  1. Its is the hardest thing to do in sports: hit a baseball. Bradley will have to find a hitting stroke quickly because the more reps Betts gets in CF the better he will become. Betts might not ever be as good as JBJ in CF, but if he can hit and hold his own in CF he will move ahead of JBJ if he already hasn't on the depth chart. Don't forget the Sox are also making a run at Castillo. Sad to say, but JBJ's time may have already passed.
  2. If Lester wins Cy Young and leads A's to WS his value will continue to rise, and his chance of returning to Boston will become less.
  3. I agree with a lot of this, but some of those young arms will be used to bring back some help in the lineup.
  4. Sox are probably going to use them as trading chips. JBJ's D and WMB power potential give each some value. Hopefully, they still have some value. I'm seeing both just lost at the plate. The Sox need production from 3B and CF and these two have not proven they can play in Boston.
  5. De La Rosa is starting to be more consistent. Of the young guys he has been the best so far. If he finishes the year like this I think he would be in the rotation. Haven't seen enough of Kelly yet. The rest of the young guys have not been as consistent.
  6. Lester has young kids and all they have known as home is Boston. I think that will have some effect on his decision. If it is just about the $$$$$$ then he will be in New York next season. The Sox make a reasonable offer he might take it. If they jack around again he will be playing for the $pankees.
  7. Papi is top five most clutch playoff hitters of all time. The Sox have three championships in the last ten years and he is the only member to be on all three. His in season stats when all is said and done will be comparable to other HOFs. Might not be first ballot, but yes he will get in.
  8. I think Plan A is to make a run at Lester. They have an amount and years that will be below what the max is, but if it is still enough I can see Lester taking a little less to come back to Boston. If it isn't enough they will move on to Plan B. A lot of buzz about the Phillies so that means Hammels.
  9. JBJ needs to at least hit.240-.250 range to keep him in CF full time. It would be such a waste of his great D-Fence to have him as a 4th OF. The guy can flat out go get it. The Sox need to have someone sit with and look at film, or the pitchers are going to continue abusing him. It doesn't look like he can make adjustments on his own. It seems like he is always 0-2. WMB also looks lost. He is swinging at everything. He looks over matched right now. XB is going through the rookie up and downs. He can look good on one swing and terrible the next. When he can lay off those pitches he will start abusing the pitchers. CF and 3B are far from being solved for 2015.
  10. He will be another reason why the FO doesn't want to give long term contracts to pitchers north of 30. If he is healthy I don't get it. He works every fifth day and has four days to figure out what he needs to do to be better in his next start. He should be viewing tape of his starts the beginning of 2013 to try to figure out what he is not doing.
  11. Cecchini was struggling in AAA this year. Hopefully, he corrects the problems and starts to hit. I liked his swing and he looked like he knew what he was doing in the box. So he will probably start 2015 at AAA. Holt can hit leadoff so that is a plus for him.
  12. BC has said it several times in different interviews that starting pitching will be number 1 on his things to do this winter.
  13. It hurt watching him pitch and blow two three run leads. The Sox could be looking at what happened to Bard happen to Buchholz. Bard went from being one of the best set up guys to not being able to get minor league hitters out. An Buchholz is heading in that same direction. If his problem is above the shoulders then they need to get some help for him. We need the beginning of 2013 Buccholz back.
  14. I think a hitters batting average with runners in scoring position is a key statistic. Especially now with homeruns down it is important to have guys that can get those runners home. It kills me when there is a runner on third and less then two outs and the hitter can't get him home. There are guys that always find away to get that run home.
  15. If the Sox finish last this year (Most likely) then the FO will have used their mulligan. They have said over and over again they are building the 2015 to contend. That means rebuilding the pitching staff.
  16. Buchholz is looking like he could be another Bard. If he isn't hurt then the Sox have a real problem with him. It hurt watching him pitch last night.
  17. If WMB tanks the last couple of months I could see Holt as the every day third basemen and lead off hitter in 2015. The guy plays the game like Pedey, the right way.
  18. Sox need a shut down lefty for 2015 so I can see Miller being brought back. The thing with him is that he is starting to have great success against righties so he could be your setup guy for Uehara next year and then slide into the closer role in the future.
  19. BC has said it is the number one priority this winter. This weekend proves that starting pitching is key to success. The two games that they lost is because of the starting pitching.
  20. Not for anything, but if Lester and Lackey pitched this weekend the Sox probably sweep the $panks. Of coarse they both had wins in their first wins with their new teams. Ranaudo pitched good enough to get to the Sox pen, and both Webster and Buchholz blew three run leads. Buchhulz did it twice.
  21. On the flip side, if some of them perform well then their value will go up and they become more valuable trading chips. Its a fine line. It hurt watching Webster pitch the other day. The inning the $panks scored four and knocked him out of the game they didn't have one solid hit. Five walks and a couple of blops and that was that. Painful to watch.
  22. He has been up and down over the last few seasons so its not just this season. The lefties they got at the trade deadline make him the Cubs' problem now.
  23. Let them get the experience now in 2014 so in spring of 2015 they can hit the ground running.
  24. What? What? If a guy is hitting .330 with no runner on base, and .100 with runners in scoring position then you have a problem. The last time I looked in baseball you win if you score runs. Someone needs to drive them in - RBIs!
  25. Is it me or is it funny that the $pankees are starting to collect former Sox that no longer fit in their plans. Last night the SP - 2B - CF - RP were all former Sox. As much as we missed Ellsbury this year he is still not worth 21 million per. This also shows how their minor league system is not working right now. Do you think they wished that they could have had Betts at 2B instead of Drew last night.
