  1. Where did you come up with this - it would not be devastating to lose Betts next winter? Letting a player of this calibre who means so much to his team and the overall community is always going to be devastating. I would have enjoyed seeing him in a Sox uniform for more year. Do you think that I'm the only person who feels this way?
  2. I do not understand why they could not have done this. I have said many times that I am just a fan of baseball. I really have no interest in long term salary ramifications. That being said though, if this trade had brought us in at least one potential top of the rotation pitcher i could have accepted it much more easily. Obviously i'm not going to be swayed by all of the "reset necessity" that has been tossed around for more than a year. My excitement level right now is very low. I'll stay tuned but that is about it. Kind of looks as though my feelings are shared to a certain extent if projected ticket sales are down such as projected. my guess is that more fans than not are saying that we let a future hall of fame walk for very little in return. i would have enjoyed at least one more year of watching Mookie Betts in Boston.
  3. The Red Sox chose to roll the dice on this one. We all get to wait and see how it works out.
  4. It is just my opinion - i get that - but I am having difficulty really understanding how this particular deal improves us greatly long term. I understand that we got three young players this time around. I think that I understand the monetary ramifications as well. Just not sure that keeping betts for one more season and then watching him walk would have been devastating to the franchise.
  5. It was a ******** deal plain and simple. You trade away likely one of the best to play the game and receive none of what you need the most in return. You can live with the line of it was the best that could have been done all you want to, personally i think that it was a desperate move by an organization that had no need to be desperate at all. i wish these young men that came to Boston the best along with the rest of the guys whose names I have never heard of as we move forward. i'll tune in to watch from time to time I'm sure but this trade hurts.
  6. I lived in one of the poorest counties in the state of Maine for many many years along side some of the the hardest working and most fiercely independent people I have ever known. They aren't particularly enamored by the influence of the current big government encroachment. They want to for the most part be left alone. They see a social invasion on the horizon and don't like it. Someone has to pay for every new program that is introduced. I lived in the other state of Maine or what some of us call the real maine north of the city.
  7. Wonder why the slow encroachment from Ma to me then? Oh I think i got it - they want their private playground. ME is not so middle of the pack.
  8. It's always been maine for me but just doesn't make any sense any more. One of the poorest states in the country, with one of the smallest and oldest populations is also at present one of the most heavily taxed states in the nation. I would be ok with most of that if they were not to an extent mimicking states like Ma. and sadly somewhat like (you guessed it) California .
  9. I know right. Although very reluctantly I am away from Maine for a majority of the year, i will never give up my "old Maine card". I get laughed at down here for my language and independence by friends but I'm ok with it. If I could afford it, I would still be in Maine.
  10. As someone who was born raised and lived next to forever in Maine, I can tell you that unfortunately there absolutely are direct comparisons that can be made with respect to the s*** happening in the state of California and our own beautiful state of Maine.
  11. Nor is Portland and much of the illustrious coastline up to Penobscot Bay.
  12. Very sadly Maine seems to be becoming the next California.
  13. I know right . And how in the hell can those s***** little seats in Fenway be filled every single day? Everybody goes. Maybe they aren't as expensive as they look after all.
  14. I heard that before somewhere ... hmmmmm
  15. They got something for him. That is good. The Pillar signing makes it palatable. I think that it certainly looked as though they were going to trade him but i certainly do not think that it was necessary.
  16. you got an Earp in your background or a Holiday? my luck would probably be that of a Dalton.
  17. ok cool - useful info for me to know Moon
  18. damn you mvp - beat me to it Goat/gorilla
  19. didn't think he was a GOAT - thought he was a GORILLA! on a side note, Tom Werner lives on a course about 5 miles from where i am during the winter months. I think I'll give him a call and let him know what is in the hearts of true fans. Any suggestions? i'll respect your anonymity.
  20. Absolutely fans have been playing manager since the game was created. They are part of the game - in the game. They are in the arena so to speak and most of them have played at the highest levels as well. Gm's of course serve a useful function. I guess that I exist as one of those old dinosaurs who really don't get all wound up over who is hired to be directed by ownership. When their names start appearing on the backs of jerseys, maybe I'll change my perspective. Maybe ... I'll continue playing along here and getting a good chuckle about the time and effort people spend comparing the qualities of these administrative heroes. How about a GM Hall of Fame - for all I know one already exists.
  21. Being a fan of the game, I have and will continue to support any GM that the owner of the team hires. Historically some do better than others. Assuming that they might operate on their own in any way without the strict guidelines of the boss is ridiculous. Anyone thinking that DD was some sort of maverick who operated without JH budgetary constraints, is a hypocrite if they indeed believe that there is a Red Sox budget. Whatever DD did had to have been done with JH's blessing. Some things worked and some things didn't. The hiring of DD was excellent. Bloom's likely will be as well. have to give him a chance and wait and see. I continue to be amazed by all of the attention a general manager receives here.
  22. Good luck to Mr. Bloom. he could not be farther away from the Rays franchise than he is now in Fenway park.
