  1. Castillo might not ever really get it.
  2. I have always given Ben credit for his good moves. He just doesn't get all of the credit. He doesn't deserve it. Many people in addition to him played rolls that have been equally important.
  3. here's the thing to that I see about prospects. I still really consider Benintendi and Swihart, as prospects even though it looks like Beni might be a can't miss one. When you add those two to Travis and Devers looks like we are in great shape going forward. Honestly you could actually even add Vazquez to that list if you were using my list. We gave up a bunch to get plenty of good stuff in return. No one likes to potential talent go and we for sure have all voiced our opinions but in the end it looks like things are going to work out. Is this where I say - thanks Ben? lol (just fooling around - no "snarkiness" intended at all)
  4. Just watched it - looks good. he has done some good hard work.
  5. I think that he has the potential to have a great career. The only worry I have abut this kid is whether his body holds up over the long haul. He really has never been injury prone but he isn't as big as he is listed. If in fact he put on 10 pounds then he is closer to the weight listed for him in last year's Portland program - 175. He looks good, fit and strong. If he doesn't wear down, everything looks like he could be a real good one. I know that some people like to compare his build and size to Mookie but they just aren't put together the same way.
  6. I agree - it is making me "snarky" and I seriously f***ing hate being this way. I'm on to bigger and better things!
  7. You are probably right but I really don't know what snarky is. Sarcastic - you bet. I don't care at all whether you or anyone believes what I believe about topics such as this. I sense an extremely condescending tone coming from people who question some really pretty good opinions that they don't agree with. I have no problem admitting when I am wrong about something which actually is quite often. I respect your opinion but your evidence of overwhelming proof that such really unmeasurable topics such as "clutch" does not exist does not work for me. I don't mind a good healthy civil debate but if it takes a turn, yes I can be sarcastic or what you call snarky.
  8. Sorry - has nothing to do with baseball but it does have something to do with something I actually know a little bit about. The best marathon runners in the world do indeed lift weights. They are not trying to gain weight and probably couldn't if they tried. You would be amazed at the number of weight control exercises that a real runner can do. total body fitness really is what it is all about.
  9. The scenario you painted sounds like the way I was raised. Lots of love, plenty of food, clean clothes. All the other stuff that a majority of the poor kids today have - not so much. Times have changed for sure and I am deeply sympathetic and giving to those in need but most of us probably have a story to tell. My turn to a love of athletics, more specifically baseball, helped get me through. I never had time to think about anyone who might have had more. In rural Maine, the majority of people lived about like we did. My take on this is that in this country, if you are bright enough and willing to work hard enough for something quite often things work out well. Maybe I got lucky maybe I didn't. I had plenty of help but only because I earned it. Nothing was given to me - I must have been clutch.
  10. Before camp began, I saw the pictures of sandoval and he looked good, real good. The latest ones of him - not so much. I am tempering my feelings of any excitement for him. i don't believe that we have been looking at doctored pictures. I really am suspicious and don't have a lot of faith in him. I really hope that he proves me wrong. We need a solid everyday third baseman. More importantly, this could be Pablo's last stand.
  11. Hey now - you know better . No one has ever said that if it can't be measured then it can't exist. At least that is what I have been told. Guys like us probably wouldn't recognize clutch and clutch moments even if they did exist. lol
  12. It is just so hard dealing with the brilliance in general. I think it pretty much is the unspoken implication.
  13. Why oh Why?
  14. Are you saying that because it is not measurable than you do not think that it exists?
  15. This is all well and good. All of these non-political but yet somehow very politcal statements. Turning it back to baseball, we hear very little feedback when it comes to how much professional athletes and entertainers in this country make. We live in the greatest country in the world. Only in America means so much and yer so many different things.
  16. Do you stash that bat in AAA for how long? If he is ready to hit, what do you do?
  17. I have heard this developmental comparison to Varitek before. Am I right in assuming that Varitek was a catcher and for the most part a catcher only. I think that we are talking about a much more versatile player here. I really don't think that anyone in Boston plans on giving him to the age of 30 to develop. Once again, and I truly believe it, I think that there is still a concern as to whether either Vazquez or Leon provide what the Red Sox really want going forward. i really don't think they know. If they were really confident in either Leon or Vazquez, both young men, being our number one going forward, I think that Swihart would either be playing another position or two for us right now or he would have been traded. If his bat is ready, something is going to have to give.
  18. Yes I think that we do but most have suggested that it is going to take some time. I really don't think tucking him away in AAA for 2 or 3 years is going to make any sense at all.
  19. I'm not going to be advocating for not keeping Holt. He has been very valuable to us for sure. that being said, if Hernandez were to replace him and get some substantial time, I think that we would all be pleasantly surprised. I think that he could be a solid player for anybody.
  20. Wow - it is a Red Sox forum board. I guess the assumption is that if we are posting here that there is a pretty good chance that athletics have played a large role in our lives. These experiences don't represent all of my personal best moments but outside of family experiences that did not include athletics ( which most did) they do represent a huge portion of the very times that I have experienced. No one should feel sorry for me. The games including both the ones I watch and the ones I compete in still give a reason to keep on trucking.
  21. I think that Blake Swihart is one hell of an athlete. That being said I doubt very much that he ever catches full time for the Sox. He may get a look but we all know that he has a lot of work to do. The Red Sox don't need to be in a wait mode. He has been dinged around for awhile now so at least it is a good thing I think that they seem committed to leaving him behind the plate. His bat could be race ready early this year. If they can't find a way to use this kid , it would be a shame but in order for him to catch in Boston, he would have to show remarkable improvement in a short period of time. Do people think that this franchise is willing to wait a couple of years for him to develop as an actual catcher if his bat is major league ready? Do they need to? Personally, I wonder what is going through his mind right about now.
  22. absolutely.
  23. Relative to what though?
  24. If you have prepared, and have nerves of steel (so to speak) and ice water (so to speak) in your veins your chances of success are enhanced. Most athletes fail more than they succeed. It is all relative to the game they happen to play.
  25. It is! It is why I still try to compete. I get the fact that golf is different but I still see so many good young players who honestly have such good looking swings but they just haven't figured out how to score. they don't get that it really is about grinding. I really think that it has to do with mental toughness or strength, call it what you like. You can't define it but it exists. I see it almost everyday. The more you live in pressure situations, the more you learn how to deal with it.
