  1. I realize fully as well that I can't do anything about it as a fan. The whole situation amazes me. In a way, it is how I view the Olympics. I have come full circle. I believe that if you are a paid professional, unless you happen to be either sick or injured, you have a contractual obligation. That is the way it goes. If we lose players due to injury or if they just aren't ready when the season begins, I will be fine with them not going north with the big club.
  2. Sanchez debut equalled something I would call other worldly.
  3. OK - Just curious what other people think. I'm with Porcello on this one. The obligation to your team should trump your personal feelings when it comes to playing for your country if you are a professional. It is a long season!
  4. Maybe that was him in that Wally suit. I'm going to have to call numbskull on that guy.
  5. lol - this is another arguement that we have beaten to death. My guess is that they will keep and use the players that will give them the best chance to win regardless of available options. All things being equal - 2 players who are basically the same and you have room for only one, then yes the one with the option probably gets sent down.
  6. My guess would be that he tops out in the low 20's. He is just going to be a solid hitter for a long time I hope.
  7. I wasn't thinking home runs. Lots of doubles. If he stays fit, I don't see him ever turning in to a home run hitter.
  8. I think that you are right.
  9. His swing does remind me of Lynn's. People just have to keep in mind that as he develops he will never have Lynn's size. I do think that his potential as a yearly all star isn't too much of a stretch.
  10. Good to hear and good for you. Getting a break from our weather at this time of year is great. Have fun and keep us posted.
  11. Where are you? I don't get it with Castillo either. The Red Sox are gradually getting rid of these types of guys. The physical ability has always been obvious. It is that non-measureable area between his ears that seems to be the issue.
  12. The picture was meaningless to me. I read what he wrote. Castillo dogged it down the first base line because he had no clue how many outs there were. I saw humor in the picture.
  13. thought they had finally found a job for castillo. lol
  14. If there was a clause in his contract stating that into order to get paid he could not use any potential social media device' he would be fine. Everybody gets a voice these daze.
  15. Castillo might not ever really get it.
  16. I have always given Ben credit for his good moves. He just doesn't get all of the credit. He doesn't deserve it. Many people in addition to him played rolls that have been equally important.
  17. here's the thing to that I see about prospects. I still really consider Benintendi and Swihart, as prospects even though it looks like Beni might be a can't miss one. When you add those two to Travis and Devers looks like we are in great shape going forward. Honestly you could actually even add Vazquez to that list if you were using my list. We gave up a bunch to get plenty of good stuff in return. No one likes to potential talent go and we for sure have all voiced our opinions but in the end it looks like things are going to work out. Is this where I say - thanks Ben? lol (just fooling around - no "snarkiness" intended at all)
  18. Just watched it - looks good. he has done some good hard work.
  19. I think that he has the potential to have a great career. The only worry I have abut this kid is whether his body holds up over the long haul. He really has never been injury prone but he isn't as big as he is listed. If in fact he put on 10 pounds then he is closer to the weight listed for him in last year's Portland program - 175. He looks good, fit and strong. If he doesn't wear down, everything looks like he could be a real good one. I know that some people like to compare his build and size to Mookie but they just aren't put together the same way.
  20. I agree - it is making me "snarky" and I seriously f***ing hate being this way. I'm on to bigger and better things!
  21. You are probably right but I really don't know what snarky is. Sarcastic - you bet. I don't care at all whether you or anyone believes what I believe about topics such as this. I sense an extremely condescending tone coming from people who question some really pretty good opinions that they don't agree with. I have no problem admitting when I am wrong about something which actually is quite often. I respect your opinion but your evidence of overwhelming proof that such really unmeasurable topics such as "clutch" does not exist does not work for me. I don't mind a good healthy civil debate but if it takes a turn, yes I can be sarcastic or what you call snarky.
  22. Sorry - has nothing to do with baseball but it does have something to do with something I actually know a little bit about. The best marathon runners in the world do indeed lift weights. They are not trying to gain weight and probably couldn't if they tried. You would be amazed at the number of weight control exercises that a real runner can do. total body fitness really is what it is all about.
  23. The scenario you painted sounds like the way I was raised. Lots of love, plenty of food, clean clothes. All the other stuff that a majority of the poor kids today have - not so much. Times have changed for sure and I am deeply sympathetic and giving to those in need but most of us probably have a story to tell. My turn to a love of athletics, more specifically baseball, helped get me through. I never had time to think about anyone who might have had more. In rural Maine, the majority of people lived about like we did. My take on this is that in this country, if you are bright enough and willing to work hard enough for something quite often things work out well. Maybe I got lucky maybe I didn't. I had plenty of help but only because I earned it. Nothing was given to me - I must have been clutch.
  24. Before camp began, I saw the pictures of sandoval and he looked good, real good. The latest ones of him - not so much. I am tempering my feelings of any excitement for him. i don't believe that we have been looking at doctored pictures. I really am suspicious and don't have a lot of faith in him. I really hope that he proves me wrong. We need a solid everyday third baseman. More importantly, this could be Pablo's last stand.
