That is pretty much how I feel about him. Game situations sometimes call for a little creativity.

Just my little rant about the way it looks to me that he tends do do things. it all looks very scripted to me. Rarely varying from pitch counts, certain pitchers always it seems for certain innings. It all just looks so very predictable. I think that he is constantly trying to do what looks to be safe. It may be the right approach to the game most of the time it just looks to me as though changing things up now and then is very hard for him.

The more Farrell sticks to the "formula" when it comes to using his players, the more it looks to me as though a cardboard cutout of him propped up in the corner would suffice. Stick to the "formula" and you can even save some money for the owners.

I have just slightly more faith of getting more effort out of Hanley than we will out of Sandoval. When things are going well, players like these guys thrive. When it gets tougher - not so much. I wonder if Hanley even wants to play.

Where is Hanley? is he hurt? Kind of lost my patience with this guy too.

It really looks as though the Red Sox are all but done with Sandoval. I have to think that if they actually thought that playing him for a few weeks in a row consistently would be the best situation for the club, they would do it. Really looks like he is done in Boston. This one goes down as one of our worst free agent signings for sure.

I am so sick of the total over play of this platooning s*** it is making me want to start drinking. Wait - already do that. Nothing seems to be done in moderation anymore. At what age I wonder do people now think that it becomes impossible for certain players to hit from both side of the plate?

I'm going to be serious here just for a second or two. I have not seen Devers play at all but what he is doing is starting to make it looks ridiculous that he is still in Portland. I get all the stuff that people are saying about as long as we are where we are in the standings - why rush him up. I get that but I still think that if he is the answer to what is going on at third then he deserves to be there - for sure at least in Pawtucket . I don't concern myself at all with the size of Sandoval's contract and I'm not too sure the front office is all that concerned about it either. They are all overpaid in my opinion for what they do. I don't care if the Sox use their collective money foolishly - I just want to watch the best team that they can put out there. If they are going to play the game of only playing him when statistical data deems it wise, there won't be any time to play him. Regardless of the company line, doesn't it kind of look as though JF really does not want him out there at all?

agree - I just wish that it could be in anybody elses lineup other than ours. Advanced metrics say that he can't play in ours anyway. He can't bat against a lefty because the data says he can't do it and he can't be in the field when we have a lefty on the mound (mostly everyday) because the data says he can't do it. He just needs to be in a better situation for him. He would probably flourish!

You might be right. He looks at least just as athletic as anyone else on the roster. Tall, lanky, good arm = first base when not pitching. I wonder if Kimbrel could play third on the occasional day he is not scheduled to throw? As an aside - Sale looked about twice as fast on the base paths as Wright did which means that anything could happen with JF at the helm. lol

Pablo might not be the problem but Pablo not playing as expected has created the problem. Not only have we been left without his ability to field the position we also are playing without his bat. The fielding aspect of this can be dealt with the hitting part not so much. We need the productive bat greatly.

I agree with you but I have kind of resigned myself to just believing that this team is what it is. I really don't want to see them go out and make a trade for any of the guys whose names have been mentioned here. I would hate to see it but I would move Devers right on up to the big club before I would waste any single asset that we have on an average third baseman who may or may not be an upgrade over a combination of Rutledge/Marrero - God did I really just say that.

What I hope they don't start doing is pressing anymore than they already do. I just don't think that they will morph into something that they aren't. There are plenty of good solid little bats in this lineup. The problem seems to be that they might be too little. If you are getting 5 or 6 hits a night, if they are all singles, you might not be scoring enough runs to compete for a title regardless of how good your pitching is.

I'm not sure that it is scary but it is very odd. I'm happy that the team has played as well as they have but I still think that there is a great lack of power in this lineup. Coming from behind to win games becomes much more difficult when what you are sending to the plate are singles hitters for the most part. To be a real contender they need another real power bat in the lineup. They don't grow on trees and our recent luck with respect to trades makes me think that we should sit tight, take our lumps and find our own power guy. About the trades - I liked the Pomeranz for Espinoza trade when it happened and I luck it more now.

I'm thinking that you were being playfully humorous. I've been posting here for a few years now. I don't always agree with you but you have free reign to make fun of me or be critical of my comments whenever you like.

Repeat - glad we have Pomeranz and we still need the big bat (but I wouldn't give up much at all for a rental)

back to hitting (and maybe even baselining) - is Chris Sale just made differently than most of the guys we have occupying roster spots currently? Can he play first base and pitch? All they needed to do last night was to hit the ball somewhere - anywhere!

Wow - I guess third base isn't the issue people think it is either if you like this perspective. 0 problems in bean town. Hell - add one more hitter and a real third baseman - what do you think? 100,105, 110 wins - the sky is the limit.

He really has never been in particularly good shape. Good shape for him maybe but lets be real about physical fitness. He is likely to never be the face on the poster. He is very close to being gone. Unless I have misinterpreted something, Farrell has said that he will not play when we face a lefty on the mound and he is likely not to play when we have a lefty going for us. it would compound his poor work defensively. Let me see - Sale, Price, Pomeranz, E-Rod, Johnson (all lefties). He might be playing third base one day per week if he is lucky. He is taking up a roster spot for no real good reason. Only the money. He will be gone very soon one way or another.

Even though I have defended Pomeranz on many occasions, i still don't like what he has given us to date much. he might be a little soft as you say but I'm not sure that he really is much softer than E-Rod.
