  1. The only way the Sox would be able to move Lackey is if shows he can pitch. If he shows that he can pitch effectively he would probably be serviceable at the back end of the rotation. Bay is done. We need an OF that can hit for some power and is a decent enough fielder that he can play the monster at home.
  2. Our best starting pitcher for a manager . . . no way! BC and the FO would quickly lose the masses and there would be riots in the streets. We need a manager who would get the respect of his players, and is not the top story in too many news articles on the Sox.
  3. Also the $pankees never lose homegrown players that they want to keep. They just throw more $$$$$$ at them and they sign. I can't even think of a $pankee homegrown all-star that left as a free agent. CAN ANYONE THINK OF ANYONE? Now look at the Rays. They can't afford to sign most of their homegrown all-stars because they end up becoming to expensive. I read somewhere that Price might be shopped around because he has reached the point where he makes to much.
  4. I can see Varitek working with pitchers in the spring (pitching coach? or special instructor?). If the Sox and Varitek had eyes on him managing he would be doing that next season somewhere in the minors. Not to many successful managers that didn't spend time managing in the minors.
  5. If you can guarentee that Pena will hit 30 then maybe a one year contract at a reasonable price is an option, but he only has 18 this year and doesn't have a Fenway swing as a lefty. The way he strikes out the fans would get on him quickly. A strikeout is such a unproductive out.
  6. The $pankees never seem to pay for their mistakes. That is why the Dodger trade is a blessing for us. Just think of 2013 with those dollars still on the Sox payroll. We would probably be having the same conversion next year at this time as we are now.
  7. Kalish is not fully recovered from his injuries and that is why he is not playing. The way he plays the game is why he got hurt in the first place. If he is healthy then he competes for a job next year. I think there is going to be a lot of competition for jobs in the spring.
  8. The point that I think some are trying to make is that the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ that the $pankees have allows them to make mistakes with contracts (like AROD's who I think will start collecting social security when his contract is up) and not have to pay long term for them. Also look at some of the problems they had this season. Gardiner hurt, no problem we will get Ichiro. Rivera gets hurt, no problem we paid $12 mil for an insurance policy (Soriano). Then there are those that sign one year deals with the $panks knowing that if they have a good season they have the possibility of getting big $$$$$. All other teams can not make mistakes or they have seasons like the Sox 2012 season.
  9. If pitching is what we have been saying is what is the most wrong with this team then if Felix is offered up you have to get him. This would be like when the Sox got Pedro. This is a NUMBER 1 starter that is still young. You put him in front of Buchholtz and Lester in a rotation and I think you go a long way in fixing your pitching. Think like this: if you were starting to build a team and could pick any player in baseball he one of the players at the top of your list. WITH THAT SAID HE HAS SAID HE DOESN'T WANT TO PLAY IN THE BIG MARKETS AND THE M'S ARE NOT TRADING HIM, BUT IT IS ALL RIGHT TO DREAM.
  10. Pena is solid with the glove, but isn't consistant with the stick. He strikes out a lot and I don't know if you can live with his production as the starting 1B. I don't think his swing fits Fenway. The Nats LaRoche is interesting. He put up some productive numbers this season.
  11. If the Sox go with the youth movement Iggy will be the SS some time next season before June. If they are going for a quick rebuild with short cost effective contracts then he may spend more time at AAA unless he starts producing with the bat.
  12. I said I know that the $pankees only a perecentage of Ichiro and Lowes contracts, but that is still 3 or 4 million for two months. The argument that money doesn't let the $panks make the playoffs every year can not be made. What other team can invest a sh_t load of money on a contract like ARods and not be effected for years other then the $panks.
  13. If you have Iggy and Peddy up the middle that is pretty solid defensely. If they pick up some bats for the outfield they could live with a no hit SS. Remember Omar Vizquel when he first came up he struggled with the bat. He did become a better hitter later in his career, but the glove was always there. It would be great if that is what happens with Iggy.
  14. The $pankees starting infield (Tex, Cano, Jeter and ARod) make more money this year then the following teams: Reds, Mariners, O's, Nats, Guardians, Rockies, Jays, DBacks, Rays, Pirates, Royals, Astros, A's and Padres. They picked up big contracts (I know they only have to pay a percentage, but what other teams could afford them) in Ichiro 18 mil and Lowe $15 mil. They paid a setup guy (Soriano) 12 mil. Don't tell me they don't throw money at the problems. If they ever win a championship and don't have the highest payroll I will be the first to admit money doesn't matter.
  15. Buchholtz has been pitching effectively lately. Should keep the Sox in the game. He pitched a gem against Price and the Rays in his last start, but the bullpen blew up.
  16. Bailey is probably the only one who comes back. Aceves and his attitude have warn out their welcome in Boston. He has been terrible since he sat those few games. He is pitching like sh__ the last few weeks. An Melancon has proven to me that he can not pitch under the pressure of Boston.
  17. Remember what Pedroia did early on. Lavarnway has a track record of hitting so I have hope. Iglesias I am a little concerned about. He is never going to be a .300 hitter, but what can we live with if he plays the special D. .230 - .250 range?
  18. It just seems like a lot of good minor league talent that came up in the Sox system are now solid major league players in other teams uniforms. If the team is going to be rebuilding the next couple of years I prefer losing with the youth.
  19. I agree that the team that this group was handed was not a finished product yet. If you look at some of the pieces that Theo added it put them over the top. With a little luck they could have won back to back titles in 2003 and 2004. Just think if both the Sox and the Cubs had reached the WS in 2003. That would have been something.
  20. The only time there are a lot of baseball fans at games in the Florida market is during spring training. An those are fans of the 28 other teams. Its a shame because the Marlins have won two championships in their short existence and the Rays have had good teams the last few years. If they can draw under those circumstances then they never will.
  21. A's bat in the top of the 10th. Go who ever is playing the $panks.
  22. Both Reddick and Moss are having great seasons. Its nice to see the Sox farm system producing solid major league players. Its just too bad they aren't for the Sox.
  23. Moss just went big fly (crushed it) off Soriano for the A's to tie it at 1-1. Another ex-Sox that is having a good season.
  24. A healthy Middlebrooks in 2013 is the Sox starting 3B and will be needed to be a big power guy.
  25. Has anyone see that thing that Reddick has on his chin? He looks like he could fit into the Civil War era. He is having one helluva season though.
