  1. batting practice? hope not
  2. I know that this is true. I would just add that it can be a big play on the bases or in the field. Best players are not always the best hitters.
  3. I didn't think that you trashed Benintendi at all. He is good and he will get better but bradley is a different breed of cat out there. he is clutch(lol). I agree with you!
  4. He might have for sure but stuff happens. We know that. I was more upset with him not getting a few early calls than anything else. They could have gone either way. They didn't go his way. I just get upset when comments are made in general that relate to a person's character when we really don't know anything about him. My opinion is that it relates directly to the fact that some just didn't like the trade in general and thought that based on prospects rankings of a young pitcher we should have gotten more than Pomeranz in a trade. I'm ok with that. I don't agree with that opinion because I don't place as much value in prospects rankings with respect to what their future might become before they are 18 years old than some do. I would hate to think that a potentially good young ml pitcher gets victimized in Boston for things that he can't control. As an aside, i do think that Bradley might have made that catch but it still would have been a very good one.
  5. My statement about the power bat in the middle was directly related to the possibility of losing Ramirez for any length of time. I assumed that you would know that. I know that it is never a good thing to assume anything. you have an amazing way of turning my words into thoughts that i don't have. I hope that what you say proves true that we have all of the big bats that we will need.
  6. I could have said that I guess more or less. I do of course know that there are players who for what ever the reason might be seem somewhat ordinary for the most part and then just seem to get lucky i guess in very difficult situations. Most if to all of this discussion centers around hitting. My clutch players are often the guys who do things that don't show up glaringly in the box score. They just consistently do what is expected of them. i have stated numerous times that my hands on experience over the course of a lifetime is what tells me that this "phenomenon" exists. i also will admit that personally it relates to large school football, basketball especially, and baseball at the high school level. I also admit that I can't statistically prove most of what i have said but I also think that it is silly to try - imo. Better add that right. I also am pretty much ok with being on an island with a few others here when it comes to discussing all things athletic. it's been my life and a pretty good one.
  7. Silly me, I thought everybody came here. i still saw some positive in his effort. Double figures in K's and if runs could be considered just sort of earned, he had a few of those. I like the kid, I like his arm, and I like the trade. I knew we weren't getting Koufax when we made it.
  8. Looks to me like it might take this team a little time to establish their new identity without the big bat in the middle of the lineup. I'm pulling hard for Sandoval. He has done some hard work and deserves better. I don't think that Hernandez will ever be more than just a fill in at third. He is a 2nd baseman/shortsop. He may very well hit for average but this team is going to need some power. The Ramirez injury complicates things from a potential power source for sure.
  9. I'm not going to defend Pomeranz when he struggles which he did a little today. I would say that he got pinched early and a couple of plays could have been made behind him and then who knows what might have happened but that is hindsight. Where the hell does your "great Pomeranz" s*** come from? I'm not above criticizing poor play but it only gets personal for me when someone has a bad attitude or just doesn't work. A 28 year old kid who cares and has some ability shouldn't have to be personally berated by anyone. Social media strikes again. thanks for stating some obvious numbers too. I'm sure the guys who posted them don't care at all. lol
  10. Many do agree with you also.
  11. Are there any teams out there who are dong it all based solely on home grown talent and competing at the highest level year in year out? If it was possible in this day and age, it would be great. It doesn't look like it is. If the Red Sox stay young and highly competitive year in and year out through a combination of homegrown talent, free agency, and trades, I'm ok with that.
  12. That is fair but no one should be talking about trying to eat anymore crow here. They are smarter than most of us. i realize I don't know most "of us" but I am still assuming that they are smarter. lol
  13. And for sure some players are better than others in seriously tough situations. Those are my clutch guys.
  14. Only speaking for myself here. I care deeply about the future of this franchise. I'm saying that I disagree very much with anyone who thinks that what has been done has been done with no regard for what might happen next. I do not think for one second that there will be a "cliff".
  15. I understand and certainly respect this point of view. Somewhere along the line you really are going get what you pay for. i don't really care where the pitching comes from as long as we have it. Based on the historical track record of the franchise in general, they are going to get it. if we overpay for something, I hope it is pitching. We all know that we will be overpaying for something. good thing we can afford it.
  16. I'm thinking that it is possible that you don't know the history of the New York Giants in New England when it comes to football. When you are the only show in town, you tend to attract some interest.
  17. A great deal of time is spent here talking about developing young pitching. i agree that we need to do a better job of it but Price and Wright are over 30. Sale, Porcello, Rodriguez, and Pomeranz are all 28 or younger. That is not bad. We may not have developed them but somehow we got them. Over the years, we have been very successful getting it done in a variety of ways. We have been able to do what most teams just dream about. I like the youth overall of our starting core. Personally, I don't care where they come from or how we get them - as long as we get them.
  18. But some how this franchise just keeps rolling along. i think that many of us tend to focus on the bad stuff or things that we think could go wrong. i'm just saying that we have had a tremendous amount go right for us over the years. For all of this talk about poor pitcher development, not producing power hitters, poor trades, lousy coaching, and poor medical staff, i'm sure as hell glad that this is the team and the region that I support. This is a very wealthy, multi dimensional program that we have here. We all have our pet peeves and things that we feel the Sox could do a better job at but really - not too bad I'd say. We can question every move that is made but it is pretty tough to deny what the results overall have proven.
  19. i certainly see your point as well. I would counter by saying that many pitchers became great pitchers over time with much hard work. I will never get too excited about teenage pitchers in particular. As much can go wrong as right with them.
  20. Like so many moves that GM's make, they get judged after the fact. It does look like he used some commons sense and played the odds based on buck's history. If Clay was a healthy Clay pitching the way that he sometimes can, it would be a different story. I was in favor of the move because at some point I think you just have to cut your losses and move on.
  21. Sorry if I misinterpreted. I really do think that it is a stretch to think that we were going to anyone resembling Sale for Espinoza plus a few others in a trade. I get why everyone continues to be upbeat about Espinoza. i just come from a different point of view when it comes to teenage pitchers and I don't care what the scouting reports say. I really do want to see him do well but I still like that trade.
  22. Hey - just a phrase I threw out. They might skip a lot of beats. But I will to continue to stay upbeat. If what i said made anyone think that I don't think that we still might have some issues with respect to who our catcher is going forward, then maybe I could use a beating.
  23. Let's see - Sale and Espinoza in some way being compared to one another at all! Honest to God - I may love the kid to if and when he ever makes it to the bigs. To date, he has done nothing to warrant his lofty ranking. he may for sure but he has quite a ways to go. I'll take the big young lefty who I have always felt could give us a solid mid rotation (maybe higher) performance all day everyday.
  24. I love the fact that we have two top of the line catchers. it is a long season and sharing that job without skipping a talent beat has to a good thing.
  25. "Whiners Unite" is a patented phrase!
