  1. That would potentially be an incredibly power filled lineup. I'm going all in though. Martinez in left - Benintendi in center - Betts in right.
  2. I think that if we signed Martinez that there would be plenty of time to negotiate with him. The way I look at it the Sox will be competing financially next year for one of the big timers anyway so yup I would be ok with out having an extended contract waiting for him to sign. Obviously, I think that he is quite an upgrade over Bogaerts even if it is for just one year. Bogaerts is replaceable imo whether it is by signing Machado or someone else.
  3. I don't think that it would be imperative to sign him to an extension early.
  4. oh no - You have been prolific this off season. I don't blame you necessarily and maybe it just feels like you have been. not a bad thing.
  5. If the Sox were to sign both Martinez and Machado we would be hearing a lot less from our illustrious Yankee fan. Now, if the Yankees were to sign Machado and we stood pat you would be hearing a lot less from me. Might not be a bad thing! lol
  6. It might not be the most important thing to think about but from everything that I have read Martinez is very good teammate. Couple that with the fact that he is an incredibly hard worker and I guess that is worth something. I would love to see him in boston but I still think that 5 years is long enough.
  7. On we go Hitch. Thanks for the e-fellatio comment but I really did kind of chuckle when I read it. I am so damned bored right now and believe me I know how I can be when I'm bored. As for the other two guys suggesting that we end the discussion - good for them. There isn't much to talk about these days I guess I would say and anyone who chooses can simply feel free to skip right over my posts.
  8. We should don't you think? Oh well it is just something to do.
  9. Sorry Hitch - forgot to include the quote there but I guess you probably figured out that I was talking to you.
  10. I do not know you at all so nothing you say is particularly going to offend me. I think that we all tend to draw conclusions as to what types of people we are dealing with based upon what they write. You see me as patronizing and passive aggressive. I don't think that you are being particularly truthful when you say that you are open to changing your mind. My guess is that your mind is already made up with respect to most things thus the no middle ground comment. As for my support of a700 - not always but most of the time. I have talked to him once or twice and he strikes me as someone I might have something in common with. I'm ok with that.
  11. like I said - wowzers - Passive aggressive and e-fellatio really. Thought that even you might be above stuff like that. Guess not huh. I'll cop to the passive aggressive comment although I'm really not simply passive aggressive. I have lots of faults. The e-fellatio comment was offensive though. Don't think that that was called for. But anyway kind of good to see that someone who tries so hard to come off as being intellectual isn't afraid to dig right down into the mud hole now and then. Good for you. As for you question about how your comments are so much like I see in print today. You leave no room for any middle ground and I am a compromiser.
  12. Wowzers - didn't expect this. Guess you didn't ignore my comments entirely. I'm pretty sure that since you are filled with brilliance that you know exactly what I mean.
  13. I saw the post somewhere else before Moon posted it so I'm not giving him humor points for that. lol Now if he was a fan of another team say our illustrious Yankee and Mariners fan - that would have been different.
  14. I'm pretty bored up here right now so this is good entertainment for me. I follow your discussions with Kimmi quite closely because although you quite often disagree there really is no twisting and turning with respect to the way you present your arguments. I think that you both make solid defensible posts. Have to say though that Hitch's comments are like so many we see coming out in print today. Him trying to trap you of all people by wordsmithing is hilarious. Good luck to him - he stands no chance.
  15. I think that you are right about - sometimes the best moves are the ones that are never made. In this case though, I'm kind of wavering on a hard deadline being set. I think that we need a bat in that lineup that badly. A couple of years ago, I wanted them to go after Cruz and last year Encarnarcion. I really thought that he was coming. Barring at trade, looks to me like Martinez is a good fit for us moving on. My guess is that the communication lines will stay open until we have him. I really am not optimistic that our team at present will produce the runs it is going to take to win big. I do hope that all the guys who had down years last year bounce back heartily - I just don't take it for granted that they will.
  16. I would not go beyond 5 years. Once again, somewhere between or at 125-150.
  17. I am certainly with the majority here in my thinking that that offense needs the big bat. Where I might differ from some I guess is that the number of years is a lot more important than the money it takes. I don 't think I would go beyond the five year deal but the $ figure just is not all that important. Something between 125 and 150.
  18. Moon is going to be loving some a700 for mentioning that c____f word. lol
  19. I'm not trying to horn in on your discussion but doesn't it kind of depend on what your personal feelings might be about the team moving forward? If you truly think that they are a 93+ win team as presently constructed then sure it would seem in my opinion to be foolish to add on any contract that might seem restrictive to us later on. I don't think that we are. Thus I think that we need to add a run producing bat to our lineup that will allow us to make the playoffs and possibly advance - Maybe even two good bats!
  20. Absolutely the truth. People that we might think are true slimeballs exist in all walks of life. It certainly isn't an exclusive club for the rich and famous.
  21. You are above 0??? You Canadians get all the breaks !!! -10 here.
  22. keeps us all going during the deep freeze!
  23. I would like to know as well but in a way I think that it is a good thing that I don't. Like you, I absolutely believe that he has multiple plans. The suggestions that come from the fan base over the internet are literally all over the place. I bet he understands pretty well that some are going to be upset and some are going to be happy with what gets done. I really hope that other than making use of his cell phone he doesn't go near the net. More opinions (both good and bad) get expressed these days than ever before.
  24. I think I will take the optimistic route on this one. Management has to know that standing pat going in to this season likely won't make it. Some think that in ways this team under achieved last year. I don't. I think that they actually over achieved - won a lot of close games that surprised me for sure. At least one big headliner is going to be signed. Maybe even two.
  25. I really hope that DD holds the line at 5 years. The money I don't think is much of an issue. The Red Sox I imagine can more than hold their own against rival bidders. If Boras goes directly to ownership and the deal becomes more than 5 - oh well. Ultimately I guess it would be JH who makes the call. He knows that bringing in Martinez will help to invigorate the fan base.
