  1. I'm really not one of those last word kind of guys but oh well: P-1 - I think that most of us think about but don't necessarily worry about what the future might hold for the team we cheer for. Suggesting that we don't or that we don't understand how trading anyone might affect a team negatively is condescending. P-2 - Most of us probably realize the value in having a plan it just isn't something that some of us see as worthy to obsess over. P-3 - I realize that I can be condescending ordinarily though it is about one of the few the things that I consider myself to be an expert in. One of which is not how to run a ml baseball franchise. Just a fan here. P-4 - I truly respect the opinion of every poster here even the ones who never agree with me. But what the hell I am a believer that when it comes to this stuff and most other things as well, there is never one right or wrong answer.
  2. Some of us might not see things the same way that you and a very few others do. It is a wonderful thing to be entitled to an opinion. You and a few others come off quite often as sounding like you are right and that there just isn't any other way to look at things. Sadly, on occasion, it does come off as sounding condescending. Personally, I'm ok with that because I am confident that the people posting here really don't know what will ultimately happen. I am just a fan. I do not believe in fictional things such as cliffs. As I have been informed on numerous occasions, I am short sighted and I just fail to see the future as it actually is. That is ok as well - I am just a fan who really doesn't claim to be an expert at really anything. What I do honestly believe is that I know as much about the actual gamel and how it is played as anyone posting here does. That is what matters to me. Starting to sound like a case of apple trees and fir trees to me. Sadly, it seems, we are taking sides.
  3. Getting to the point that you just have to add that little piece in bold type don't you think? Pretty much how I feel as well.
  4. It very well might have been. I'm not arguing that. Key for me here is the word might. I'm not pretending to know what John Henry is willing to spend nor am I pretending to know how he feels about the luxury tax. It actually really means very little to me but I am humored by how some seem to think they know just how this billionaire feels.
  5. It wasn't meant as a dig. It was stated with every intention of being easily understood. It is ok if you don't understand why I say what I say. You nor no one else who posts here has any idea what the actual budget is that the Red Sox are dealing with. I will freely admit that I don't know and pretending that I do would not be genuine.
  6. You know I am not sure that I am totally on board with how you feel and have felt about Pedroia but I am leaning in that direction. More importantly for me I guess is that I don't think that he will continue to be our best option at second base.
  7. I understand this. There will always be at least concern for what is coming in as opposed to what is going out. I just don't doubt for one second that if the "right" guy had been available last year that the Red Sox would have made a play for that guy regardless of how much squacking(sp) the few budgetary concerned members of this forum board made. When it is over, I also believe that the Sox will spend big this year too if the right fit is out there.
  8. I onderstaand your point. You have expressed it clearly on numerous occasions. It wasn't as obvious to me that resetting the luxury tax was as big a deal to JH than some here at talksox think it was or want it to be.
  9. No. That is the short answer for me. If he isn't happy coning regardless of who pays for him, it won't work. Character is a subject that doesn't get its just due here if you ask me. All things being equal, it is extremely important. I think that DD understands this. I think that he has brought people in here who want to be here and have certain qualities that aren't quantifiable. Gamers, workers, whatever even for the folks who don't think Price fits that bill, if he is healthy he will give you everything that he has on the mound. A team made up of these types of players can be quite attractive if there is some ability to go along with it. I don't know Stanton from anybody. Looks good on paper for sure but who really knows? If he really doesn't want to be in Boston, I see it as a waste of time to spend time and $ trying to lure him in. I have said it before - Boston is a city of champions and there are plenty of great athletes who truly want to play in this city in New England.
  10. The Red Sox scrimping and saving. A thought I cannot conjure - sorry. No offense but it makes no difference how much you or any of our other posters here who want us to act like Tampa or Minnesota, I will never buy into the theory that the Sox are more concerned about budget as opposed to doing what it takes to win.
  11. I do have to agree with you though if I had the pick of the litter, it would be Stanton.
  12. He is going somewhere I think after what he has been told. Look on the bright side Slasher, if DD signs someone else or trades a player for someone else, it gives more bitching and hind sighting opps for everyone. lol

    Golf

Well, here we go, is Tiger back or will his back not let him be back? Regardless of how anyone might feel about his lifestyle, a strong and healthy Tiger would be good for the game. grrrrr...
  14. Yes it very much is!
  15. We can hope but I don't think that it will ever really change much here. Until I became a poster here, I have to admit I tended to forget the GM's names from time to time.
  16. Do you really give a s*** who the GM was when X,Y, and Z were signed? A year or two ago we had arguments over which GM did this and that but in this last episode it has become an obsession. Giving credit to a GM for signing the best available players in any draft and for their future development is giving them credit for doing something that with a little help a trained monkey could do. Note to world - give the credit to the work the players have put in not the general managers. I was just a teacher in the trenches so maybe that is why I think that giving much credit to the suits not getting their hands dirty is a waste. If trying to paint a pretty picture of a former GM and vilifying someone else floats your boat, I guess you get to have at it. It isn't even baseball talk in my opinion though. We have created quite a divide for ourselves haven't we. None of us here know which GM was responsible for this or that and someone of us really don't care. The current guy in charge will always be the one I am cheering for.
  17. This could be me writing this. I think possibly that a majority of Sox fans feel this way. We are not and never have been a small market team.
  18. Dave ain't done. If it becomes just about $, I really don't care what he cherry picks. The money is there. You budgetarians might not think so and you might fret and fume about not being able to resign this guy or that guy and I say good for you. If it is just about taking on his contract dollars, then the Sox are still in the game because if JH wants him badly enough, he can afford him. Plus - he can sign any of our current players that deserve to be reupped. It is not about the money but I bet he is happy knowing that so many of his Talksox followers care so much about he he spends it.
  19. I take all of my meatball comments back - I am the meatball! I would bet a great deal (figuratively ) of course that Pomeranz will win twice as many ml league games as Espinoza before it is all over.
  20. Come on Slasher - You forgot to add that while trading away a whole bunch of guys who probably never would have played for us, we got a fairly good return. I guess if we had won the east for the last couple of years and still had every "prospect" that we traded, things would be pretty good. You have to get over this Espinoza thing. I'm just kidding with you - I feel as though I have to say this because we are in our moody cycle.
  21. Celtics looked pretty pedestrian last night. Outplayed by Detroit. Drummond was a monster. Horford could not deal with him at all. I would like to see Morris play with a little more aggression to. At least with Smart when he has a bad game the effort is always there. he had a good game last night.
  22. I hear you here for sure. I still am optimistic about Price giving us good quality going forward though. I am very much opposed to giving long term contracts to any veteran over the age of 30, but rather than dwell on the down side of it, I see it differently. We are one of the few teams who appear able to do it. But I am not a fan who is going to do much more than voice my opinion briefly and than move on.
  23. How shall we ever move forward? lol
  24. Really - I just read through the posts and found them kind of humorous. There really are some of us who post here who honestly don't see it as our life's work. It is entertainment. Says here you have been a member since 2016. Baby oh baby - some of the postal feuds prior to that date were epic.
  25. What I really like about DD is that none of us meatballs here have one single clue as to what he might do. It is entirely possible that JH has given him the green light to spend any and all that he wants, budget be damned. You (we don't ) don't know. All of this conjecture and pretend is fun for sure but that really is what it is. For those of you who think that you are the brains behind what might happen because you have worked out the figures so it is pretty obvious as to what we have to spend, good luck with that. We all recognize our needs. Not some new pit of revelation. We all are probably on the same page when it comes to signing older veterans to long range contracts. Not stunning - not new. What we don't know is what is going on with DD and JH when it cones to how they feel this club can be improved and how much money it will take. They might do a lot and they might do very little as well! It is going to be interesting.
