  1. So Bell what i'm reading here makes me wonder why the Red Sox wouldn't have kept him. Once again it is a confusing move for a team that desperately needs any kind quality pitching to make.
  2. You and I both know that that was never going to happen and rightfully so. Now if he had stayed with us and pitched just decently, pretty sure they would have come up with something for him but my chirping about Chris Sale really has had nothing to do with signing him to anything more than he would have earned throughout the course of this contract. I do think that thee must be some reason that I'm sure I don't know why the Braves were willing to take a chance with him. We get a well regarded prospect who may or may not develop into a long term fix in our infield. Unfortunately not defensively but likely with the bat. Atlanta signs this broken down lefty to a many million dollar 2 year contract with a club option for a third. What am I missing here? Just doesn't seem to add up does it? Understand I'm not making any speculation about the deal itself. Maybe it will turn out to be a good one for us. It I think is just a confusing picture.
  3. Can you believe that . The Braves of all teams paying that much for that broken down left hander Chris Frail as he has been so affectionately referred to here on occasion. Hey on the bright side I guess it's good to know that there is at least one other franchise as screwed up as ours. I hope he has a Cy Young season.
  4. I agree. Top 3 in my book as well. I also liked the extension. Quite a few pitchers have come back from TJ surgery and have produced at an outstanding level. He certainly is as tough and gritty as the best of them. Clearly worth the risk. Hindsight beats us up on this one. We appear to have posters here who just knew ahead of time that he was going to never be what he once was. Good for them. It was worth the risk. Also, I wasn't prepared for JH to all of sudden be so budgetarily(if that is a word) conscious that an extension to Sale would ever be an issue to this franchise. Oh well - it's a done deal and I hope the trade works out for both parties.
  5. Kind of looks like I'm on the island again. I understand the trade and I get why people are upset actually over Sale's injury prone last few years but I appreciated watching him at his best I guess and won't criticize him in any way. He is one of the most intense and one of the best pitchers when healthy that I ever saw. We were a very lucky franchise to have him. Oh well, I'm old and loyal to a fault. I never gave up on him and I hope he bounces back well this year. To be honest, he was one of the only reasons that I even watched them at all last year - ever hopeful.
  6. Thanks for this. As a stand alone trade, it really doesn't make much sense to me. Even if Chris Sale performs at a mediocre level for him, trading him for a middle infield prospect who isn't a very good fielder just doesn't work for me.
  7. This is pretty much exactly how I feel!
  8. I'm proud of the fact that I am and will continue to be a fan of Chris Sales. I also think that the man can and will pitch effectively again. Two big ifs for me - can this kid field the position or will he add to an already pathetic defense. When I think of anybody playing one of the "up the middle" positions, I think defense first in a very big way. If one comes along who can hit too, it's a bonus. Secondly, what happens next? I'm not as confident as others here who think that unloading Sale's contract is going serve as a launching pad for better things to come. I will say that this move has the potential to be something that makes a little sense. That alone makes it a great deal more significant than any moves that have been made in quite some time.
  9. I understand what you are saying. If Grissom can field the position, and they pick up the pitching that we desperately need, I'll go along with it and buy in to the courage and decisiveness part of your statement. Now on the other hand if the moves are not made, it will be right back to suck city for me. Trading Sale for the sake of cutting payroll alone ain't going to make it for me. Gearing up and getting ready for next, next, next, next year just is lame. I don't have your faith.
  10. I don't remember who here have been the Yorke supporters but there have been a number of folks who have said that it was too early to give up on him. And honestly moon, I don't care who they are. heck - I like Yorke but if you are bringing in a 23 year old prospect to likely play the position he seemed destined for, I think that it says something about his future here or the lack there of. In general, I guess I just think that this organization seems screwed up and I wouldn't pay a penny to watch them as they are currently constructed. The only way to bring prices for products down is to not purchase them.
  11. I'll add that I am beginning to not recognize the ball club I have spent may entire adult life pulling for. From the way they have done business over the last few years to what they have actually accomplished. It makes 0 sense to me.
  12. Obviously it is pretty obvious how I continue to feel about Chris Sale. I think that it is probably just the loyal in me. It is very rare that you come across any athlete with his intense desire to win. good luck to him. I do not believe that this particular deal helps the club at all.
  13. As a stand alone move it's ******** for sure. All I've heard for two years now is wait until Yorke is ready. Looks to me as though he should be gone all of a sudden. It is possible that our defense up the middle just got worse. I will freely admit that I am a huge fan of Chris Sales. Yesterday and today. When healthy one of my top 3 or 4 to ever pitch in fenway. I will miss him.
  14. I'm one of those fans who suffered through the years but I am as disappointed as I have ever been right now. Most years, it felt anyway that there might be good reason to expect things to be better gong in to the next season. I don't feel that way now. Maybe it has to do with misleading media, the extreme total cost of going to a game to watch a second rate product, or maybe it is just my age. I really do hope that it is a little too early to tune out on next year's season.
  15. We have quite a number of friends who come to Florida during the winter months. It is very interesting discussing the differences that exist between the two countries administratively. Not to mention that all of them are in love with the game of hockey.
  16. Maine is a beautiful state but also very expensive to live in particularly when the darker colder seasons come. there is a lot to be said for being able to stay active when the skiing is done. As for me, the warmth, the length of the day, as well as the cost of living makes a big difference.
  17. Is the place to be
  18. Exactly! California and New York would lead the way when it comes to states that would be pretty tough to live in these days for me. Sadly it appears that Maine is becoming Massachusetts north.
  19. What did I miss? Did someone say that he might leave for the same or less money because he just doesn't want to be in boston?
  20. First of all I would think that it is highly unlikely that he would make a parallel move for less money but you never know. I have a hunch that if someone goes after him they will offer him at least what he is currently making and who knows what else. It is not simply about the money. Some professionals actually do want a working environment that they can feel successful being in. It is possible that the apparent change in the way the Red Sox are doing things these days just doesn't line up with the way he views things.
  21. If they don't make any very serious moves, they won't have to ever worry about firing Alex Cora. He'll be offered a contract from somebody else that financially he won't refuse. He'll simply walk away and go to a franchise that has a commitment to win.
  22. They do a pretty good job of keeping this type of stuff in house but you could see this one coming for sure. He sure wasn't Cora's kind of guy.
  23. I'm ok with that. I like to watch players that I know something about. I know more about the Dodgers these days than I do about the Sox.
  24. That is the silver lining. I will still be anxious to see the kid pitch though.
  25. Looking back at it, I kind of wish that they had considered going after other pitching options while everybody else was fussing about where the big money to Moto was coming from. The price of any pitching now might be more than JH wants to shell out. I'm hoping that they must have known what their competition for him was going to be and whether or not they were actually going to compete for him. Hind sight for me sucks some time.
