  1. I'm Scottish - Most of us don't care what you use as a mascot name. probably some sort of alcoholic beverage might serve us well though or maybe anything that offends the brits.
  2. It is always good to keep good baseball people in the game which Dombrowski is and always has been.
  3. I don't think that Boston is in possession of many more truly rabid baseball fans than most of our good quality baseball cities. There are likely many thousands of fans who simply would not attend games at Fenway if there were no true super stars competing. Winning is great and obviously appeals to us all but a bunch of successful no names in Boston I don't think will fill those seats. I will say though that at some point many stars were simply no name players. Just the way it is.
  4. Tuesday - I always answer with Tuesday. I'm right at least once a week.
  5. if ticket sales are a priority at all, i think that the same could be said for the Sox.
  6. hmm What day of the week going in to next season do you anticipate him pitching?
  7. Good move for the Phillies for sure.
  8. I would say that that is quite likely based simply upon what I have observed over the past year. Personally, I could not care less about Orlando Cabrera right now. i think that in general most people think that he wasn't that nice of a guy. Works for me. He helped us win a title. Other than that, he is simply a footnote in history for me. A piece of trivia.
  9. i did not just start the domestic abuse rumor. Doesn't make much difference now I guess though. i just need a little more Rick Burleson.
  10. I loved watching Aparicio play. One of the great all time infielders. he came to the Sox late in his career but he still could get it done. I also loved watching Rico play the position while he did. Him catching that last pop up in '67 is an image in my mind that I will never forget. My personal favorite Sox ss would be the "Rooster" of course!
  11. That is what the story was that I read about Cabrerra - domestic violence alleged. What I do not recall is him going after other player's wives. In the world of entertainment, one seems almost acceptable these days and one does not. Domestic violence of any kind is never ok. Cabrerra was a damn good shortstop but a good human being?- maybe not so much.
  12. I could be wrong here but I think that I remember that it wasn't so much him hitting on other people's wives as much as it was that he likely was hitting his own. Nomar's story was a little said but cabrera was a better shortstop.
  13. hmm - I know right . His stock value is likely to split and double many times over the years to come.
  14. That's why some buy good companies and hold them forever. They pay solid dividends over the long haul. Betts represents a very solid dividend payer.
  15. Houck has four pitches that he uses. if he becomes the player that he certainly hopes to be, it will be his slider I think that gets him there.
  16. and it is also a possibility that as the season progresses he moves right on up the food chain! he might be a little more talented than your average everyday #6 starting pitcher.
  17. My terminology seems to be bothering you. It's a personal thing at this point. I consider it juvenile to continually keep bringing up a contentious issue which is over. I don't bring up anything that has to do with Ben Cherington. I guess if I consider it juvenile to play a game that a kindergartner would play, it is my prerogative. I think that the bashing had its day. If you want to dig through past posts in search of anything said that you might consider juvenile, have at it. I'm not going to do it. There is no need to.
  18. I thought that I had read somewhere that he was being viewed as a late inning kind of guy. Small sample size for sure but he looked very good starting last fall. The work that he is currently putting in isn't done at this level by a lot of guys. he really wants to be out there for a long time. hey I'm fairly excited about Pivetta and Groome. If any one two or three of these guys pan out, we might be enjoyable to watch once again.
  19. Was hate too strong a word? How about if I simply said that the derogatory comments about the man and what he did just kept coming. Whether someone has been more derogatory in their comments I think is an opinion kind of decided by which side you tend to align with. Ben has been blasted on here for sure. Worse than DD? - not in my opinion. The point of this though in reality is that to still be bringing up Dave Dombrowski's name in a negative manner only has one purpose. it is doing no good. i'm not the one bringing it up. It is old news and only serves one purpose. I perfectly ok with my chain being rattled.
  20. I very much enjoyed the article I read yesterday about Tanner Houck and the work that he has been putting in this off season in Miami. His work is just as impressive as the Cy Young award winners that he is working out with. I think that he might be one of the special ones. If he isn't successful, it will not be due to a lack of effort on his part. His type of story tends to get me excited.
  21. Do you mean that I invented it? It is ok to deal with me directly if you areferring to me. You are right , most have moved on from this issue. Some have not, which prompts my responses. It's too bad but I'm not going away. I continue to be a fan of the current GM because that's what I am a fan. I'm hoping that bloom will give me something to get excited about again.
  22. i'll of course admit that I did not nor do i now for that matter think that Ben Cherington was much of a GM but I don't think that these petty little jabs made of late have much to do with anything that I might have said. Past GMs don't really interest me as much as they seem to with respect to the "I hate (and forever will) Dave Dombrowski" crowd. Actually, it really isn't much of crowd.
  23. Now come on. i'm speaking solely for myself here. I'm not taking any sides. That being said, I am not the one who feels as though they just can't help themselves from more nonsense spew with respect to DD. i'm pretty sure that as long as they feel the urge to continue flapping away about him, i'll continue to throw my two cents worth right back.
  24. It's their juvenile jabs that are never ending that do bother me.lol They get under my skin - not really.
