  1. No - are you under the impression that socialism doesn't? It is a personal preference. I'm very proud of where I am from and am happy to be here.
  2. I would call that karma for a Yankee fan. Very likely would not happen though.
  3. You bet baby - but hey, I have no pans to move to any European country.
  4. It is disgusting to many of us how much money good entertainers and entertainment in general costs but I have to say really who gets to judge that. If the demand says that that is what is out there for them, I say God bless them. Plenty of people think that teachers are overpaid as well. Who gets to judge not me. I laugh daily here when i see the people who obsess over what the supposed budget constraints are for John Henry and the Red Sox. We all get to think what we want but henry isn't printing his own. He runs a very successful business and personally I want him to spend his money trying to improve the Boston Red sox. For all of you who think that this is all going to come crashing down, good luck with that. We shall see but i doubt seriously that it happens.
  5. I have had fun reading this thread today. Not a whole lot of baseball to talk about. I guess I was one of the lucky ones - I taught for a long time and I am happy that I did. I grew up wanting to teach and coach. I'm pretty sure that I made a difference. My wife taught as well so we ultimately did ok but we for sure knew what we were getting into. Not much $ but a whole lot of really feeling like you made a difference. My choice was to teach. Could have gone in to administration and doubled my salary - no thanks. A majority of the principals that I worked for could not do my job. Degrees =jobs. I was fortunate to work for some very good dedicated people but there were plenty of dubs in there as well. I would love to see good teachers be paid better but who gets to decide who is good. Administrators? - sorry . Test scores - nope. Advanced degrees - not necessarily. As long as teacher salaries are tied to tax payer dollars it just kind of is what it is. The beauty of this country is that if you are intelligent and are willing to work, which really is the rub these days I'm afraid, then you can just about be what you want to be. I don't begrudge professional athletes one bit - it is capitalism. What I begrudge are the people who want someone elses money that they don't have to work for. My career choice was the right one for myself and my family. Great profession.
  6. good post - i kind of thought that that was the way things worked!
  7. Since everything has to be prefaced these days - here we go - I'm no Machado fan but I really think that the impressions people have of a guy like that would change dramatically if he was playing for us.
  8. If he has a better offer than 5 and 125-150 then he should by all means take it for sure. Now we know what the sox have offered in terms of years but the $ figure remains a mystery. If Boras is in fact working for his client, he will pass on other offers to him as well as to the Red Sox. He knows I think that if they want to the Sox can match any offer out there. I hope that a limit and a deadline have both been set.
  9. I agree with you with respect to how you feel about Machado. I also agree with SS too. The but for me is that I'm not sure that currently we don't already have a few punks playing for us. If we were able to sign Martinez, I would trade Bogaerts and a couple of prospects for him even if it was just for one year. If it worked out, try to sign him. if it didn't so be it. Losing Bogaerts doesn't concern me all that much. As for the prospects - oh well. Part of my feeling this way is that I am absolutely positive that the Yankees would s*** themselves if they thought they had to face that potential lineup when they play. The Sox could then market their new revenue creator - Dirty Dave's special hemorrhoidal cream - Yankee fans would pay a premium for it. They would need it.
  10. I would go as high as 150 but that would be it. 5 years max - like you old-timer, I would set a deadline date as well. I guess the good news is that DD might be doing exactly what we are thinking.
  11. DD is going to get lambasted for whatever he does. GMs tend to. With Hosmer off the table, I would agree with Oldtimer, give Boras a number with a deadline attached and if he is offended by that so be it. He would likely wind up playing somewhere else for less than what the Sox would pay. If DD had acted earlier, we would have had to sift through the pages of whatever he did being done in panic mode. He is a tough negoiator and and now people seem worried and upset by his lack of moves. Also for what it is worth, if JD signs here it would not bother me one bit if the Machado trade was then made even if there was no guarantee that he would be with us after one season. I don't like Machado but I do like his game. I think Bogaerts would be easy to replace this year, next year, or next next year.
  12. blah blah blah - The trade for Machado of course is likely not to happen but your responses expose a typical Yankee fan fear. It is unlikely but with DD you know that it could and boy would those two signings alter the balance of power.
  13. You are killing my dreams Moon!
  14. I think that you are over talking this! If a lowly little fan like me has thought of this possiblity, I'm betting DD has as well. I'd take that lineup against anything that comes out of Yankee stadium.
  15. Now I don't know you but even though you spend a good deal of time on this site, I still think that you might be a decent person. I don't like the Yankees just so you know and boy would this be a nut shot to them.
  16. Let's see - billionaire. Now I'm not one of those but I do get the difference between millions and billions. You are starting to quake aren't you? Let's go - all in here.
  17. Well isn't this just a nice discussion about our park being a hr hitter's paradise or not. Sorry guys but it is pain in the ass time. I have been duly educated this year with respect to how insignificant the homerun ball really is. LOL - Don't you all get it - if you have enough punch and judies you just don't need that big bopper. You put the guys who can lay the lumber out there and they will make Fenway look like a power hitter's paradise as they have in the past. Makes no difference which side of the plate the hit from.
  18. I'm dreaming I'm sure - but - can you imagine a lineup that has J.D. Martinez, Machado, and a healthy Ramirez in it? It actually could happen. That would be enough to make any self respecting Yankee fan throw up their morning chow. Wether you like it or not, that would be one hell of a lineup.
  19. I think that that looks pretty good!
  20. good to have another voice - have fun
  21. Now we are talking.
  22. barrels per plate appearance - lol Give me more - I've learned all kinds of things over the course of the last 24 hours. One of which is even that advanced metrics can be somewhat subjective depending on who's model you choose to use. Something that most of us already knew for sure. When used the right the way they obviously are a necessary tool, when not - not so much. But now barrels per PA?
  23. That's why the Red Sox interest according to most reports is just lukewarm.
  24. I would be very surprised if this signing happened. it doesn't seem to make any sense to me at all. SS for one is not an area of need. A power bat is of course but signing Machado just doesn't make it for me.
  25. it is laughable. it's why I just enjoy watching the game and will continue to formulate my own opinions and express them.
