  1. Tampa's starters are young and locked in right now. That is what makes them the Sox biggest threat the rest of the way. To begin with they could force the Sox into that one game playoff which is a crap shot. That is why the Sox still need to do something with the pitching, at the same time don't blow up the farm system.
  2. Baseball GODs didn't want the Sox to win Monday. Any Sox fan who watched the 8th and 9th has to still be wondering what the F#@% just happened.
  3. Amen on this one. As soon as the Phillies mention Bogaerts you got to say good bye.
  4. Rosenthal loses my respect by comparing this potential trade with the Beckett-Ramirez trade. Lee is going to be 35 and Beckett was 25. If the Sox make a trade for Lee it shouldn't include Bogaerts or Owens.
  5. Other then Saturday night (Drew) we haven't gotten much production from the left side of the infield. How long do the Sox wait before Bogaerts gets a shot? The O's did it last year with their kid 3B.
  6. Three quality starts in a row for Lester. That is good news for the Sox. As far as tomorrow goes the Sox need to stay patient with Price and drive the pitch count up. The problem on Wednesday was he threw so many strikes he was always ahead in the counts. If he does that again then it will be really hard to beat him.
  7. White Sox will try to get as many teams as possible interested in Peavy to jack up the price. Every report you read you see another team in the hunt.
  8. I think bad contracts still starts with A-Rod. It will become even worse when MLB suspends the rest of the cheats in the next 7 to 10 days. The New York media is already circling like voltures.
  9. I think Boras is going to want a larger contract for Ellsbury then what Pedroia got. The Sox I think aren't going to offer him more so he will be playing else where next season, unless Ellsbury really wants to stay and cans Boras as his agent (Like Cano did) and doesn't try breaking the bank. I don't think that happens even though a Bradley - Ellsbury - Victorino outfield would be outstanding defensively.
  10. You got this one right. The A's are being proactive knowing that they will lose their best starter in the next week. There is a reason that Colon at 40 something is pitching better then he did five years ago. With that said the Sox still need pitching. I think the only untouchables from the prospects are Bogaerts, Bradley and Owens. Even though he is still a few years away he is dominating at the level he is at and is probably the only potential ace they have in the minors. If Lee is a target they do have pieces to get it done. An what they have to give up depends on how much money they will eat.
  11. I'm okay with moving Middlebrooks as part of a deal to get Peavy. Both Bogaerts at AAA and Cecchini at AA look like better long term solutions at 3B for the Sox.
  12. That's why the Cards are always in contention for the playoffs. Their FO makes the tough decisions, and most of the time they are the correct ones. They were smart enough too know that what Pujols was looking for in years and $$$$ was not a good investment and moved on. Not that Ellsbury is in the class of Pujols, but what Borus isn't going to ask for in years and $$$$ is not going to be a good investment for the Sox. That's why as much as I like what Ellsbury gives to the team, he is probably going to move on. The Sox will probably offer him 5 years at $15 to $17 million a year, and Borus is looking for more.
  13. The Sox not only have not hit good pitching of late, they can't even score off them. So even when they do get good pitching themselves they still are losing.
  14. Without Beckett and Lowell in 2007 the Sox aren't champions. So the Sox had to deal Ramirez to make that happen.
  15. Yaz is the reason I am a Sox fan. Its a great idea!
  16. Still need pitching. Whether its a starter (Peavy) and then move Workman to the bullpen, or a reliever and keep Workman in the rotation until Buchholtz comes back. If Bochholtz doesn't come back the Sox won't make the playoffs anyway. The way the Sox have failed to hit good pitching starting with the A's series before the break it has to concern you. If the Sox do make the playoffs are they quickly going to be eliminated because of the poor success against good pitching. With that said I don't want the FO to give away too many top prospects just to get to the playoffs.
  17. Pedroia is the face of the franchise and the FO did the right thing by allowing him to finish his career in Boston if he elects to. The value of the contract works for the Sox as well.
  18. I think Workman is key to what the Sox do before the trading deadline. He has one more start before the deadline and if he has another solid start then the Sox go out and get bullpen help with the thought of keeping him in the rotation until Buchholtz comes back. If he has a bad outing against the O's then the Sox go after a starter (Peavy maybe), and maybe a lesser piece for the pen with the thought of moving Workman to the pen. Either way the Sox will pick up another pitcher. It would be nice if some of their young pitchers stepped up.
  19. With the value of what is left on his contract at worst he could be a solid middle of the rotation pitcher. If for some reason the Sox aren't in contention next season you can then listen to offers for him. After getting little value out of at the beginning of the contract it is great to have some value now.
  20. WMB continues to struggle in AAA. I do not think we will see him back in Boston in 2013. With the potential log jam on the left side of the infield he could become an off season trading chip.
  21. Cecchini has a sweet swing, but where do the Sox play him?
  22. I think the next week and a half will go along way in determining how the Sox finish in 2013. They play the Rays and O's and the trading deadline will have come and gone. I think you can answer the question on how the Sox will finish on August 1.
  23. When will we see Bogaerts in Boston? September? April 2014? June 2014?
  24. Who would of thought that the Sox problem this past off season of having two closers and not knowing who should be the closer, would turn into a problem to having your set up man become your closer. I for one am concerned about over using Uehara and him burning out before the end of the season. Remember in the beginning of the season there was the talk of not using him on back to back days. I also have not been impressed with Thornton in his first couple of outings. He has allowed runners on base when he enters to score that are charged to the pitcher he replaced. The Sox need another arm for their pen.
  25. If the Sox don't correct their starting pitching problems both the Rays and the Orioles will pass them and they will not make the playoffs. Without a more effective Lester and a healthy Buchholtz they will not make the playoffs. Pushing Lester back is concerning because you won't know what that is all about until you see him pitch again. Because they are involved in discussions with other teams about starting pitching they aren't going to disclose injuries until they have to. If Tuesday comes and Lester doesn't pitch then we have a major problem not only with the current rotation, but also in making a trade for a starter as teams will know the Sox are desperate.
