18. Smith should go because he is an idiot. As they say, you can't cure stupid.
  19. Pedroia is toast. I don't know why so many people here are thinking he will contribute in a substantial way to the team next year. He might be able to play occasionally, but his knee is shot. IMO he should retire so he can delay the need for joint replacement surgery.
  20. I also picked Price and was a bit surprised that Pearce won it. But he (Pearce), along with a bunch of other guys, had a great WS.
  21. We were the better team all year. I think to an extent we went into cruise control in September but when October began the guys again played to their abilities. And its not like the Sox were completely healthy either: Sale is clearly not Sale; Nunez is hurt. And against the Dodgers JD banged up his ankle. Lets not blame injuries to the Astros for their loss-they just lost to a great team that got hot at the right time.
  22. As are the Bruins...nonstop action pretty much.
  23. Roberts never had a chance. He didn't have the players to compete with the Red Sox.
  24. Gracious of you. *******.
  25. I had them in five, and I also picked the game they would lose...when I get done patting myself on the back let me say this one word: DOMINATION! From start to finish this is the most dominant Sox team in history. They started out winning 17 of their first 19 games. Never had a losing streak during the year of longer than three games. Won 108 games, more than any other Red Sox team in history. They dispatched the Yankees in four games, winning on their home field after the Yankees won 100 games. They beat the champs in five games after they won 103 games, again on their home field. And of course they won a ring beating a good but overmatched Dodgers team-in five, on their home field. This scenario is likely never going to happen again in our lifetimes. Enjoy it!
