  1. Sox need a shut down lefty for 2015 so I can see Miller being brought back. The thing with him is that he is starting to have great success against righties so he could be your setup guy for Uehara next year and then slide into the closer role in the future.
  2. BC has said it is the number one priority this winter. This weekend proves that starting pitching is key to success. The two games that they lost is because of the starting pitching.
  3. Not for anything, but if Lester and Lackey pitched this weekend the Sox probably sweep the $panks. Of coarse they both had wins in their first wins with their new teams. Ranaudo pitched good enough to get to the Sox pen, and both Webster and Buchholz blew three run leads. Buchhulz did it twice.
  4. On the flip side, if some of them perform well then their value will go up and they become more valuable trading chips. Its a fine line. It hurt watching Webster pitch the other day. The inning the $panks scored four and knocked him out of the game they didn't have one solid hit. Five walks and a couple of blops and that was that. Painful to watch.
  5. He has been up and down over the last few seasons so its not just this season. The lefties they got at the trade deadline make him the Cubs' problem now.
  6. Let them get the experience now in 2014 so in spring of 2015 they can hit the ground running.
  7. What? What? If a guy is hitting .330 with no runner on base, and .100 with runners in scoring position then you have a problem. The last time I looked in baseball you win if you score runs. Someone needs to drive them in - RBIs!
  8. Is it me or is it funny that the $pankees are starting to collect former Sox that no longer fit in their plans. Last night the SP - 2B - CF - RP were all former Sox. As much as we missed Ellsbury this year he is still not worth 21 million per. This also shows how their minor league system is not working right now. Do you think they wished that they could have had Betts at 2B instead of Drew last night.
  9. Doesn't mean he will be happy about it.
  10. 1. Lester or trade for a young #1 (The Sox have the chips) 2. Sign Shields (He has had success in AL East and would replace what Lackey did) 3. Buchholz (Hopefully they get him back to where he is was early 2013) 4. An what ever two young pitchers emerge 5. Save $$$$ if you need to go get someone during the 2015 season
  11. I agree. Craig also had the GM and manager in a disagreement whether he or their star rookie Taveras should be playing. I think the GM won the argument. I believe Craig will return to what he was 2010-2013. I think some are going to be surprised with Kelly. Remember the Cards started him in one the WS games last year. An he didn't do too bad. I think we should wait and see on him.
  12. I think BCs number one task this winter is to find a new ace. Whether that is bringing Lester back, or trading for someone like Sale (or a young #1), it needs to get done. You sign another FA starter, hope Buchholtz finds himself, and then from the bunch of young arms you would expect two to be ready. You save some $$$$$ if you have to go for another starter during the 2015 season.
  13. He is mad the $pankees didn't get him. The $panks still don't have any power in the OF. As far as a grade for BC you have to wait until spring training. Thursday was step 1. August and September are step 2. To inventory what they have. Step 3 is to rebuild the pitching staff. As far as Craig goes, if he returns to form the Sox won this deal. Kelly started one of the WS games for the Cards last year. I think he is being under valued.
  14. Doubrount was no longer in the Sox plans for the rotation, when he bitched you get whatever you can for him.
  15. Miller is one of the top bullpen lefties in all of baseball. It would be great if they can get him back for 2015. The O's needed it because their starting pitching is not even close to the A's and Tigers. They have to shorten the game with a great bullpen.
  16. Puts Bogaerts back at SS for the rest of the season. The Drew signing was a panic move that should have never happened. Johnson is hurt now and shouldn't figure into the 2015 plans.
  17. Buchholtz, two of those young arms, and two FA (Hopefully one of them is Lester). If the Sox have more then two young arms in April for their starting staff then the 2015 Sox will not in the playoff picture.
  18. I'm thinking today was the first step in the rebuild for 2015. They can take an inventory of their young arms the remaining part of 2014. They can see how Cespedes and Craig adjust to Fenway. By the end of the season they will know what they have and what they need. I don't know how some of you are posting starting lineups and staffs for 2015. It is way to early to be doing that. If BC goes into the spring with rosters like that he should be fired. The Sox have cleared a lot of $$$$$$ to be used this winter.
  19. Where do the Sox play Craig?
  20. BC still has until spring training 2015 to finish what he started today. If he can't rebuild the pitching staff then what he did today is worth nothing. Buchholtz is the only remaining starter from the beginning of the year. An Buchholtz is a shell of himself.
  21. If the above happens then the Sox win this trade. Resign Lester and get Cespedes, that would be a win for Sox. Also, I have also seen that the Marlins were big on Cespedes and he could become a piece that helps gets Stanton. The package the Sox must come up with looks a lot better if the Marlins can get a power bat back.
  22. Lowell is a good comparison to Craig. A healthy Craig in Fenway might be a plus. The FO might have not know how Lackey might react to pitching for pennies next year and potentially without Lester here. Maybe he told them he wanted to be moved. Kelly will probably be a bullpen arm in 2015.
  23. I can't see the Sox go past 5 years / 25 mil per when Lester goes the route of FA. That might even be to high. I don't think it looks good for him coming back. I hope I'm wrong because aces are hard to come by. An ace who has had success in Boston even harder to come by.
  24. The Sox have lost a ton of one run games. I think Salty's handling of the pitchers was missed a lot early on. Ellsbury's speed was missed.
  25. How close do the Sox come to their record they had in 2012? The last place finish will force the FO to make changes to be more competitive in 2015.
