  1. "fiscal sanity" to a billionaire - yikes.
  2. come on what's it gonna be boy? Arizona or Boston
  3. ... and he could leap tall buildings in a single bound!
  4. I'm really not sure that I am even trying to make a point but if I were to make one it would be that in the northeast whenever I go anywhere i can see tremendous signs of wealth. Of course both sides of this spectrum get pretty well covered - I get that but I really disagree with the folks who see any big cataclysmic financial downfall on the horizon. There will continue to be ups and downs as there have always been but I don't see the clock getting turned back anytime soon. Entertainment is big business, I just wish that the entertainers would just do what they are paid to do - that's it. As for the colleges - sorry but any Division 3 school with over a billion dollars worth of endowment funds kicking around has a lot more coming in (maybe too much) then they are paying out. The rich do tend to continue to get richer.
  5. Thank you -
  6. I have a daughter that attended one of those division 3 schools. Admission, parking, and free seats should be provided based on how much it costs to attend many of these schools. Check out the endowments of some of these more prestigious div. 3 schools. Billions of dollars. I'm not sure that there are free rides anywhere.
  7. and i would also add that they are fairly rich - pretty relative I guess but ml salaries seem pretty good to me.
  8. I have said this many times here. Think about the profit JH makes if and when he sells.
  9. Should I think is the key word here for me. I don't think that many of us really understand all of the ins and outs of what it takes to run a ml franchise. I think that the short answer is yes - that is the way it works in our society. Otherwise why would anyone want to own? Business owners in general I don't think own simply for the betterment of society.
  10. In what professional sport would this not be true? If you own the team, and manage it correctly, aren't you supposed to make money? It would be another story altogether if the players were not compensated fairly but I think that they are.
  11. MVP likes to have a little fun which is never a bad thing. I grew up watching Ted and I still believe that he was the greatest hitter that I have ever seen. Great fisherman, and fighter pilot as well.
  12. Kimmi - How many years do you think a player needs to play in order to establish a meaningful mean?
  13. Really - Talksox - Red Sox forum - I missed the part about being nice to Yankee fans when I registered. lol
  14. So I could probably just say that based on their past averages it is possible and maybe even likely that guys like Bogaerts and Betts should have better years obviously depending on their health or do I have to use the new language like positive regression and stuff like that?
  15. Kind of sound like JD is willing to hold out for that sixth year. Arizona was mentioned as another suitor which makes sense.
  16. I think that most of our young core has a great deal to prove before they even come close to hitting any big payday. Betts, sure I get that. Maybe Benintendi. I just never have been enamored of all of this great young talent that we are supposed to have.
  17. nnnnnnnoooooooo Hitch - don't go there!!!!! lololololol
  18. I for one am going to be very surprised if we find out that there is any other club bidding against us.
  19. I read that piece a while back as well. I tend to agree with Kimmi on this one. My guess is that he wants more years than the sox are willing to give. He will see plenty of opportunity to play in the field for boston. Maybe not as often as he would like but he will get his chances for sure. I'm guessing that the money is there and the big issue really isn't whether he gets to play in the field everyday. I bet that it is about the years. he will be here soon.
  20. Do you think that some of what might be seen as reluctance to sign anyone to the long term might be because there just players worth it in this free agent class?
  21. I would actually be willing to bet that the Red Sox have made the best offer to date and there might not even be any others to begin with. It just seems to me as though if any other teams were actually involved in this process we would have heard some kind of chatter about it by now. Boston has proven that they have the ability to keep things out of the news when they feel the need. As for other teams - just seems strange to me that we haven't at least heard something. Lots of teams would love to have JD but the Sox might be only team that wants to pay him.
  22. I really do agree with you old-timer but things really have changed. He is going to get paid one way or the other. It will of course be grossly too much for what he does but oh well - I still hope we get him.
  23. Me too - My wife and I went to Beans today to buy some snowshoes and boots to go with them. The total cost came to more than 10% really of what one of the mathematically brightest people I have ever known made during his absolute peak earning year - my Dad! Times of changed - some for the good some for the notso. Notso - reminds me of a kid who once played f/ball for me. His last name was Smart. He was good - He was big - but his nickname speaks for itself - Notso - lol - He loved that nickname by the way.
  24. Yes it would.
  25. Oh no - poor Beni gets shipped but I think I know what you did there. With that lineup, we wouldn't even need his bat. JBJ in center is always a good thing. lol good to dream and when you do - dream big! That lineup in my dream says screw the NY Yankees!
