  1. i still like Hernandez but I can't really defend him much for the gaffs he made last night. But, as it has already been said many many times, he is not a third baseman. Playing him there has set him up for failure. That is on the coaching staff.
  2. but Porcello looks so good
  3. if Hayward reunites with Stevens and we get the right draft pick, this team will take off in the future for real. Celtic Pride - 176
  4. I am one of those big bat guys I know. I still also think Pablo gets a chance. I am also very anxious to see if and when Price comes back and what he has to give when he does comes back. If our pitching staff is ever completely healthy, we may very well not need the big bat. I would still want one in there though just because ...
  5. You might be right but he will not get a pass for many of the things that he does or does not do from me. Once again, I still do like him.
  6. I still love Eck - Barnes is still a kid. Wrong guy to do the job. Eck gets it.
  7. i agree with you. JF is tough for sure as an individual. There is absolutely no question about that ! none! Now as a coach does he prepare them adequately for all of the stuff that they might face? i don't know about that one. He would kick the crap out of Showalter if it was just the two of them. Sadly it is not. We really did look kind of foolish coming out of Baltimore. i do think that that is on Coach Farrell.
  8. Kudos to Farrell but I don't think that means he uses him the right way. He uses him the established way. Not bad necessarily, but sometimes it is ok to get maybe just a little creative. My guess is that unless he reads it or hears it someplace else, ain't happening with John. For the record (please) I still like JF.
  9. The expression wasn't used at all when Dick Radatz on Johnny Wyatt were doing their thing. But, alas, if they had to get more than 3 outs, they just did.
  10. i think that you are right here. i would really miss this kid. I think the day will come that he starts for someone at second base. Right now I think that he provides a better option for us in the infield then either Holt or Rutledge but as far as a trade is concerned - In the right package he could provide very good value.
  11. i like that expression "relief ace" much better than "closer". Closer implies only one time that you can actually use a guy. JF takes these things very literally I think.
  12. It's too wet and slippery. We don't want them to get hurt. lol
  13. i really think that the whole concept of specialization in baseball has gotten too big. I particularly hate the fact that we see it with respect to relief pitchers. set up men - 8th inning specialists - closers. Pigeon holed and stereotyped . Win the game! You have to understand though that I am one of those advocates for your best players making the team regardless of what their options might be.
  14. Believe it or not (you can), i think that we are on the same page here.
  15. my bet tonight = no incident. We looked stupid coming out of Baltimore trying to make some kind of a statement. i have felt that there have been and still are leadership issues with this team.
  16. I would like to think that I had some evidence to backup my stance but i don't. I think that it is likely that rutledge and hernandez would be a wash at third base and I would bet on hernandez being a better hitter than Rutledge from either side of the plate. Just a better ballplayer in general. All that being said, I think Sandoval still gets a chance. He has the potential to hit the ball over the fence rarely perhaps but at least every now and then. That is one thing that he has going for him and it is something that this team needs.
  17. Curious about which would be more unusual, a homerun or the mistakes made by the Cubs? If I was presented with a choice, I would prefer that rare homer as opposed to banking on our opponents throwing away the game. I'm not disappointed, a win is a win but it is going to take a much better blend of hitting to win a title.
  18. scoring machine back in the day
  19. Rutledge does not fit. Use him to give Hernandez a break now and then. I would much prefer to see what Hernandez can really do against both righties and lefties as opposed to platooning strictly. Regardless of what the stats say. Old school right.
  20. it's all good that so many people are finding ways to enjoy the game theses days. Seems to be a statistic for virtually everything. Personally a lot of overdose and redundancy for me - not a criticism so don't go unhinged on me. To be a championship team usually it takes a good blend of everything to get it done. if everybody is back and healthy with respect to our pitching, we very well might be good enough but if everybody does not return we will need some power help in the middle of that lineup. Based on what I have seen so far, I'm really not overjoyed by Moreland's play at first base either. Hanley "looked" better last year.
  21. Just kidding - Although I am not and have never been snarky, I do know what the word means.
  22. wtf is snarky anyway. I'm thinking that when it has been used in reference to me that it is not a compliment. i don't like a snarky.
  23. Not where I am but I kind of wish they would.
  24. oh stop that - we discuss these thing always in a civil manner. No arguing!
  25. he really does look very slow. he doesn't pass my eye test with respect gold glove status - stats don't lie though - LOL
