  1. I hope that all of our former prospects do well. Franchises that are moving forward not backward know that you can't keep them all. You have to use all means available to build a championship team. if they turn out to be real good, they may even return home someday.
  2. bon appetite - someone still has to shoot the little sob's. Greasy too. I'd put the odds of anyone here snagging 1 for you right up there with the likelihood of Pomeranz pitching a complete game shutout so you should be ok either way. lol
  3. I missed today's game. Hernandez with 3 hits and Leon doing what he keeps on doing. not bad for the proverbial utility guy and our fat little backstop. i'm one good game from Pomeranz away from being fan fanatical. Let's go.
  4. this is the second time that I have read about someone offerring to eat crow if they were wrong. it is a safe bet because i am thinking that no one on this board has a clue about how difficult it would be to harvest one. I do and I am pretty sure that you can't-lol. Heres to Pomeranz!
  5. Clay was a frustrating player for a fan to cheer for. When he was on he was an A- but when he was off you get to pick what he was. I always anticipated ace resemblance from him. I've never envisioned such heights for Pomeranz. Middle of the rotation kind of guy to me. If people think that too much was given up for him, so be it. For me, the jury is still out on that one.
  6. He is one of the twins right - 2 little bastards! lol
  7. This is a good post. I don't necessarily agree with you that all "clutch" hitters are great hitters in general, but that is the beauty of having a discussion based around something for which there is no real defining. It has been a good sharing of opinions!
  8. To me it does but I will admit that that very well might be me. I'm not sure whether or not anything can be infinite. Although every piece of scientific data tends to show proof that infinity is for real, who truly knows. I feel the same way about this discussion. There may be overwhelming statistical data to show proof that the concept of what some consider clutch players (whatever that might mean) do not truly exist. No one knows for sure. There are just too many variables.
  9. Since I believe that there are among us athletes that can appear very normal who when you least expect them to seem to be able to come up big in big moments, I have to ask this question - to those of you who that this is just not possible, does the concept of infinity vs something finite bother you also? Is there such a thing as infinity? Is it provable? With that being said - your idea of a clutch situation and moment and my idea probably would be quite different.
  10. Joe Kelly may never figure his mechanics out. Something just doesn't seem to click with this guy.
  11. Got to love a third gear. You can actually shift a car without that clutch if you are careful. Don't even have to grind those gears.
  12. great for Margot! Good to see.
  13. I think that I am really going to like this team. Work hard and battle back. under manned today for sure but no excuses. these guys work hard.
  14. This I get - kind of like me pulling for Hernandez. I actually understand and appreciate your stand. You like Vazquez and it isn't a comparison that is data driven. He is young and still might be the guy moving forward. We all want the best catcher that we can have.
  15. Eject button? really? Who would you eject him for in all honesty? Sounds like someone expecting him to fail to me. I'm happy we have him and don't consider him someone simply holding a job for someone else. I really don't think that the Red sox have an eject button ready for Leon.
  16. Is there much of a difference with respect to what the experts say currently between Vazquez and Leon when it comes to defending the position? Are they a long way apart in certain areas?
  17. I think that your take is a good one. Very sensible. I just keep looking at Sandy and thinking what is there about him (lacking I guess) that makes him any less of a defensive catcher than CV. Actually I think he is a decent framer of pitches and I really can't see anything wrong with his arm. He has a very strong and accurate one. I want the best for Vazquez too but I think that Sandy gets sold a little short by some people in comparison to him. it is a good problem to have. the one I really am beginning to feel sorry for is Swihart.
  18. See this is the thing - there really is more than one way to "skin a cat". We all value starting pitching probably more than anything else. You either develop them yourself or you let someone else do it for you. I would be in favor of a trade like you suggested i think. Draft the best young players that are available - keep some trade some. That is the way it goes. When you have the resources that the Red Sox have available to them, you don't have to rely on one way of doing things. Probably why I am ok with the Espinoza trade. Lets see if and when he ever becomes a top of the rotation guy. If he does, we likely will be in the hunt to get him back.
  19. I have to ask you why with respect to Vazquez? What about Leon do you not like when comparing him to Vazquez? I have read a great deal of what has been written with respect to Vazquez and I understand the premium paid for having a defense first catcher. I still think that Leon is a defense first catcher. Like you, I am definitely a defense first guy when it comes to this position and maybe even to baseball in general. I don't think that the difference between the two will ever be that significant. With respect to these two, they are on fairly equal footing. It very likely is going to come down to the better hitter of the two.
  20. Come on now. That poor horse just can't get to the barn soon enough.
  21. I think she meant over the course of the entire game. 9 plus whatever - nobody gets to second. That is pretty unusual.
  22. I feel and felt the same. I think that Sale is and has been on a different level though.
  23. I did and still do. Of course I want Pomeranz to pitch better, but that is not a trade that bothers me one bit. I still think he could be a big help. When and if Espinoza appears on a ml roster, maybe I'll change my mind.
  24. kept me going for months.
