  1. You better be careful, your thinking smacks of common sense.LOL
  2. yes I do know the answer to that - it is a rocky path that won't end well ultimately for the good middle class citizen of our state.
  3. It is a great philosophical debate for sure but being one who isn't particularly philosophical - What would the picture look like if Kimbrel was not currently on our roster? That particular one was worth it.
  4. What would we look like if we did not have him right now?
  5. If Price comes back and is healthy, he still will pitch the equivalent of what should be a regular season's work. Assuming the Sox get to the second season - which really does seem to add enough innings to seem like a mini second season.
  6. When it comes to the Kimbrels, I think that it is different.
  7. I would for sure. i would think that most teams would. As for our team, what do you think? think JF will give us the old - extra rest - keeping them fresh- don't want to over work anyone this early - it's a long season don't get concerned about outcomes right now - ... speeches?
  8. Absolute truth - you and I come from a state that wants to raise our minimum starting teacher's salaries to 40,000 (1/3 jump). Absolutely a good thing to do. Where is the $ going to come from?
  9. Aint that the truth and boy do we live in a crazzzy world.
  10. What do those little yellow circley things mean and how do you do that bold thing anyway? i might be able to get a little snarky(lol) if I learn how to pick and choose little things that I read from other people's postings. remember that I'm one of the guys here who isn't all that sharp. have trouble with big words and understanding advanced metrics. i'm just fooling around - it is a rainy day (as it has been since the middle of April) and i am bored. You have a great Mother's Day!
  11. i do agree with you in general that spending a lot of money and prospects as well really isn't very effective in terms of using your resources. We are seeing some of the "what can happens if you do" for sure right now. i have to say though that when it works - Kimbrel- it can look pretty good. With the way our current team is performing, he looks to be about as valuable as anyone that we have.
  12. I agree that relief pitchers in general are in fact basically failed starters but finding and identifying one that can serve as one of the very best closers in the game is not easy to do. Finding relief pitchers in general for sure. Keep throwing them at the wall so to speak. the deal for Kimrel just looks outstanding to me at this point in time. you have a team that is struggling to score for sure. No one really knows whether they will produce runs as they have in the past regardless of what any data indicates. Having that special one at the back of the bullpen who for the most part (as in all the time this year) has made the trade of Margot and others for him seem really worth it to me. Maybe DD just got lucky but without him in that bullpen we would likely be more even more unhappy than we are right now.
  13. I think that you are right. i hope that it doesn't turn out badly for Devers if in fact he is just not ready. Suspect Chavis will soon start to move up through the system as well. The contingency plan for what to do if Sandoval didn't do was weak and I'm sure that they were uncomfortable putting that much faith in a successful Pablo return. Like most here, i really wanted them to resign Beltre when they could have (should have - thanks whoever the gm was at the time) but I would not trade anyone that might make an impact for us for him now. Got to look ahead not behind. Sandoval will likely get one more shot but it won't surprise me if he is gone before this season ends. One way or another.
  14. thank you - i know exactly what you mean. Those were the facts about Moncada that everyone saw or certainly had a chance to see though. i know that there were people who were very critical of his K rate when he got the call up. It should have come as no surprise at all. I still fully expect this kid to be a major impact player.
  15. Maybe I'm stupid. I know what peripheral and superficial mean. i've actually used the words myself. What Moncada has done at the minor league level is in fact what he did. 0 superficial about it. He is not doing too badly recently either. He still projects as a potential all-star. it is not fair to compare him with Benintendi for sure. It looks as though Benintendi was ahead of him in terms of development as he should have been. I'm as happy as hell that we have Sale but that in no way diminishes the impact that this young man may have someday. that being said, I wish that we had a few players currently on our team that at least as physically impressive as Moncada does.
  16. With respect to keeping Devers over Moncada, i don't think that they were really looking that far ahead. Substitute Devers for Moncada and I'm pretty sure Sale does not come to Boston. No one really had a thought of Devers potentially being in Boston this summer.
  17. What do you mean by Moncada's superficial numbers?
  18. Let me just say again as I have said before. - he is going to be good but he ain't no Freddie lynn. Anyone who thinks that there really is any comparison never saw Lynn play. it is possible i suppose that people have just forgotten how big and how smooth he really was. Beni is his own guy and i hope that he has a wonderful career but really is there another Fred Lynn that I don't know about? if you want to just state a stat line fine i guess.
  19. Sounds like it goes against your overall philosophy. i think that flexibility is very important when you are building a team as well. i don't think that there is any one right way to do it. Kimbrel for Margot and fillers I think still looks pretty good.
  20. Too many people are using our third base problems as "the problem" that if solved everything would be just great. It is a big problem but it sure isn't the only one. In general, the defense has been poor, base running pathetic, and the hitting for the most part non-existent. They might be playing at their appropriate level which is just one tads worth better than .500.
  21. i don't feel as though the deal for Kimbrel alone stripped the farm of anything of great significance. I think that you are right that that is how some people look at it though. Depth is of course important, but it looks great in hindsight. The way I look at this particular deal is that we have a closer who every team in baseball would love to have. It is kind of too bad that he is playing for such an overrated bunch.
  22. Why do you think that we overpaid for him?
  23. Pena, Manny, Hanley! They have all made me chuckle but not for the right reasons out there in left.
  24. Could be for sure. Get Smith and Thornburg back and the bullpen looks good too. They still will have to hit some as well. i'm just not as convinced as some that this offense will be fine with time. I'm all out of Moreland love and I am not sure what Hanley's gig is. What I see right now are a lot of potentially good hitters with really not a lot of pop. I like some real game changing pop in the lineup.
