  1. Hey, don't get me wrong though, since we already have him I was looking forward to his healthy return. I just think that anybody thinking that he is going to come out of this one ok even if suspended for a lengthy stretch, is dreaming.
  2. Your approach seems a little too negative for me. For the record, although i do like how DD goes about his business - he treats it like his not ours - I could care less who the GM is. I'm going to look forward to the spring and sitting tight and thinking that our offensive woes are going to magically heal themselves, won't make it for me.
  3. Realistically do people think that Wright has any chance of overcoming the image scrutinizing up here that he is about to experience? Not me but hey I would have traded him long ago when he was right in the middle of his best run. Knuckleballers and their swings don't suit my personality very well.
  4. I'm not sure that there is any real fix to the "problems" bad contracts create. I'm very sure that if a poll was taken as to how we fans might solve the problems that have been created, there would be so many different suggestions that it would be joke like. Signing JD Martinez to a 5 year deal might be a great deal for us and it might not.
  5. This I agree with very much. Has been a mind boggler for me how much attention has been paid to the GMs that have worked for the Sox and the constant scrutinizing of every move each of them has made. It is the actual decisions themselves that seem significant to me as opposed to who has been responsible for this and that. The Red Sox are and having been paying for some time now for lousy baseball decisions from a $ perspective. It is a damn good thing that our primary owner is a multi billionaire!
  6. Based on our current social climate, I would be very surprised if he pitches in Boston again. Court of public opinion has more clout today than the real court in some instances.
  7. Yes Virginia, there is a Santa claus! I saw that.
  8. Just heard an interview with Tim Britton and it just seems once again that common sense is coming in to play. I am a DD fan - I get that - but the biggest reason is that I believe that his primary moves just make sense to me. KISS - it still works. Britton says that Martinez to Boston makes sense for both sides and that we just are in the middle of the waiting game to really see who else might be interested. 5 years seems to be the thinking right now. As for the Moerland signing, he provides a great backup plan if Ramirez cannot get it done for us early in the season. He does not see a signing of Martinez, and Moreland, really being much of an issue with respect to playing time. If Bradley winds up being dealt, I've got to think that it will be for pitching. Signing Martinez does not mean by any means that JBJ gets moved. He also noted that with Santana being signed, they really did not want to lose out on signing Moreland. First base defense still counts. I kind of think that Sam Travis or anybody else who people might have thought might be playing some first for us next year, all will have to prove what they might be able to do before they get the chance.
  9. Nunez you mean right? He for sure didn't look like Chuck Schilling out there. (research needed or not) He actually looked as though his fielding ability was more on the Felix Mantilla plane. Mantilla could really hit though. How about Martinez's fielding ability? I think that you probably know that I do not put all of my faith into what the metrics say. I have been told that he is a terrible outfielder but just recently I read an article that led me to believe that he really wasn't that bad at all. As in average. What do you have to say?
  10. I'm all for signing Nunez as well, but I believe that if he is signed it won't be as some super sub. He will be signed to play second base for a while and perhaps longer. We are not talking Brock Holt here. The fact that Holt has been (was) able to jump out there and give us innings at a number of different positions as in almost all of them was nice (a little sarcasm there) but shouldn't be necessary. He has helped us for sure and has been a good conversation piece but I think that having one person being able to perform at an average ability level all over the diamond might just not be all that important.
  11. Moreland gives me the impression of a guy who is happy to have a great paying job. he is a good first baseman and can hit for some power. Moreland I don't think comes with the tag that he is going to play everyday. If he earns it, he might though. If ramirez comes out healthy and hitting this spring why would anyone want to just release him? Martinez bat added with Ramirez bat (if productive) will give us what we need and still allow us to pursue the pitching that everybody here seems to think that we desperately need. Moreland might or might not play a very important role on this team. Any decisions with the respect to Ramirez, I think should wait until we see what we got.
  12. I think that Fenway really changed when Papii retired an no real effort was made to replace his power.
  13. Look Moon - You can show me every statistic that can possibly be compiled it will do no good. If our players were bigger, stronger, and better, the ball certainly would clear all the fences much more often than it has lately. Saying anything else is a cop out and a concession to the concept somebody whoever that might be drafted the best guys that they could for us moving forward. They are almost to a man over rated. This makes me no less of a fan though than the people who have continually criticized and actually said that the don't like DD. I like to think of myself as a realist.
  14. Seriously - Fenway is no longer the HR hitter's park it used to be? lol I think that it has everything to do with the product that is being put out there on the field unless something dramatic has happened down there that I haven't seen. 2 years ago at Portland, it looked as though we had one guy that might have some real power on that entire team. That guy (Moncada) is no longer with us. More thought needs to be given to the types of hitters that are drafted than has been given in the past. Good little guys (which is what we are for the most part) quite often help good big guys win in any sport. It isn't the park - its the power outage.
  15. I agree with this one. I think that what to do with Hanley is secondary to getting JD signed. He will figure it out and it very well might mean keeping them all. I'm not sure anyone here has really talked about what Moreland's role might be with us for the next couple of years. I'm not even sure that it really matters to him. He is a ballplayer. I like him. He just might be one of those guys who will do what he is asked to do when he is asked to do it as well as he can.
  16. FTR - It is ok to poke fun of me! It wasn't all that long ago that my mother in law educated me with respect to the mythical irregardless word. An English minor really should have known better I guess.
  17. You calling me a weasel?
  18. You do frustrate me from time to time but you are alright. I am ok with being one who believes that lengthed is a word. I am having a tougher time buying into the greater usage of the word pleaded as opposed to pled these days anyway. lol I'm pretty sure that yes we would disagree as to what a reasonable amount of time to sign JD Martinez might be but I bet that it would be closer than you think.
  19. And anything else you happen to not personally like I would add! Jason Variety was good, maybe even very good for us but many people see him as being a whole lot better than he was. That is ok - it is what we Red Sox fans tend to do. he was the right guy at the right time.
  20. Not me - I thought he waited too long lol before bringing him up. Had to try to add the bat. I did think that he would field the position better than he did but hey Butterfield can straighten him out. Oh wait - what have I said- no Butterfield.
  21. just fooling around
  22. Tartabull made that throw from right in '67. (I think)
  23. Obviously you never saw Gary Gieger picking them for us out there in center during the early 60's.
  24. I agree with you but I am glad that Tek came along when he did. I like the word overrated. It is what most of us do as Red Sox fans.
