  1. I agree - you just have to look at what you have for personnel and how they are performing.
  2. I already get this. You have said it before. I absolutely understand your reasoning as well. I'm not just being a contrarian. it is my opinion that often times even the folks doing the scouting sing the praises of some of these very young kids who probably would benefit from actually getting an education before they sign on the dotted line. I saw all of the videos I'm thinking that you saw. Too many ifs for me though. Obviously I'm not as high as some when signing kids who don't shave yet. I do hope that he becomes what many think he can become. I was happy with the trade then and I am happier now. I know that you have heard that from me as well.
  3. This i find interesting. I would not continue to post with respect to batting order but when I am told (as I have been now) that you want your best hitter either leading off, hitting second, or fourth but not third??? really! Sounds more to me like someone again wanting to argue just for the sake of arguing. If I really am alone with respect to that based upon how I determine who my best hitter is, I would bat him third, I am ok with that. Just another old antiquated view that must be wrong. He can't hit third - but 1,2 ,4 is ok! I'm just an old fool. I like your post and I really don't care where Betts hits in the lineup. I have faith in the red sox management and coaching staff. I would still bat Mookie third. I am a proud traditionalist.
  4. With respect to the Espinoza for Pomeranz trade. A teenager with basically no experience was traded for a big lefty in his 20's who had the potential to pitch like he is currently pitching for us. It was not a win now at all costs trade. I'm sorry but I saw this as a winning trade for our side not just for right now. I get the fact that many did not and do not still like this particular deal. That is ok. That's us doing the fan thing.
  5. A very good reason to follow them as they develop.
  6. Although, I will also add that I am enjoying the fact that we are winning more than where any individual hits in the lineup.
  7. yup - ok - You aren't the only person supporting the idea of leading off with Betts. i'm not alone in my opinion. Betts would be a better fit hitting third for us.
  8. No one is really disagreeing with you. I think that we all know there might be many reasons for batting Betts and others where they bat them. My contention will always be that a reliance on statistical data alone to determine what an ideal batting order should be is flawed. You want to support your idea? I'm pretty sure you can find statistics to support it. Good! No one I hope is suggesting they know more than the people in charge. We might know as much about how the actual game is played as most here though.
  9. good to see Brock Holt back in action.
  10. Good for us - seems like a lot of excitement for kids that should be juniors in high school. At what level are these young phonemes currently playing at?
  11. Why does this make so much sense for me? Pretty much the way it is . Contracts being offered aren't likely to get smaller.
  12. i could be wrong I guess because traditionally putting your best hitter (although he might not be - depends on the criteria used) in the 3 hole assumes that you other good hitters on your team. Take it back Betts should be hitting number 3.
  13. So statistical data says that it is great if you have your best rbi guy hitting either 1st or 4th but you should not have him hitting 3rd? what goes around comes around - i'm sticking with what I believe to be true no matter how outdated or traditional or whatever it might seem. Your best rbi guy hits third.
  14. It is a board that is just filled with opinions. Personally I'm no armchair wizard. I think that it is a good thing to not all share the same opinions. My opinion, which I know no one agrees with (just a joke) is that it is ridiculous to bat your primary run producers in positions where they cannot produce runs. lol
  15. i think that it is "much more urgent" then what some show the stats say. it would be one thing if we had some solid contact hitters sitting at the back of our lineup. we don't. i think that it is very important to have have your potential run producers in places where they might actually knock a few guys in.
  16. when I saw Gabon play, I absolutely loved the guy. I think that you are right about watching Chad De La Guerra too.
  17. With on most occasions, nothing coming up in front of him, wouldn't you love to see him have the opportunity to just knock a couple in. I would have in that 3rd spot for sure.
  18. Not so much for everybody. Just ask Stephen Curry. Only in America!
  19. I think that you have said this all before.
  20. I'm pretty sure that I agree with you here as well. Although I would say that if I traded for a third baseman, my thinking would be that he would be the guy doing the job for us for awhile. I'm not sure that that person is out there. i still think that as long as we are winning, that upgrade is going to come from within if it comes at all. i would still bat betts third! lol
  21. Devers stock probably is currently quite high in the eyes of many GMs, so are you suggesting in a way that trading him for a Moustakis right now would actually be better than bringing him up because he might fail. I don't think that you are advocating for that to happen but I think that you can see what I mean. Personally I would see Moustakis as an upgrade right now but I'm not sure that he is the big answer going forward. i would like to see Devers/Chavis get their shots. I don't worry too much about them being permanently scarred by the experience if things don't go so well.
  22. Question - once again - why would anyone give up anyone for a rental third baseman for a team that is currently leading their division? Doubt very much that this happens. if a trade is made, it won't be for a rental (I hope). What I really don't understand is how anyone who has been critical of DD's wheelings and dealings could even be thinking about trading any minor leaguers at all for someone to hold a job simply for the rest of this year. Giving up anyone like an Ockimey or a Larkins for a rest of the year rental would be akin to giving up many of the players DD gave has given up already - the big difference being that most were signed to multi-year contracts. I'm sorry but advocating for that sounds very hypocritical to me.
  23. I would not trade anyone for Lowrie or frazier. Look, I really think that if we were not in the position we are in , Devers would already have been moved to the big club. I don't think the organization is as enamored with the concept of patient development as we think they are. It is a luxury if you can get away with it. Regardless as to what we might see as need, as long as this team wins, third base doesn't present the problem that we see it as being. If you lead your division, and are continuing to win, why would you feel particularly pressured to do anything. I think that the message is pretty clear as well as to what might happen to Sandoval if he doesn't heal considering craig being let go. Even though I would still like to see one more bat helping us out, if we continue to win, it kind of looks as though we might be ok without it.
  24. i just went over the list of trades made since 2015 and why again do I not see any can't miss prospects on the list? Outside of organizational depth pieces, outside of Moncada and Kopech I think that most of the guys gone have already been replaced. I understand people not liking specific trades - thinking that maybe we gave up too much for a relief pitcher, or the thinking that maybe we could have gotten someone else instead of so and so but the whining about gutting the farm I just don't see. you can only have have so much mediocre duplication. Something our team has been notorious for I might add. With all that being said, I do kind of miss Shaw, but I am thinking that ultimately he was not going to be the guy holding down third for long either.
