  1. Dick Williams likely won't be coming through that door anytime soon.
  2. 1967!!! Bob gibson
  3. I watched Feebles in Portland. Leave him where he is. I'm glad that it appears that Bloom gets the nod when it comes to selecting the next manager. I suppose Cora continues to be a potential candidate but in some ways I do think that a fresh start would be a great idea. Let Bloom do his job. I would like to see someone though with a little managerial experience get the nod.
  4. I guess that I can understand your comment with respect to Maddon but with DD really? I never got the impression of self importance coming from him. I thought that he handled himself very professionally. A long way from a self-important twit.
  5. There are likely very few people outside of the most ardent supporters of Ben Cherington who want to blame someone else for the bad decisions that he made while in charge. Lucchino always served as an adequate scapegoat for those who think that they are sure that they know how all of these guys operate.
  6. it really is a done deal. Some interesting posts to read today. It seems that in hindsight there is at least a little agreement thinking that we likely would not have accomplished what we did without the trades made by DD. it also seems that some feel that if none of the trades were made we might be better today than we currently are but still not all that good. Most seem to think that our farm system would look stronger. This is where things get interesting for me. If your farm does not develop the quality that it takes to win, then trades need to be made. That is one of the purposes the farm serves. Stockpiling mediocrity just isn't good enough. pretty sure Bloom knows this just as well as he knows that we are in a search for quality pitching.
  7. Can you get away with posting this here? You clearly have not been educated with respect to what this one man did to destroy all of the hard work of the GM's that came before him. lol He did an excellent job for us and I think that Bloom likely will as well.
  8. Oh notin now I can't help myself - a softball lobbed perfectly into my minimal power zone. Almost everybody on here is trying to save JH some money. "Talksox Forum" has fiscal soundness as a top priority! lol
  9. Oh notin just stop. I'm not angry with you or anyone else. If being called a jackass is offensive to you, I apologize. In my frenzied little circle of friends, it is a term of endearment.
  10. Obviously i posted that comment to see if you Dombrowski haters, which you indeed are, would take the bait. Honestly I hope that bloom succeeds. i'm just not quite ready to give him the keys to the palace just yet simply because it appears that his philosophy with respect to dealing with a small market franchise coincides with yours. Now you suggesting that I ignore history of any kind crosses the line and puts you squarely in "jackass" sights. It's my lane so to speak. For the record, I'm not even sure why Dombrowski's name keeps coming up. I think that you haters would be better off if you just let it go.
  11. It is pretty obvious what the sentiment seems to be on this board as to how and how much money the red sox should be willing to spend for any and all contracts. That fact is fairly clear but I will say that if one of blooms goals is to make us more consistently good , I would suggest that he is simply adopting the philosophy of every GM that we have had for some time now. We have been consistently good. There remain many ways to skin a cat. I will continue to be that guy who doesn't really think that John Henry is as concerned about his play money as the rest of you. We will see i guess what the off season brings.
  12. Oh and for the record although I did like the Price signing, but sure as s*** I would have far preferred a John Lester reup.
  13. I love the guy and love the fact that he was signed to a new contract. It is not always simply about the money. As for E-Rod, just a few years ago the highest projection for him was that he might become a solid number 2 starter. I was and have been a big supporter but the people who expect more out of him I think will be disappointed. #2 maybe and that isn't bad but his mentality says that he ain't no ace. He is just not tough enough physically as well as mentally.
  14. I don't believe that it has to be an either or picture. Having a superstar or two shouldn't make the likelihood of having numerous above average players on the field an impossibility.
  15. Those small scale deals were very good but for me Sale and Kimbrel were the types of players needed to win at the highest level. They were deals that were very much needed. I'm betting on Chris Sale's history in Boston not quite being over. He'll be back and he'll be good.
  16. I will be over the top ecstatic with Bloom when he deals with what has been the perennial achilles heal - the acquisition of young pitchers. I agree with you of course with respect to DD and his efforts to acquire what we needed on the pitching front. It is befuddling and seems very short sighted to me when i read people questioning whether or not he had to make all of the trades that he made in order for us to win. That is hind sight taken to the extreme. He did what he had to do. Now a new chapter begins and if the pitching pipeline that Bloom has dealt with in the past comes to Boston now I think that the future will be bright. His chapter in town remains too written.
  17. Well obviously i disagree with you but to be fair I don't recall ever getting to hung up on who the GM is or was. I'm not sure that my defending a person who I think did a good job running our team can be considered as calling him a great GM. I don't rate GM's, I defend them. I am a fan of whoever the current GM is. I think that blaming anyone for a past that you didn't happen to like is a bit of copout. Each of the GM's that we have had have had positives and negatives with respect to what they have done. Any criticism that I have levied toward Ben Cherington has been a direct result of the constant chatter aimed directly at trying to find fault with Dave Dombrowski. Dombrowski was much more my type of GM for sure but I'm not sure why that is even relevant these days. We have a new GM and I am a fan.
  18. seriously - John Henry and the error of his ways - hmmm I kind of enjoyed the errors that he made!
  19. Quite likely. Probably time to just say what you mean i guess. Although I have to say that I don't spend that much time trying to dig crap up just to try to prove a point. I'll continue to take my chances with those great players on a regular basis. Much of this little discussion for me revolves around what the qualities might be of a great player. I'm thinking that mine might be a little different than many others here just based on reading what they have written over the years. Oh - hey I think that it is really cool how you highlight parts of what I have written. lol
  20. Weird things happen from time to time I guess. I don't disagree that from time to time teams with what look to be incredible amounts of talent don't get it done. what I object to actually are the posts like this that get dug up to prove what we all know happens from time to time. There are too many mitigating factors to be considered when trying to figure out why sometimes great teams just can't get it done. Give me those guys and a good pitching staff and I would take my chances against your team anyday.
  21. ******** once again after all... GM's just seem to provide a little hangup for you and your friends. Most of us I hope are big fans of the current guy who holds the position. After all ... they don't make the plays.
  22. semantics, linguistics, blah blah blah ...
  23. But the point made is excellent except that those tough assed dirt dogs who just get it done are the real superstars of which Mookie Betts still qualified as being.
