  1. Kind of like everybody makes the honor roll in our feel good about yourself and never be held accountable for anything era.
  2. hmmm - I'm still looking for this amazing influx of talent that we can expect to be overwhelmed by. Remember that we Red Sox fans can overate our minor leaguers with the best of them. Currently they are unwatchable. I had more fun watching them in the early 60's. At least we could hit.
  3. He is one of the best players in the game today. Signing Story to play second base I think was a good move. Signing him to replace Bogaerts I think is just ridiculously sad.
  4. Pretty much how I see it.
  5. Oh baby, another huge impressive signing. Who is that guy again?
  6. In my opinion it would be ridiculous if they did not resign both Bogaerts and Devers. The Story signing really does not look particularly brilliant at this time. He provides excellent defense at second base for us. Bogaerts continues to be more than adequate at shortstop and should remain there if resigned. I could care less that the flood of statistics that we get hit with say that Story is a better shortstop. Sometimes you make smart decisions based on other things.
  7. I hope that you are right about the farm buildup. There have been more players added to it for sure. We've all learned though that prospects are prospects until they actually show the ability to perform at the ml level. I can only speak for myself here but I have a tendency to get over excited and overly optimistic about the kids on the farm. At this point in time, I don't see one player at double or triple A that shouts out I'm the next guy. I'm not buying into the Casas hype until I actually see something outstanding from him when it counts. A huge buildup of farm mediocrity I guess can be a good thing if you use them the right way - including trades to get better.
  8. My biggest concern is that JH has decided that other things have taken on more importance in his life than the Boston Red Sox. Maybe there is a plan and maybe there isn't. None of us knows for sure what is going on here. I know that it is important to stay optimistic but simply based on the moves that have been made and those that haven't been made, I'm concerned about the the team going forward.
  9. That is the point isn't it? How badly does JH want to win these days? It is certainly a pleasant thought that we could be Tampa north I'm sure. Relying on unproven prospects regardless of their newspaper clippings and aging AAA veterans might not be the way to go. It doesn't have to be one or the other. And before it is mentioned again, I am aware of what the current red Sox payroll is.
  10. Well I can safely speak to one of your points. The kids play enough and in some instances too much. Baseball much like basketball and soccer have expanded programs that make the days of seeing a 3 sport athlete unique.
  11. I would add that although a youth movement can be exciting. If your youth movement consists of young people who really haven't shown that they do in fact belong at the major league level, you likely will not be successful no matter how much you want to sell it.
  12. I have heard the word professionalism mentioned here once or twice. Obviously it means different things to different people. The first offer made by ownership (if it is to be believed) to Devers smacked of unprofessionalism by ownership in my estimation. I do not think that they will wind up keeping him. That being the case, many lifelong fans are going to be deeply disappointed.
  13. Don't you think that it is evident that these three are greatly needed and likely greatly needed in the future? On this team, they kind of look like they stand alone. Trading any one of them for prospects or really for ever, sends a clear message. One that I am not going to like if it should happen.
  14. Without Bogaerts, Martinez, and Devers, where would this team be?
  15. Bloom has played a role in adding many new young faces to our minor league programs. A few of our young pitchers are showing some good potential. I keep waiting for that first no brainer sure thing to hop off the page to impress and i don't see him though. We'll have to wait to see how these kids develop but just adding players who perform at an average level doesn't really mean much. Outside of those few pitchers whose names we know, the rest of the bunch at the AAA and AA level could be traded for a talent upgrade and I'm pretty sure that I would be ok with it. i enjoy watching the youth movement as much as anybody but at the higher levels I don't see any position players that I would consider to be a can't miss kind of prospect.
  16. Hindsight for sure makes it look like a bonehead trade but there was plenty of justification for it at the time.
  17. Oh i think that he is actually behind all of those guys at this point including Walter but what is the kid 23? He is a big strong left hander. I don't think that he gets counted out just yet.
  18. A 23 year old Jay Groome is going to deserve a look see soon.
  19. Groome and Bello are getting closer and closer.
  20. It was a great day to be a New York Giants fan!!!
  21. I'm not sure what they do or where they plan to go from here to breath some life in to this group but I'm not sure bringing Casas up now will do anything other than give us someone different to look at. We do have some good looking arms in Worcester and Portland but I'm not sure the "Can't miss" sticker has been applied to any of them. A smart move for all would be to sign the very few players who really look like major leaguers that we currently have - Devers, Bogaerts, and Martinez. Without them, I think that JH stands a good chance of seeing a lot more than 10000 fans missing in Fenway on a regular basis.
  22. No question in my mind that they need to keep them both. JH will still be able to put food on the table even if he has to tighten the belt a bit.
  23. I'm with you on this one. I don't get the current strategy. It sucks.
  24. using Whitlock in the closers role would for sure have made them better. Maybe their plan for Whitlock doesn't agree with using him in a relievers role going forward. Looks to me like the plan is to start him.
