  1. Not to mention the fact that he is pretty good baseball player. If the Sox go after Moose, my guess would be that they aren't really thinking about the progression of Devers going forward. He isn't the guy you go after to fill in for a minor leaguer that you hope might be good someday. He would be our third baseman.
  2. Had a hunch - i'm ok with it too.
  3. Maybe he could be a 7th and an 8th inning guy. How about a pre-closer guy who can get the job done as needed. Maybe some games he pitches just in the 7th and some days the 8th. Kelly looks like he could be that guy.
  4. I think that it would make a great talksox story though if Devers was packaged up and traded for Moustakas and then Moustakas was signed for 3 or 4 years to play third base for us. Oh boy oh boy - Lets go trader DD!
  5. I might go after Moustakas myself to be honest with you. But I would do it with every intention of signing him up for a few years. Devers would most likely be gone though. I hear you loud and clear about the need to upgrade pretty soon. i just don't want to see us shoot ourselves in the foot in the process.
  6. agree
  7. So what are you giving up to sign one of those guys? Doubt if you get Moustakas for nothing. You sign him, where does that leave the potential time table for Devers? Our third base situation looks pathetic right now, but we continue to get by.
  8. I don't understand why anyone would consider giving up anything in a trade for a minor upgrade at third until they really have given Devers a shot. We are getting by.
  9. I'm going to give in on this one - inside my little mind, i would have liked to see something happen when they found out about the injury. I agree
  10. I don't like Maddon. I don't tend to like people that appear to be like him - self important. Once again though, I don't know him. His players seem to like him and play hard for him. The group that hired him in Chicago have on occasion proven that they know what they are doing also. He might be one of those guys that we would love if he was on our side.
  11. the trade for Pomeranz made perfect sense when it occurred and continues to look better and better with every pitch Pomeranz throws. Drafting pitchers is always risky. Drafting them when they are teenagers is more so. This trade can't be really assessed until Espinoza makes someting of appearance at a higher level than he was at before his injuries. Pomeranz will never be in the ace category - most people never thought he would. A solid number 3, maybe a number 2. Espinoza - who knows? Is he throwing again yet?
  12. It is personal for me I guess. It is something that I just don't like. I'm ok with higher expectations for your starters and letting the flow of every game dictate how long any relief pitcher is used. If your 7th inning guy, let's just say Kelly is unhittable during his 7th inning of work, I don't have a problem yarding him out there for a little more even if it means he might need a little rest the next day. I do not think that the over specialization that we are seeing is making the game more enjoyable.
  13. This is pretty much how it looks to me. Sometimes a slight variation but it seems that come hell or high water this is the way it is going to be. I get it with the closer coming in last but designating 7th and 8th inning specialists is too much of a stretch for me. It is the script though and we have to stay on script.
  14. One of the things that I have seen from JF over the years, is that when he decides to give players a rest, it tends to be him resting most of them at the same time. It almost looks as though once you have won two out of three games in a series, resting time occurs on the third day. I also think that a reliance on certain relief pitchers for specific innings gets over worked. I get it with a closer but after that maybe some adjusting would be good. Probably just me but I think I do see a pattern here.
  15. That is pretty much how I feel about him. Game situations sometimes call for a little creativity.
  16. Just my little rant about the way it looks to me that he tends do do things. it all looks very scripted to me. Rarely varying from pitch counts, certain pitchers always it seems for certain innings. It all just looks so very predictable. I think that he is constantly trying to do what looks to be safe. It may be the right approach to the game most of the time it just looks to me as though changing things up now and then is very hard for him.
  17. The more Farrell sticks to the "formula" when it comes to using his players, the more it looks to me as though a cardboard cutout of him propped up in the corner would suffice. Stick to the "formula" and you can even save some money for the owners.
  18. I have just slightly more faith of getting more effort out of Hanley than we will out of Sandoval. When things are going well, players like these guys thrive. When it gets tougher - not so much. I wonder if Hanley even wants to play.
  19. Where is Hanley? is he hurt? Kind of lost my patience with this guy too.
  20. It really looks as though the Red Sox are all but done with Sandoval. I have to think that if they actually thought that playing him for a few weeks in a row consistently would be the best situation for the club, they would do it. Really looks like he is done in Boston. This one goes down as one of our worst free agent signings for sure.
  21. Count me in on that one too
  22. That might make too much sense!
  23. I am so sick of the total over play of this platooning s*** it is making me want to start drinking. Wait - already do that. Nothing seems to be done in moderation anymore. At what age I wonder do people now think that it becomes impossible for certain players to hit from both side of the plate?
  24. I'm going to be serious here just for a second or two. I have not seen Devers play at all but what he is doing is starting to make it looks ridiculous that he is still in Portland. I get all the stuff that people are saying about as long as we are where we are in the standings - why rush him up. I get that but I still think that if he is the answer to what is going on at third then he deserves to be there - for sure at least in Pawtucket . I don't concern myself at all with the size of Sandoval's contract and I'm not too sure the front office is all that concerned about it either. They are all overpaid in my opinion for what they do. I don't care if the Sox use their collective money foolishly - I just want to watch the best team that they can put out there. If they are going to play the game of only playing him when statistical data deems it wise, there won't be any time to play him. Regardless of the company line, doesn't it kind of look as though JF really does not want him out there at all?
  25. agree - I just wish that it could be in anybody elses lineup other than ours. Advanced metrics say that he can't play in ours anyway. He can't bat against a lefty because the data says he can't do it and he can't be in the field when we have a lefty on the mound (mostly everyday) because the data says he can't do it. He just needs to be in a better situation for him. He would probably flourish!
