  1. Saw the Sea Dogs in Trenton on 7-1. Marrero looked good. Swihart looks like he knows what he is doing at the plate. Owens didn't have his best stuff, but only gave up a pair of runs. Coyle looks like a baseball player as well. Short, plays 2B, and handles the bat pretty good. Sound like anyone? He's got a spark too - as he was tossed for arguing balls and strikes.
  2. I saw Owens pitch on Tuesday (7-1) in Trenton. He didn't have his best stuff, but still only allowed two runs over 6 innings. I think he remains in AA this year and will start next year at AAA.
  3. He has looked pretty good in the OF. Moving forward Holt should be in the 2015 plans for the Sox. He would be a great super utility guy!
  4. WMB is playing at AAA so he is not too far away. What do the Sox do when he is ready?
  5. Went to Sea Dogs game in Trenton the other night and Marrero looked really good. Looks really good with the glove, and hit the ball pretty good as well. First AB he hit a ball to dead center that the CF made a nice catch at the wall.
  6. If moving Peavy and/or Doubrount means that rotation spots open up for the young arms down on the farm then I'm on board with that.
  7. Getting swept by the Cubs shows that this team is not playing baseball in October. Its a shame because this is a very winnable AL East. Hopefully, the Sox play over the next few weeks will make it easier for the FO to determine whether they are buyers or sellers.
  8. If the $pankees don't make the playoffs again this year they will open the vault to buy more players at top $$$$$$$. If the Sox are worried about the length of the contract with Lester then make it 4 years at bigger $$$$$ per. Lester is big and durable and has to have 4 solid season left. Tell me it wouldn't kill everyone to see him in a $pankee uniform replacing CC in the rotation.
  9. I was referring to the 86 years before 2004. There was a lot of suffering for Sox fans. There where many born - lived - and died with out seeing a championship. Based on what the Sox have done in 2014 I take the 2013 as a gift from the baseball gods. Newer, or younger Sox fans have no clue about the suffering prior to 2004.
  10. I guess this is what happens when you have back to back days off during a baseball season.
  11. Pitchers have made the adjustment to him and he needs to make his adjustment. When he first came up he walked a lot. That isn't the case anymore. He needs to be more patient and take the walk if that is what the pitcher is giving him. I would be worried if he hadn't hit at all since he has been up to the show. That is not the case. Also, the hitting coach has been out with health issues and that has to have some effect on a young hitter trying to find himself.
  12. The further we get into the 2014 season the more you have to appreciate 2013. The Sox could sandwich a championship between last place finishes. Has that ever happened before?
  13. Swihart is the catcher for the future, but if the Sox start bringing up youth then Vasquez gets a look here in 2014.
  14. Looks like Nava is starting to hit the ball again. Could be another potential trading chip if the Sox completely fall out of it.
  15. I would let this season play out before making any long term decisions on Lackey. I think you take care of Lester first to archer your staff and then start looking at the rest of the staff. If the Sox fall out of it the kids will get a lot of opportunities during the second half so you will get a better idea of what they have.
  16. Most of these guys coming out of Cuba have been hits. Considering the lack of OFs in the system it wouldn't be wrong to take a long look at this guy.
  17. Yes, the 2013 Championship makes this season's losing easier to swallow. An you are also right that if the Sox lose 90 games and finish out of the playoffs the feelings of 2012 will start to return. The longer this season goes on it has become obvious that the 2013 Championship is one that the baseball gods gave us as payback for all of the years of suffering.
  18. Buchholtz is a big question going forward. Do you keep him and hope he stays healthy and returns to the beginning of 2013 season form, or do you trade him and hope he doesn't. When on his stuff is nasty, but he is not getting any younger and if you think the young kids are the answer maybe you pull the trigger on the deal. This is a tough call.
  19. This also opens up spots for the young arms a.k.a Workman, Dela Rosa, Ranaudo and Webster. If the Sox are what we have seen so far this year I rather see the kids pitching.
  20. The Drew signing has been a major blunder. He has become another bat in the lineup that hasn't hit, and he sits against LP. Also since his return Bogaerts has struggled big time. X defense after a slow start was getting better before the no need signing.
  21. I think the Phillies took a flyer on him?
  22. Everything that could go right last year did, and everything that could go wrong this year has. The big difference between 2012 and this year is that the Sox have a lot of good young players in the high minors that are knocking on the door. If their fortunes don't change in the next few weeks I think we see the Sox being big sellers before the deadline and a lot of the young guys in the second half. Even though they are losing you don't have the same feeling as 2012. In 2012 there was no hope until the Punto trade. This year you look at the young pitching at AA, AAA and in Boston and there is hope. It does hurt to see a Red Sox team struggle to score runs. Then again scoring is down all over the league.
  23. In order to get more then a bag of balls they have to get Peavy and Doubront pitching better. I think with so many teams still in the chase because of the extra wild card the closer we get to the deadline the more desperate teams get for SP. Peavy you can probably get a NL team to take him. Doubrount I think has more value because he is younger and a lefty. Need to get both pitching better to get any value though.
  24. Betts in CF. Hopefully, he makes the transition to the OF without effecting his hitting.
  25. Because of the shortage of power hitters WMB continues keep the Sox interest even though this guy can't stay on the field. It would be nice to see this guy succeed, but I don't know if it is in the cards.
