  1. Correcto - who ever spends that amount of time to just try to determine the number of bad decisions made by managers before they cost games, might not be having a beer with me on the porch. Too much time in a dark room. I agree with you very much that there are many things that could come under the heading of "human element" that can not be statistically measured. Confidence, anxiety, stress, attitude of the clubhouse in general, as well as a feel for the game.
  2. Too many players and you didn't even list them all. I continue to believe that they will take care of any pitching issues via the trade route and that they will take care of the position of dh either by using Ramirez there ( which I hope they don't do) or by signing Encarnarcion or a player like him. I'm not a big advocate of stock piling ml ready players just to prove to everyone that you have depth. I'm guessing that the field of candidates for position players gets shortened thru the trade process.
  3. I think that you are right and that is a problem for me. It is no knock on him either because he is as tough as they come. To compete at the top of the food chain, you need a minor bunch of guys as tough as he is.
  4. Brian johnson had another nice start in Pawtucket. Pulling for this guy. I really would like to see what he is capable of when healthy. Good for him that he is back in action.
  5. They'll trade Moncada before they dh him. They'll get their dh but I don't see it as a position that a motley crew of players will share. Shaw, Swihart, Travis,Benintendi, Vazquez, Leon, etc. etc. etc. Trade will happen. Good news about Moncada is that he has a great attitude and would do just what they want him to. Thinking that he is going to dh though is just as ridiculous as thinking that bringing up Benintendi to anchor a position on the bench everytime a lefty pitches makes any sense at all. Oh wait - that is what it looks like they are going to do.
  6. I'll agree with that.
  7. Don't get me wrong - I love Papi - My opinion - No one has ever done what Yaz did in 1967.
  8. I should have been more specific. I don't care about the other teams. As good as we seem to look statistically, there is something or someone missing that needs to be there to push a team over the top. In my world, everything does not get statistically dictated. There are intangibles that cannot be measured. i believe that some players perform better in tough situations than others. I believe that some players do not tend to come through when needed most even when the stats say they should. I believe that good teams learn to do what it takes to win in situations that it appears that they cannot win in. As much as I enjoy watching this team, i think that they are soft. Hope I am wrong but I don't think that they have a tough enough edge to win at the highest level just yet.
  9. Yaz - the end
  10. I think that we do match of well with most of the teams we face. Obviously the schedule sucks. I also think that no matter what the stats may indicate, there is something missing here.
  11. Very good one here. I see the difference here being that we had Yaz on our team in 1967. I have seen no one befoe or since have a season like he had. In the field as well as at the plate.
  12. up where I come from, we just say - can't make chicken salad out of chicken s***! A good coach will do a lot to stay out of the way. If the players are actually good, overcoaching can be much more hurtful than undercoaching.
  13. Liked reading your post and agree with what you have to say. Our current schedule is just about as bad as it gets. I really like this current team but I will say that it just seems to me that there is still a missing piece or two here. Overall we are young but regardless of age, there just seems to be something that they need that they do not have. I think Benintendi very well might give us a lift but alone I would be surprised pleasantly if his contributions would be enough to get us over the top. Statistically maybe it looks as though the pieces are all right there, but they still have to be ahead at the end of the game in order to win it. 85/86 win team this season i see. Getting better and hopefully will continue to do so in the future.
  14. A dump turkey just keeps on giving!
  15. i don't think that anyone has implied that it won't be an UPGRADE. A healthy Young or Swihart would be as well! We all want the best for Benintendi. We all hope that he is the real deal. Questioning whether or not it is the right move or feeling that it made sense to give someone else the opportunity out there before bringing him up does not in any way imply that people want nothing but the best for him.
  16. He sure did. When Rice and Lynn came on the scene it was other worldly. From a historical perspective, I hope people really appreciate the red Sox teams of the 70's.
  17. Ah sorry - 1975 and the gold dust twins!
  18. You and I have seen and said the same things. I hope that we are wrong.
  19. I find it hard to believe that most even casual fans wouldn't suspect there to be a huge difference between pitching at the AA and ml level.
  20. They are all "keepers" until the trade return is right. I don't think DD is going to give these guys away for nothing in return.
  21. I really hope that DD doesn't give a rat's rumpus about what I think. The good ones tend to not pay too much attention to what is written or said about them.
  22. good post - I'm calling ******** on everybody who is yapping about him dominating at the AA level. He is doing a very good job for sure but not what I see as dominating. Mike Trout he ain't but he may become our best option out there. I'm anxious to see what he can do and I hope that he can get it done.
  23. None of us here are going to know what DD was up to at the deadline. As things have gone, it looks as though by not acquiring a left fielder, Young's slow recovery, and Swihart still on the shelf, and Moncada just starting to get a sniff at a couple of other positions, It makes some sense to find out if Benintendi can get the job done sooner as opposed to later. he is talented for sure. My only concern which might not be a concern is his size. he is not 5'10 - 170. Left field has been a disappointment for us. Maybe he will prove to be the one going forward who solves the problem. We all knew (not just Moon) that Brentz and Holt were not going to be long term solutions out there. I advocated for Brentz to get his chance because he deserved it. I think that it worked out pretty much like we all thought it would. I'm still waiting to see what becomes of Swihart out of all of this.
  24. I agree with the your viewpoint here. DD may be done for awhile but I still see a trade coming for the best pitcher that we can get in the off-season. i for one would not want to bet who among the prospects will be staying and who will be going.
