  1. Oh baby now I get to take you back - Wally Jones, Hal Greer (one of the best), Chet the Jet Walker, Luscious Luke Jackson, and of course that big guy in the middle - can't remember his name (just kidding) . that really was one hell of a team. They were just good enough one of those years too. Great great players who could have played in any era. Except for that one little bump in the road the C's weren't bad either over that 11 or 12 year span. Havlicek did steal the ball too!
  2. If the plan is in fact to use Brentz as our 4th outfielder replacing Young, it kind of feels as though Santana might be the target DD has his eyes on. A solid first baseman.
  3. Never good to hate Moon.(lol) I thought a lot of Dandridge as well but my favorite on that team was of course "the Big O" . Another one of the greats of all time. Ange played for us. Pretty much means I loved him. I was sad to see Notre Dame get squashed by Miami!
  4. Actually I always liked Kareem. Obviously not as much as Bill but he was a great player.
  5. Any manager who isn't willing to accept helpful information of any kind, should not be managing. I know of no managers who flat out refuse the help of specialists in analytics. Some probably use analytics to a greater extent than others but that is just the way it is.
  6. It's a New England thing. Over rating our own guys. If we wait without adding, for our young guys to become stars that take us to the title, we might be waiting a long time. We have needs that have to be addressed.
  7. They play hard! Maybe that's the part that Barkley doesn't get. They might not look pretty but they are NBA players. They are all pretty good. Celtics just look like they play harder than other teams. Watching Brown develop is going to be a rea; thrill ride. Sometimes just being talented isn't enough!
  8. I like Martinez first
  9. I agree with you very much here Bell. Sadly, I think that in today's world compromise is nothing more than verbiage. In my world, it is possible to believe in the best parts of arguments for both sides. Very few people - perhaps even none - are either right or wrong 100% of the time. I'm guessing that if you can take the best of the two combined - old school/new school - you might get the right school.
  10. And that is absolutely ok.
  11. Really - you want to go this route again? Not everyone agrees that advanced analytics tell the story in its entirety. No one that I can think of discredits the use of analytics as a tool to be used. Kind of looks to me as though if you don't agree with me and my small circle than you must be wrong and just don't get it. In this on going great debate about the over or under use of analytics, there is no right and no wrong IMO.
  12. I'll say one thing that doesn't seem to be very popular with some here. I'm very happy that we have DD doing the negotiating for us. I'm really not sure I see a great advantage to a Stanton signing which might cost us something significant as opposed to a Martinez signing which costs just $. We need at least one real power bat in that lineup. Both of these guys provide it. It has 0 to do with power being popular as opposed to trying to infuse some real hit into an otherwise fairly anemic offense. It's a good thing to have lots of little singles hitters particularly when they are hitting but it should not be considered a luxury to have somebody in there with the power to knock a few of our little fellows in.
  13. C's gut out another one this afternoon. Tatum's length is a weapon. Big effort from Theis off the bench. Good to see Smart have a little bounce back. Team just keeps digging.
  14. probably right
  15. Depending on what is decided about JBJ, the team overall could see a significant improvement with Martinez out there if you get the return you would expect for JBJ.
  16. ? Really??? I would be stunned - pleasantly I guess but my guess is no.
  17. This I know but I'm still not sold on it being enough of an upgrade to warrant trading away quality as well as taking on the contract. Martinez sounds like an awesome offensive upgrade as well and we still get to trade or not for immediate upgrades. Tell me why this doesn't make sense? I like Stanton as well but I just think that there is some common sense that gets factored in here as well.
  18. I would not give up any player who could or is helping us currently if I could sign martinez for just $. If I had to trade someone in that current outfield (JBJ) in order to make room for either Stanton or Martinez, I would sign Martinez and then make a trade for someone else who could helps us somewhere else. Common sense moves not sensational moves and signings. I'm not convinced that Stanton over Martinez is a huge difference in the upgrade department.
  19. Wouldn't it just be so much easier to sign Matinez? Get your hitter and still save your save chips.
  20. After last night - who can the hornets beat? That was some nasty bb played. I wasn't sure for a while if either team wanted to win. Gut check for the C's and they survived it. Is Howard really that much of a pecker head? And how about the call late in the game when Rozier stepped out of bounds. He might not have been pushed but hands were on his back and the only way Charlotte was going to stop the clock was to foul. could not believe the no-call. 2 words - Shane larkin.
  21. kiss principle has always worked even when people get in the way and try to over complicate things!
  22. I don't have any idea how they will work out the particulars, but I will be very surprised if the hard play isn't for Martinez. Just read Bradford's article and sounds to me as though he would be just what the doctor ordered. Sign him and then figure out what to do with him as well as the others. I am not sold at all on Benintendi moving to center and trading Bradley but who knows. You want good people in that dugout. After what happened last year, we need real people who actually get it in there.
  23. Has nothing to do with a belief in a mythical coming cliff. That is reality. Pretty sure that everybody is aware that contracts come to their conclusion. Players get traded, drafts are dealt with, new contracts get signed. Do you think maybe that this reality that has always existed represents some sort of dark foreboding cliff that we hear so much about? It surely has given some a topic to talk, vent, and gripe about. That's about it .
  24. I think that those are all good arguments. You have to think that DD is looking at some of these situations in the same light to be honest. I don't even want to make a guess as to how it all will be worked out but I do think that it will get worked out.
  25. No offense here meant Moon at all but some of us truly do not believe in the cliff concept at all. We don't see the sense of urgency that you see with respect to the next few years. I don't mind being considered blind or naive or someone who is simply in denial either. If the decision is made to at some time move Devers to first base with respect to making our team better, I will be on board with that as well. Since I do not believe in the impending closing of a wnner's window, I am also Ok with him being left at third.
