  1. I don't know about that Notin. It might mean not pretty. It also might mean someone with a total game. Larry might really have been one of the grittiest of all time and he could shoot it a little.
  2. so now i am confused. We finally see something that might resemble real toughness and teammate support and the teammate being supported is caught on camera seemingly throwing someone from his dugout under the bus. Now, don't get me wrong, it might not be a popular opinion here but I don't think Machado really did anything to warrant being thrown at. I believe that they should have waited on this one for the right time to come within the actual confines of the game itself. If he had hit him in the ribs maybe ok but throwing at the head? Sorry - I don't think so. Can we really afford to lose barnes for any time? With all that being said, it looks to me as though these guys want to play with a harder edge and are going through a process to get there. I would have felt better if Pedroia had just touched base with Machado privately after the game. I'll be very anxious to see what comes of this. Not even Pedroia gets a free pass here.
  3. It will be interesting to see what Pedroia has to say.
  4. same page here - Joe Morgan - Don Baylor.
  5. It is an agenda that I choose not to buy into!
  6. What is a Scrappy McTufferson exactly? I'm sorry that you are surprised that what you are saying is somewhat controversial.
  7. ??? Being gritty and tough is racially charged? In who's world?
  8. Of course. When people agree with me, I to think that it is reasonable.
  9. I don't equate toughness to being 11-8 necessarily. We all know that they are talented.
  10. It is supposed to be about the pitching but if the pitching isn't there, i guess you have to hit a little. Maybe today. Also you now have a pitcher that can only be used on very specific weather related days? Calling ******** on that one.
  11. I agree with what you have said here. Although I see Hernandez as being potentially very good at 3 infield positions, I still see him as a second baseman or a shortstop. There is no question at all imm that he provides a far better fielding option at third than does Sandoval. The problem is that I also think that they are looking for a little more pop from a third base bat than Hernandez will ever provide. It is going to be the Panda unless he just implodes completely. Sad situation but it is the reality.
  12. Hope I'm wrong about this. I have felt this for awhile about our position players. "they look so good on paper". I keep hoping that Betts, Bogaerts or anybody else might step up and play with just a little nastiness. you need more that Pedroia and a guy who plays every fifth day.
  13. Watching Wright, a pinch runner I do not see.
  14. Well ok I'll play along and prepare for the lash back. When you aren't hitting and scoring you still have choices. Sit tight and wait for things to change or actually do some different things. If you can bunt - you bunt - If you can run- you run. If the lack of production continues, I would like to see them try a few different things to try to initiate some offense.
  15. did i start this? It really wasn't meant to be anti-anything. Judging from the reaction, if you aren't all in with respect to having blind faith in most things analytical, it means you don't believe that analytics play a significant role in today's game? That is a wrong take but whatever floats your boat. I don't think that I would say anyone posting here is 100% anti-stat.
  16. One of the hardest things to teach young athletes is that it is possible to be tough and maybe even a little mean but still be a human being. Don't let the *******s of the world get inside your head. I worked with a lot of kids who new that they could have kicked someone's ass in a fight but it was more important for us all it they were able to walk away from the taunts. I understand why tek might not have considered that one of his finer moments it is just that every now and then you have to do what you have to do. he was our kind of player!
  17. lol Kind of why I was a big Johnny Gomes fan. Kind of like the old Trotter too. I always liked the athletes who did not start things but really weren't afraid to finish things when the heat got turned up.
  18. Oh I get where you are coming from. I don't want them to walk away from s*** incidents like this either. I just think that this team might be about 90% too soft for me. I love them but they need to be tougher. I'm not even sure Kelly would be up to it.
  19. Wasn't bitching coming out of me. I might be guilty of bitching just little when he made the move. Ultimately it was and is about winning. I bet that I was the only one who was whining about it when Sale didn't get the ball in the 9th.
  20. i agree. I also think that a Ty Cobb minor dose right about now wouldn't hurt these guys at all. Hell I'd even settle for Pete Rose or even let me see who was that guy who caught for us just a few years ago? Jason something or other!
  21. I'm just hoping that Farrell would have been smart enough to realize how long he was good for.
  22. I could not be sicker of things like face first slides. They don't necessarily have to nail that nutbag from the mound. It's a long season. Play harder - play tougher - not dirtier and your time comes.
  23. No is the answer. I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that Sale fits my toughness criteria too though.
  24. correcto - just toughness in general.
