  1. Sorry about that - i misunderstood your post. got it now S5!
  2. People - fans - should do themselves a favor and read hayward's letter thanking the people of Utah and to the franchise in general. Refreshing to know that there are athletes like this out there and still coming to boston!
  3. I do not believe that Longhi is in our organization any more.
  4. i'm not sure what you are basing this statement on but whatever works for you. Putting people who are most likely to drive in more runs than their teammates in positions where they are most likely to have the opportunity to do so just makes sense to me.
  5. I worry about the forgetting piece every day. i just finished a book about the Battle of Okinawa. I don't want the sacrifices made by those who fought for the future of my family to ever be forgotten. I am a proud American - God Bless you veterans!
  6. and here comes gordon hayward folks - it's a shame no free agents want to play in boston! lol Now the games really do begin!
  7. Your ideas are great and needed you traditional, old school, old young guy. young in thought I'd say for sure.
  8. This isn't really an arguement I hope. i respect the fact that people have something tangible that they can point to to emphasize their ideas and thoughts. Now that being said - It is also possible that Betts could get fewer at bats and drive in more runs. It can work both ways. If it makes someone happy that they have statistical data to support their idea, good fro them. i believe that you can find statistical data to support most things that you really feel strongly about.
  9. I appreciate everything you are saying and the way that you are saying it. if this team is winning, I honestly don't care where JF has them hitting. As a player, i liked hitting first, second, and third. It was always explained to me why I was where I was. that helped.
  10. Porcello looked more to me like the real Porcello. The play by Pedroia was one of the better ones that I have seen!
  11. Me too -
  12. It isn't - as long as we win, makes no difference to me. Teams at all levels have experimented with putting players in different spots for many many years. I find it very amusing that it is ok for him (according to the stat studiers) that it would be appropriate for him to hit first, second, or fourth, but not third. I'm not arguing with you. I'm stating my opinion.
  13. Man - you guys are good - you got it right again! Wow - You stat studiers are just too good. Out with the old I say!
  14. Hopefully trading Longhi plus a few works out for us in the long haul. It was obviously a move with a look to the future.
  15. I don't know whether Betts is more comfortable hitting first as opposed to anywhere else in the batting order. Do you? If Betts has had a discussion with his coaches and has reasons for leading off, I think that personally I like him enough so that I would listen to him. In a vacuum, when considering all things that make hitters great - very much inclusive of power and the ability to drive in runs , I would prefer to have him hit third. Leading off with what some consider to be a team's best hitter is not really a new concept.
  16. I agree - you just have to look at what you have for personnel and how they are performing.
  17. I already get this. You have said it before. I absolutely understand your reasoning as well. I'm not just being a contrarian. it is my opinion that often times even the folks doing the scouting sing the praises of some of these very young kids who probably would benefit from actually getting an education before they sign on the dotted line. I saw all of the videos I'm thinking that you saw. Too many ifs for me though. Obviously I'm not as high as some when signing kids who don't shave yet. I do hope that he becomes what many think he can become. I was happy with the trade then and I am happier now. I know that you have heard that from me as well.
  18. This i find interesting. I would not continue to post with respect to batting order but when I am told (as I have been now) that you want your best hitter either leading off, hitting second, or fourth but not third??? really! Sounds more to me like someone again wanting to argue just for the sake of arguing. If I really am alone with respect to that based upon how I determine who my best hitter is, I would bat him third, I am ok with that. Just another old antiquated view that must be wrong. He can't hit third - but 1,2 ,4 is ok! I'm just an old fool. I like your post and I really don't care where Betts hits in the lineup. I have faith in the red sox management and coaching staff. I would still bat Mookie third. I am a proud traditionalist.
  19. With respect to the Espinoza for Pomeranz trade. A teenager with basically no experience was traded for a big lefty in his 20's who had the potential to pitch like he is currently pitching for us. It was not a win now at all costs trade. I'm sorry but I saw this as a winning trade for our side not just for right now. I get the fact that many did not and do not still like this particular deal. That is ok. That's us doing the fan thing.
  20. A very good reason to follow them as they develop.
  21. Although, I will also add that I am enjoying the fact that we are winning more than where any individual hits in the lineup.
  22. yup - ok - You aren't the only person supporting the idea of leading off with Betts. i'm not alone in my opinion. Betts would be a better fit hitting third for us.
  23. No one is really disagreeing with you. I think that we all know there might be many reasons for batting Betts and others where they bat them. My contention will always be that a reliance on statistical data alone to determine what an ideal batting order should be is flawed. You want to support your idea? I'm pretty sure you can find statistics to support it. Good! No one I hope is suggesting they know more than the people in charge. We might know as much about how the actual game is played as most here though.
  24. good to see Brock Holt back in action.
