  1. 19 innings and 0 runs - gag - lightweights
  2. I really hope that we don't make a trade for a one year rental at third base. It would cost us players and for what? I just don't see a player like Frazier being able to take us anyplace that our little bunch of lightweights can't. It might make the third base situation look better for this year but how much better is the question? I don't think that much.
  3. I'm pretty sure that my memory does embellish the remembrances of my past. A few months ago I was set straight with respect to Freddie Lynn. I guess I just (miss) remember things. I like it better that way though. We are very fortunate that we saw some of the truly great players in the organization's history play and regardless of what the statistics say and regardless of how much I do like our current outfield, for me they still rank third on my all time list. For some who saw Williams and D. Dimaggio play, I bet they rank fourth. That still isn't bad but we were very fortunate to see the best play out there.
  4. I just saw some of the old footage from 67 again and I had forgotten not only how good Scott was but how good he looked for a big man. Fit and strong. and speaking of unique names, how about this one - true story. Local legend in these parts Mr. Doobey named his first born daughter Anita!
  5. I fully understand what you are saying. When I say that the franchise has no budget, I don't really mean it. I think that whatever it might be, it is clearly too high. It drives me crazy. I lived with this team through some very lean years obviously so i am not disappointed with the product that we are putting on the field but I also am not naive enough to think that the extreme amount of money being thrown at these athletes isn't the primary reason. I wish that I could honestly look at the franchise and think that we have been successful because we have been doing all of the little things that have to be done better than everyone else. I can't say that and truly that bothers me.
  6. I think that with respect to the "pride idea" here you are absolutely right. No one wants to think that we are becoming the King George led Yankees.
  7. I'm sorry Moon but when I read this concern from posters here about this team going over the "luxury" tax, I just can't help but laugh. I wonder if Henry reads this? Craig, Castillo. Sandoval, ... That is my idea of luxury! Being able to literally throw hundreds of millions of dollars away and still have a fan base that thinks you are trying to stay with any budgetary constraint. It is really funny. Most don't get their wealth by throwing it away. In some respects I actually liken it to Farrell's strict adherance to all things statistically prescribed when putting his team on the field. But, alas, I seem to be outdated.
  8. No self respecting monkey would have allowed himself to get this fat and go out in public. Whoops - Is that fat shaming? sorry King Kong maybe on our backs!
  9. Your opinion. I don't think that they wanted Lester and I just don't know about Scherzer. Your opinion and my opinion. that's it. Most people want to think that they have a legitimate budget. Good for you and everybody else who wants to think this. Throwing what 80-100 million at him to begin with and ultimately dfaing him. lol sorry not much of a budget really in my world.
  10. Yes but understand he is trying to look intelligent by following the bread crumbs the stat masters sprinkle on the ground.
  11. Can you believe these numbskull f***ing Yankees - Judge hitting third - what a joke - not 1,2,4,or 5 but 3rd! Who does that these days? Dinosaurs
  12. Really - that is interesting and it says a lot. If you are going to throw the money at basically entertainers then I guess you have to own it. It was a foolish sign I guess but who has the kind of money that can allow for someone to just say go home to someone still earning millions of dollars? I could give a s*** what fat boy does. Maybe someone else will be so stupid as to sign him. Two things that I take from this - 1. There is no f***ing budget that means anything to these guys. They throw the crap out there and if people want to believe it then so be it. The Red Sox have no real budget. 2. DD has some power possibly and he is an adult playing in fantasy land. It should be a pretty clear message to the other stiffs that were are carrying. The message being if you aren't producing then you aren't playing regardless of the size of your contract. Hanley, are you listening? Are you smart enough to actually understand?
  13. Absolutely right!!! But we are constantly reminded that the Red Sox are reluctant to spend over the luxury tax limit. They must stay within their budget. Not much of a budget if you ask me. Hanley doesn't start producing he will be the next one to go.
  14. It is beginning to look like moving Devers up is going to happen. The release of Peralta gives him a ticket to AAA. I'm just not sure that that is a far enough move up but it will do for now I guess.
  15. Just imagine what we would hear if Groome was moved for anyone. We traded a teenager for a pretty good starting ml pitcher and people are still pissed about it. I agree with the old apple and the tree for the most part. I feel kind of sorry for my own kids. I think that they need to be very vigilant with a young guy like Groome.
  16. When I was 11 (1962), playing, listening to, reading about, watching, and playing some more - baseball - that was it for me. It was really the only thing that I wanted to do. By the time '67 rolled around, sadly(wink wink) I had discovered the opposite sex and fortunately for me they had discovered me. I hung in there pretty well for that '67 season but after that, somewhat of a sporadic fan I became. That summer they did have some competition - not to mention some great stuff from the Beatles. It was a beginning and maybe even an end for me. Prior to 67, I didn't even think about where they were in the standings. It literally was all about next year. I just loved everything about the game. 67 represented a big change for me. Other things gained in importance and I started to sense that I wasn't going to get the call from the Sox anytime soon. that year and that particular season will forever represent special things for me. Some good - some bad. I have said this once or twice before but it is always nice to say it again. In all of my time, I have seen no player for the Red Sox have such an influence on a team as Yaz did in that year. It was a simpler time for me. No playoffs - you win your league on you go - you lose and home you go. Williams was the greatest hitter I ever saw but Captain Carl's 67 season has never been matched. The franchise changed in that season.
  17. Would like to see Brentz get one more chance. His power numbers are up - way up. Think he deserves one more shot.
  18. Just watched that little clip again. So many memories. I really had forgotten how fit and strong Yastrezemski had made himself. I also have just seen some highlights of Conigliaro's season before the beaning. If there has been a better young power hitting prospect in Fenway, i'm just not sure who it would have been. He had everything!!! a great tragedy. I was listening to it on the radio.
  19. What would a trade for a rent a third baseman accomplish for this team is the question that DD has to answer. My guess would be not much in the long run. Might make us feel better but if it doesn't provide the type of upgrade that will make this team significantly better in the short term, why do it? Trade no one for a rest of the year rental.
  20. Cliff Claven??? lol - I'm in Boston for the day and had to say that.
  21. Yup - you are right. Baseball is unlike the other major sports for me. I want a team that is competitive year after year. I want them to be in the hunt to make the playoffs but if they don't get a WS ring, I'm personally fine with that. They make up a big part of my summer's entertainment and just like the change of seasons I do want something to look forward to next year. 1. I am a traditionalist - i hate the current playoff system - too many teams make the playoffs - too much watered down talent -the season is too long. 2. I do not believe in the "window" theory. 3. I do not believe that the Red Sox ownership team feels the budget constraints that some here think they do. 4. When and if John Henry decides to sell this franchise, he will very much more than simply make up any money that he has to expend in luxury tax payments, foolish contracts, etc. 5. I still very much like the trade for Pomeranz 6. I would have my best overall hitter (defined by my terms) bat third 7. Outside of my closer, I probably would not have designated innings for designated pitchers. 8. In general, i don't like seeing many changes to a game that I have loved since 1956. I don't care if it appears sexy and appeals to a younger generation. I'm ok with some things not changing. 9. I think that statistical analysis is good for the game but should never be the tail wagging the dog. The guys on the field actually do know more about the game than many who seem to love the game but in fact have never really played it. 10. I am an older fan and I don't like change in general!!! lol Oh and by the way - nothing will ever top the 1967 season. Nothing.
  22. I think that you views are very reasonable here.
  23. We are on the same page. Throw in the fact that we are talking about a guy who was 27- 6'4 or 5 - is left handed and can throw it. I liked what the scouts said about Espinoza but I go with the bigger player just about all the time.
  24. Although i am a fan, i know that you don't mean me.
