  1. This is not some new revelation. Anyone who has followed the story knows that it has always been J.D's preference to play in the field. Unless DD can do a good job of stick handling the situation, Bradley has been in the trade lights for quite some time. I would hate to see him go but sign two good free agents and package him up and trade for more pitching and there you have it. Sounds easy doesn't it. I would also say that Martinez isn't the poorest fielding outfielder in the world either but I don't agree that the stats tell the whole story about Bogaerts at short either. They are both adequate or better and sometimes the trade offs with the bats are just worth it. Now - hit me with all of the statistical mumbo jumbo to show me just how wrong I am - Let's go.
  2. If he has wanted Santana that badly, he'd be here. Bigger fish for him I think.
  3. I agree as usual and I think that DD does too. He has become less desperate all of a sudden and the tune changes from of our illustrious DD questioners (dislikers). I absolutely believe that he has his fangs hooked into something that we will like in the end.
  4. Flores was a really bright shining light. A great great tragedy. The Red Sox have been very successful using the strategies that they have used for a very long time. I think that we have all bemoaned the lack of homegrown pitching but I think your comments about what has been done do help to clarify things a bit.
  5. the absolute truth!!! As for pitching wins championships - We all understand the value I hope of solid pitching and excellent defense especially up the middle. Sadly, on here, many of us who have advocated for more power in the lineup get misunderstood I think. If you absolutely could only have one and not the other, I would be all for the best pitching and defense that I could gather. The truth of it is that there has to be a compromise - Great teams tend to have both. We are not talking about a limited franchise when talking about the Red Sox.
  6. As much as I like hating on Jeter (I would have loved him in Boston though), I don't think that he is the one with the last word on all of the stupid things the Marlins might do.
  7. How much of those stinking fish does Jeter even own?
  8. Oh boy oh boy here we go. I actually agree with this old school, outdated, non intellectual, baseball way of looking at things.
  9. I think that we have to be kind of careful before we judge what Dever's future might hold for him based on what he physically looks like. Although I do agree that he doesn't look like the classic infielder looks like over there, I find it hard to imagine a guy with his body structure being that quick and that fast. He is unusually athletic. He has a rifle for an arm. His feet get tangled up with the rest of him. He was a liability for us at third for us at the end of the season but a kid - a real kid- that athletic could become an excellent fielding third baseman. It is a tough call. i'm sure glad we have him though.
  10. I will offer to wash that window (although I am inclined to agree with Dewey on Machado). Remember too that when one window closes another one opens.
  11. family secrets Notin - family secrets.
  12. Latest story out on Ohtani's elbow makes me kind of glad the sox lost out on this one. Yahoo news
  13. thanks for clarifying. that is not what i was getting from your initial comment. Silly me again, reading something into a post that just wasn't there.
  14. so it appears that DD has his sights set on Martinez - will he get him?
  15. kind of depends on how you look at it. My hope is that the clear majority of pitchers get the fact that it is about the team as opposed to the individual. that being said, if the pitcher wins kind of follows that the team does as well. I like pitchers that tend to win more than they lose. Works for the team in the long run.
  16. lol lol lol - good good good one. Since he probably is smart enough to know that he can't win on the forum boards, I'm really ok with the fact that he doesn't have to tell us everything that he thinks, is doing , and will do.
  17. I agree with all of what you said.
  18. Doesn't it kind of all boil down to wins and losses? I do understand that total wins is just an overrated stat to the advanced metric folk. Is it possible that it is still a valuable stat to the guys throwing the ball toward the hitters at the plate though?
  19. I agree with you entirely but it just doesn't work that way these days. He will be tried in the court of public opinion. That will be good enough for this ownership.
  20. Is your point the obvious one, or are you possibly suggesting something else?
  21. Pretty sure we do!
  22. Even though I got caught up in the euphoria of the signing, Sandoval looks like one of the worst deals the franchise has ever made. I'm not even sure what the allure was looking back in hindsight. A player's performance in the post season no matter how good is not reason enough to make the sign. It is a long season. I still have hope for Hanley - have to- and as for Price, if he can throw, he won't hurt us. If he is healthy, it is more than likely that he will help us. If Martinez is signed, I think that we could have a very explosive offense if things fall into place. Although I do not expect DD to stop there, it might actually be enough. Could be a wild ride with the Red Sox right in the middle of things. Not giving an inch to the Yanks!!! Also, from the sounds of things, Martinez is a great clubhouse guy and a great teammate.
  23. Hey look on the bright side- people with some good old school ways of looking at things are still tolerated for the most part. If they knew my views about the influence of social media on society in general they might chase me off though. lol
  24. Oh boy - I'll say it again though , with our current ownership, I would be very surprised if Wright returns to the Red Sox.
  25. Get it done DD - sign Martinez!
