  1. Of course. The point I hope I am making is that some of the guys in our current bullpen look quite a bit better if they are expected to pitch less. That includes them all - good bad and ugly.
  2. I remember when Yaz broke in. As the years progressed so did his power numbers. You are also right about his defensive ability. His baseball IQ was unbelievable. I have said this before but it just doesn't get old for me - I have never seen anyone have a year like Yaz did in 1967. He led (sometimes) carried a very young but talented group into the world series. It always saddens me when I think that Neither he nor Ted ever won the big one. Doesn't seem right.
  3. My realistic view toward 2016 was 86 wins. That thankfully doesn't look like a winner as we move forward. I wonder how the rest of your rememberers are working.
  4. i absolutely believe that pitching less often to a fewer number of hitters can have dramatic effects. it is unbelievable the number of relief pitchers that are being used daily now. A normally good solid arm has to look better with adequate rest. a slightly below average arm can often get a job done if the job isn't a big one. Such as being asked to face one or two batters as opposed to being expected to pitch multiple hitters. The people that we have relied on in the toughest situations all season are getting more rest because of the extra arms that we have out there. If you don't need Kimbrel to be ready nearly every day, maybe he can pitch to 4 hitters a little more often. A rested Koji might just look like like the guy we remember so very well. The trick is using what you have out there in that bullpen to your advantage.
  5. Farrell might look a lot better in general if the Sox could use a 100 man roster - which would include a 50 man bullpen. Nowadays if you can limp into September with any hope at all, you still got a chance.
  6. Oh no no no - Come on - Love you some Moncada!
  7. As you know, I love me some Moncada. but he is still a prospect. I like shaw and think that he is more than adequate at third base for the time being. Actually i tend to think that he will get better with time. If this team did nothing in the off season but sign that big power bat free agent to replace Papi, I would be fine. I think that they will probably look to trade for pitching but I'm not sure that is a huge pressing need. One thing that we know from past history, John Henry isn't likely to start playing small ball with the purse strings. Good for us!
  8. I have been thinking about him for a while now. A very good idea.
  9. Stat masters - give me some info. How many relief pitchers are out in that bullpen currently? Has the expanded roster made it easier to keep your ammo rested? Is that part of the deal? If it is, then hold the fort in the pigpen until the first of September and ride the few well rested horses through to the end. Might de-emphasize the need to spend much money on trying to find relief pitchers.
  10. I agree with you. I'm just guessing like everybody else is here but I don't think that the Red Sox would go to 5/6 years with him. Wouldn't seem to make any sense. If he is actually on the radar for the Sox, I bet that they will make a very creative offer for him that he would have to consider. Who are the dh's out there who are being offered 5 and 6 year contracts at that type of money? I'm giving the organization credit enough to realize that that would be a ridiculous offer for an aging dh no matter how good he might be. 3 years makes more sense to me. No one on here has any idea what he is going to be asking for. If he can get a better deal to be someone's dh for a longer period of time, he better jump on it when the time comes. This time around I think that the Sox get to somewhat dictate what the terms of their offers will be and not simply what the market seems to suggest what they should or could be. Being in a position of strength for once is a good place to be.
  11. Scew that!! Come on!! just kidding
  12. You explained why. That says a lot. i'm glad that you are able to justify your own positions. I'm also very happy that DD and John Henry and company are running the franchise and not you. You are assuming that Ramirez will be moved to the dh position. I actually somewhat doubt that that is likely to happen. You are also assuming that EE will want and get 5 plus years at an extraordinary amount of money to be someone dh. I'm not sure that I believe he will get that type of offer from anyone.
  13. How do you say overmatched!!!
  14. A lineup with EE right in the middle of it - Hanley at first - a trade for a top young pitcher would be right up my alley. I am quite content to let Mr. Henry decide how he wants to spend his money. I have faith in DD's leadership and guidance as well.
  15. Last year was of course as we all know last year. No one was particularly excited about Hanley's left field experiment. His injury certainly didn't do much for the Red Sox faithful either. All that being said the guy has played an adequate first base and is happy physically and mentally. 26/100+ is tough to argue against. I operate on the premise of what have you done lately. i like what he has and is doing. I don't understand why anyone would want to trade him.
  16. Why would anyone who can afford Ramirez want to trade him? His defense is adequate and 25/100 is damn tough to improve upon. Red Sox can afford him and sign EE as well if they so choose. Any of the other gaps can be filled via the trade route if need be. If anyone suggests (which they have not yet that I have heard about) that another high priced free agent signing might impact this team's ability to make solid offers to our best young players going forward, then talk of $ makes sense. It is primarily John Henry's money and fan chatter about how he should be using it is just that - chatter. If and more likely when, he decides to sell this franchise, he is going to make a huge profit. I don't think that he really shows any signs of piching pennies with respect to the luxury tax. thankfully for all of us he is not afraid to spend.
  17. I'm really not sure that this makes much of a difference. With youth, if the talent is there, there is a certain hunger that comes along as well. We have just enough experience. I like the youthful talent.
  18. Not bad but I always could use a few more strokes when I play in those net tournaments!
  19. Good for you - You are experiencing the same feelings that some of us here felt in the fall of 1967. I was a junior in high school and with all of the stuff going around me at that time - school-girls-athletics - time still just kind of stood still. I could not wait for the next game.
  20. I totally agree that we are in a position of strength now with respect to potential trades. You have to listen when people knock on the door but I don't think that we need to actually do the knocking right now. At worst we come back with the same group minus the big boy. A big loss for sure but a free agent signing of Encarnarcion would fill that gap and our young players including Bradley would continue to develop. I'm not saying that this is direction they go in at all but if it happened to be that. I wouldn't mind. I'm not a Bucksnort fan but overall I kind of like our pitching staff. I actually think that our bullpen with Smith coming back (hopefully) will not be as big of a concern as it looked to be much of this season. I realize that I have certain individual players that I might seem overly optimistic about and JBJ is another one. I think that he is just going to get better. If I was someone elses GM, JBJ would be a kingsize target for sure. The franchise is in a great place right now.
  21. What i do know is that last year's September sucked. No meaning baseball that I really cared much about (I know - bad fan), The Giants ( apologies to New England) were awful, and my golf game was terrible. From last to first with meaningful baseball once again being played at an absolutely beautiful time of year. I'm not sure that anything in sports can rival a real pennant race in September. I get the excitement and love of all sports New England but Boston and Baseball has been, is , and always will be something very special.
  22. Should he be the featured piece in a big trade during the off season? In the past, we have kept a number of top prospects until their value has vanished. He is an unrefined prospect who has great value right now.
  23. He is in the best place he could be for whatever it is that he needs good luck.
  24. Deliver "ance" me please.
  25. Agree -
