  1. whoops sorry Bell - I'm sleepy this am - this was meant to be a response to Notin.
  2. I'm with you here!
  3. Couple questions for you Notin- Who said anything about anyone wanting DD to be fired? Who thinks that the current state of our farm system is fine? I am kind of sorry that you might think that I am being condescending if you are talking about me. Maybe I am being but what I would say is that I read these posts carefully. I just choose not to buy all of the embellished ******** that gets thrown around by people who are upset if everybody doesn't agree with them.

Obviously he is good for the game regardless of what anyone thinks about him personally. If he is back - really back- we will find out just how good this next generation is because they quite likely have never seen anyone play like this guy has played.

Pretty solid two days for a guy who has been away for a long time. That 2 iron from 260 on day one was vintage Tiger. Only one other man I ever saw could do something like that - Jack! maybe his comeback is for real this time.
  6. Excellent point and very true. It is just very simple stuborness IMO to continually bring up a thought that might or might not happen in the future and compare it to something disastrous that does on occasion occur. It is just a desire to be "right" about something for which there is no right. It has become a way for a few here to essentially complain about leadership that they don't personally agree with. I'll give these few people credit for their "fight back" but it really isn't much of a topic for the average fan I guess since no one uses this "cliff" expression. We all understand that our current farm system has been weakened and probably don't really need the daily reminders and the gross exaggeration that comes along with it. The majority of the posters here do not live in the world of hindsight and seem to understand that moves needed to be made to allow us to compete. Like the moves or not, I would say as others have that it might be time to move on but I'm pretty sure that it isn't going to happen. So - Yah baby give me some of that good old gloom and doom cliff talk!
  7. and there you have it - proof that the gd cliff exists Bel! Some was says it does so it must! lol Keep that old ball rolling.
  8. Got me! I told you I could be like that. lol
  9. oh s*** no way. Those guys we traded don't compare at all to our current prospects playing at the ml level.
  10. hmm - ok - I think that I disagree with you just because I like to win every year.
  11. Pomeranz, Kimbrel, Sale - anyone else that i might have missed? Could have kept those guys we gave up so that we could have traded them one hitter this year I guess. Nah - I'm ok with it. Can't get something for nothing these days. Anyone we have who plays on a day to day basis other than Betts would be fair game as far as I am concerned. If we had not had Pomeranz, Kimbrel, and Sale we very likely would have had a couple of mediocre years at best. Wouldn't have liked that. In my opinion this team is loaded with prospects, they just happen to be playing at the ml level currently.
  12. lol - good one - I think that I have figured it out. If we did absolutely nothing as a franchise for the next couple of years. Held a pat hand - made absolutely no moves what so ever - It would be likely that we might face this mythical cliff referred to. I think that I finally get it. Now I am starting to worry. the above post is meant to be humorous and not condescending in any way - just laugh -
  13. This is a post by someone who might know something about baseball. Try as I might, I can't conjure up my worry gnads to even think that I would be bothered if we were unable to sign any of the listed players. Probably I would like to see Sale stay and probably I would make the big play to keep Betts but as for the rest of the boys. Would not panic over losing any of them.
  14. Don't you go messing with me - could screw up my nap! lol
  15. lol - meatballs my friend meatballs!
  16. I'm really not one of those last word kind of guys but oh well: P-1 - I think that most of us think about but don't necessarily worry about what the future might hold for the team we cheer for. Suggesting that we don't or that we don't understand how trading anyone might affect a team negatively is condescending. P-2 - Most of us probably realize the value in having a plan it just isn't something that some of us see as worthy to obsess over. P-3 - I realize that I can be condescending ordinarily though it is about one of the few the things that I consider myself to be an expert in. One of which is not how to run a ml baseball franchise. Just a fan here. P-4 - I truly respect the opinion of every poster here even the ones who never agree with me. But what the hell I am a believer that when it comes to this stuff and most other things as well, there is never one right or wrong answer.
  17. Some of us might not see things the same way that you and a very few others do. It is a wonderful thing to be entitled to an opinion. You and a few others come off quite often as sounding like you are right and that there just isn't any other way to look at things. Sadly, on occasion, it does come off as sounding condescending. Personally, I'm ok with that because I am confident that the people posting here really don't know what will ultimately happen. I am just a fan. I do not believe in fictional things such as cliffs. As I have been informed on numerous occasions, I am short sighted and I just fail to see the future as it actually is. That is ok as well - I am just a fan who really doesn't claim to be an expert at really anything. What I do honestly believe is that I know as much about the actual gamel and how it is played as anyone posting here does. That is what matters to me. Starting to sound like a case of apple trees and fir trees to me. Sadly, it seems, we are taking sides.
  18. Getting to the point that you just have to add that little piece in bold type don't you think? Pretty much how I feel as well.
  19. It very well might have been. I'm not arguing that. Key for me here is the word might. I'm not pretending to know what John Henry is willing to spend nor am I pretending to know how he feels about the luxury tax. It actually really means very little to me but I am humored by how some seem to think they know just how this billionaire feels.
  20. It wasn't meant as a dig. It was stated with every intention of being easily understood. It is ok if you don't understand why I say what I say. You nor no one else who posts here has any idea what the actual budget is that the Red Sox are dealing with. I will freely admit that I don't know and pretending that I do would not be genuine.
  21. You know I am not sure that I am totally on board with how you feel and have felt about Pedroia but I am leaning in that direction. More importantly for me I guess is that I don't think that he will continue to be our best option at second base.
  22. I understand this. There will always be at least concern for what is coming in as opposed to what is going out. I just don't doubt for one second that if the "right" guy had been available last year that the Red Sox would have made a play for that guy regardless of how much squacking(sp) the few budgetary concerned members of this forum board made. When it is over, I also believe that the Sox will spend big this year too if the right fit is out there.
  23. I onderstaand your point. You have expressed it clearly on numerous occasions. It wasn't as obvious to me that resetting the luxury tax was as big a deal to JH than some here at talksox think it was or want it to be.
  24. No. That is the short answer for me. If he isn't happy coning regardless of who pays for him, it won't work. Character is a subject that doesn't get its just due here if you ask me. All things being equal, it is extremely important. I think that DD understands this. I think that he has brought people in here who want to be here and have certain qualities that aren't quantifiable. Gamers, workers, whatever even for the folks who don't think Price fits that bill, if he is healthy he will give you everything that he has on the mound. A team made up of these types of players can be quite attractive if there is some ability to go along with it. I don't know Stanton from anybody. Looks good on paper for sure but who really knows? If he really doesn't want to be in Boston, I see it as a waste of time to spend time and $ trying to lure him in. I have said it before - Boston is a city of champions and there are plenty of great athletes who truly want to play in this city in New England.
  25. The Red Sox scrimping and saving. A thought I cannot conjure - sorry. No offense but it makes no difference how much you or any of our other posters here who want us to act like Tampa or Minnesota, I will never buy into the theory that the Sox are more concerned about budget as opposed to doing what it takes to win.
