  1. i like that expression "relief ace" much better than "closer". Closer implies only one time that you can actually use a guy. JF takes these things very literally I think.
  2. It's too wet and slippery. We don't want them to get hurt. lol
  3. i really think that the whole concept of specialization in baseball has gotten too big. I particularly hate the fact that we see it with respect to relief pitchers. set up men - 8th inning specialists - closers. Pigeon holed and stereotyped . Win the game! You have to understand though that I am one of those advocates for your best players making the team regardless of what their options might be.
  4. Believe it or not (you can), i think that we are on the same page here.
  5. my bet tonight = no incident. We looked stupid coming out of Baltimore trying to make some kind of a statement. i have felt that there have been and still are leadership issues with this team.
  6. I would like to think that I had some evidence to backup my stance but i don't. I think that it is likely that rutledge and hernandez would be a wash at third base and I would bet on hernandez being a better hitter than Rutledge from either side of the plate. Just a better ballplayer in general. All that being said, I think Sandoval still gets a chance. He has the potential to hit the ball over the fence rarely perhaps but at least every now and then. That is one thing that he has going for him and it is something that this team needs.
  7. Curious about which would be more unusual, a homerun or the mistakes made by the Cubs? If I was presented with a choice, I would prefer that rare homer as opposed to banking on our opponents throwing away the game. I'm not disappointed, a win is a win but it is going to take a much better blend of hitting to win a title.
  8. scoring machine back in the day
  9. Rutledge does not fit. Use him to give Hernandez a break now and then. I would much prefer to see what Hernandez can really do against both righties and lefties as opposed to platooning strictly. Regardless of what the stats say. Old school right.
  10. it's all good that so many people are finding ways to enjoy the game theses days. Seems to be a statistic for virtually everything. Personally a lot of overdose and redundancy for me - not a criticism so don't go unhinged on me. To be a championship team usually it takes a good blend of everything to get it done. if everybody is back and healthy with respect to our pitching, we very well might be good enough but if everybody does not return we will need some power help in the middle of that lineup. Based on what I have seen so far, I'm really not overjoyed by Moreland's play at first base either. Hanley "looked" better last year.
  11. Just kidding - Although I am not and have never been snarky, I do know what the word means.
  12. wtf is snarky anyway. I'm thinking that when it has been used in reference to me that it is not a compliment. i don't like a snarky.
  13. Not where I am but I kind of wish they would.
  14. oh stop that - we discuss these thing always in a civil manner. No arguing!
  15. he really does look very slow. he doesn't pass my eye test with respect gold glove status - stats don't lie though - LOL
  16. My Canadian friend Cameron grew up watching Mr. Orr play the game. In his opinion there is absolutely no question who the greatest of all time was - Bobby Orr.
  17. Ok Jad - I'm liking it now. Most of us can live in two worlds. good job - gets the proverbial touche from me!!!
  18. That's what we mean - bustin it
  19. I met a number of Canadians from Ontario this winter. Great people that became good friends. i had no idea how important hockey was to Canada. thought we were enthusiastic about our games but we don't have anything on the Canadians. The consensus among them was though that John Gibbons is a joke and should be gone.
  20. so did Dick Radatz for me fellow starto guy. i always felt a little guilty doing it though.
  21. There is one helluva difference between being concerned and disappointed and being in panic mode. There is a middle ground and really that is where I hear most of the disgruntled folks are living - including me.
  22. Wilt wasn't really good from the lime no matter how he shot them. He still stands as one the greatest bb players and athletes of all time though.
  23. You nasty little thing. Couldn't you have said it with a little more of your literary flair?
  24. for the record no as much as I like travis, he ain't what I am talking about as a power threat.
  25. Clearly not the big dipper Wilt - although he was one of the greatest of all time. Mr. Barry could do it for sure.
