  1. It is probably a safe bet to say that he doesn't check in with us very often. With that being said we have some people recently posting here who appear to have egos the size of the original Louisiana Purchase, so it wouldn't surprise me if they thought he was listening to them. The next time I talk to him, I'll let him know where he can find answers to all of his issues.lol
  2. Moot point I think. There is really no question that his appeal as a good hitting catcher would be greater than if he was a good hitting left fielder. The problem is where will he get a chance to catch again? I suppose it could be Boston someday if both Vazquez and Leon step on themselves. He just isn't going to magically move ahead of them on the depth chart. He just needs to get healthy and keep on keeping on.
  3. i think it is a damn good thing that DD read the talksox forum board before he inked that Beltran deal. We got a couple of beauties here who think they have a pipeline right to his office don't you think. lol
  4. sad story for Swihart. He will continue to be a very talented athlete. Personally, I would bet against him ever holding down a full time catching job in Boston. His skill level in general behind the plate may have been improving but he is a long way behind two young guys ahead of him. Vazquez and Leon are solid behind the plate. If Leon hits at all, he isn't going anywhere. I think that it is going to be very interesting to see what the Red Sox do here going forward. Swihart's athleticism and ability to play a number of different positions might just help to keep him in Boston. i would be very surprised if a young catcher with Vazquez's potential becomes the perennial backup going forward. The off season should be very entertaining.
  5. Sometimes the moves that don't get made are the best moves. They went after Beltran hard but the deal did not get done. It very well might work out to be a very good ideal. Please - Moon - if you are out there don't give me any statistics that you think justify not paying a premium price for a free agent. Not interested. What ever DD does with respect to this team very likely will work for me.
  6. if he joins Layne, he will be right across the road from you! You won't like that.(lol)
  7. Ok - you are right - 95+% of us. And who gets to determine when someone is officially READY? As an aside, I don't remember anyone really saying that a platoon of Holt and Brentz was fine. I for one am just happy that he is off to a good start. There are people on here who are trying to make it seem as though they were responsible for the move. Maybe they need a HUG or a PAT on the back. Do some of YOU really care who was right or who was wrong? Once again, anyone who follows the game and this team in particular saw this coming.
  8. glad to see tommy catching on with somebody even if it is the spankies.
  9. You're right. There is no one path or prescribed route for all prospects to follow to get to the big leagues. I don't think that I have seen one move made by DD to this point that I feel shows desperation. We might not all agree with the moves he has made. It would be unusual in Boston if we did. I don't think that our future is in jeopardy because he has traded away a couple of "prospects". I think that we are in good hands. Benintendi provides a definite upgrade. We all saw it coming. For some it just came a month early I guess. Merry Christmas in August I say.
  10. I would like to see Vazquez become the catcher that everyone thinks that he could become. if Leon continues to play like he has though, Vaz just might not get that chance in Boston. Is Vaz a better defense catcher than Leon? I know what the scouts say and what we hope for but is he actually better than Leon? It's a good problem to have.
  11. What you are saying makes sense to me. I like the thought of having a legit power bat in the middle of the lineup. No one has suggested that signing Encarnarcion should be done at the expense of finding the pitcher (s) we need via trade. I also do not think that there is any way in hell that DD would sign a dh to a 7 year contract. 3/4 at the most or he probably will be playing somewhere else. As an aside, i have faith in our GM. I believe that his moves to date have been justified and prudent. I do not feel as though they have been "panic" moves. Whether they have worked out or not just yet is still be determined but they were made not just to make some sort of splash for just this year. I do't think that he is done. This is going to be an interesting off season.
  12. I have heard no one suggest that signing Encarnarcion is the answer any "troubles". It would help us for sure - but the answer to whatever "troubles" you might think that we have going forward? No one at all has suggested that. Why say that? It is really enough simply to say that you would not like to see Encarnarcion signed and that you are not a fan of long term contracts.
  13. Hey - on a good note, hoping that this is the real deal with Benintendi. I say again - platooning him alone right now is a joke. Let the kid play. Let the kid hit.
  14. We are all fans and we get caught up in the emotion of the moment. That is not a bad thing. It is a good type of passion that we all have. I bet that you are right about Farrell and his feelings toward his players as well.
  15. i think that this scenario will happen. I don't think that anybody is going to fleece us though.
  16. Barring a trade though, if Leon doesn't turn into a pumpkin, Vaz will half to hit one helluva lot better than he has thus far or he is destined to seat on the pine in Boston. As each day goes by, it appears to be Sandy's job tools more than ever don't you think?
  17. Tommy Layne has been released by the Red Sox. Although I am not surprised. It was inevitable I think but it is still a very sad experience when it happens to a good person. A good family man. I wish him well and thank him for being a member of our team.
  18. I don't really know where I see him as the rest of the year unfolds. He is the one pitcher close enough to the big league roster that still has some intrigue for me. Before his latest injury/anxiety issues, I thought that he might have been that mid rotation guy that Pomeranz is supposed to be. If he gets a couple more strong starts, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get another crack at a job in Boston of the situation presents itself. I don't like him spending an extended period of time in the minors if he looks and feels ready. I kind of believe in the "wasted bullet" theory. My opinion is that at one time he would have been a better option than Owens. He also could be packaged and traded during the off season. I think that it is more than likely that we see more than one good sized deal being made.
  19. I like your opinion about him for what it is worth. Feeling that he has been awful and that it was a bad trade is just as extreme as saying that he has been excellent and that it was a great trade. He has had a couple of bad starts but I think that his future value is yet to be determined. I see him as a mid rotation arm and if he proves better than that, I will be thrilled. I won't be happy if he gives us less. Normally athletes are never as bad as they look when they are playing poorly nor are they always as good as they look when they are on top of their game. His first start for us was very bad.
  20. Hindsight really is great stuff. In a previous post you have indicated that Pomeranz was performing at a level that was equal to a number 2 starter. I think that he is a solid 3/4. I am ok with this trade. I'm pretty sure that everyone would have been on board for a stronger package for a prominent #1 if one had been available. It is fun to speculate isn't it but the more I read your posts (which I do for the most part) the more I appreciate the job our general manager is doing. It is a tough job.
  21. I absolutely agree with you. I guess my point was and is that he has done the job expected of him as a mid rotation pitcher. I always hope for better but in all reality if anybody thought that we were going to pick up someone better than him for basically Espinoza they live in a world of which I am not familiar.
  22. Your comments positive as they were about Pomeranz did not slip by me.
  23. check out Moons stats on the kid. You won't be so disappointed. 6 innings is good middle of the rotation kind of stuff these days. Maybe you wanted more from him than the Red Sox knew that they were going to get.
  24. I just went over the "stats" that you posted with respect to Boston's WAR. It is not something that I do because I am not particularly interested in a statistical deluge. But - imagine what I saw when I looked at your compilation of Pomeranz's stats. People can decide what they personally feel about Pomeranz's start thus far with Boston. There are what maybe 3 people posting here who have been overly critical of what he has done so far. They just need to temper their expectations. We signed a middle of the rotation pitcher and that is what we got. Another solid deal for DD.
  25. Ah well - that is the problem. Ace like stats. Over how many years of pitching has he had ace like stats? Not once did I read or hear from anyone connected with the team who knows anything about anything say that we were getting a pitcher who could become an ace because he had had a good run this year for a bad team. A young pitcher with the potential to be decent. It has been a good deal for the Red Sox and may prove to be a better deal going forward. No one likes to trade away any kind of talent particularly pitching talent. The fact remains that Pomeranz is currently a young middle of the rotation pitcher who has proven that he belongs in the big leagues. Espinoza , God bless him, may get to the big leagues in 3 to 5 years maybe.
