  1. I think that most of our young core has a great deal to prove before they even come close to hitting any big payday. Betts, sure I get that. Maybe Benintendi. I just never have been enamored of all of this great young talent that we are supposed to have.
  2. nnnnnnnoooooooo Hitch - don't go there!!!!! lololololol
  3. I for one am going to be very surprised if we find out that there is any other club bidding against us.
  4. I read that piece a while back as well. I tend to agree with Kimmi on this one. My guess is that he wants more years than the sox are willing to give. He will see plenty of opportunity to play in the field for boston. Maybe not as often as he would like but he will get his chances for sure. I'm guessing that the money is there and the big issue really isn't whether he gets to play in the field everyday. I bet that it is about the years. he will be here soon.
  5. Do you think that some of what might be seen as reluctance to sign anyone to the long term might be because there just players worth it in this free agent class?
  6. I would actually be willing to bet that the Red Sox have made the best offer to date and there might not even be any others to begin with. It just seems to me as though if any other teams were actually involved in this process we would have heard some kind of chatter about it by now. Boston has proven that they have the ability to keep things out of the news when they feel the need. As for other teams - just seems strange to me that we haven't at least heard something. Lots of teams would love to have JD but the Sox might be only team that wants to pay him.
  7. I really do agree with you old-timer but things really have changed. He is going to get paid one way or the other. It will of course be grossly too much for what he does but oh well - I still hope we get him.
  8. Me too - My wife and I went to Beans today to buy some snowshoes and boots to go with them. The total cost came to more than 10% really of what one of the mathematically brightest people I have ever known made during his absolute peak earning year - my Dad! Times of changed - some for the good some for the notso. Notso - reminds me of a kid who once played f/ball for me. His last name was Smart. He was good - He was big - but his nickname speaks for itself - Notso - lol - He loved that nickname by the way.
  9. Yes it would.
  10. Oh no - poor Beni gets shipped but I think I know what you did there. With that lineup, we wouldn't even need his bat. JBJ in center is always a good thing. lol good to dream and when you do - dream big! That lineup in my dream says screw the NY Yankees!
  11. That would potentially be an incredibly power filled lineup. I'm going all in though. Martinez in left - Benintendi in center - Betts in right.
  12. I think that if we signed Martinez that there would be plenty of time to negotiate with him. The way I look at it the Sox will be competing financially next year for one of the big timers anyway so yup I would be ok with out having an extended contract waiting for him to sign. Obviously, I think that he is quite an upgrade over Bogaerts even if it is for just one year. Bogaerts is replaceable imo whether it is by signing Machado or someone else.
  13. I don't think that it would be imperative to sign him to an extension early.
  14. oh no - You have been prolific this off season. I don't blame you necessarily and maybe it just feels like you have been. not a bad thing.
  15. If the Sox were to sign both Martinez and Machado we would be hearing a lot less from our illustrious Yankee fan. Now, if the Yankees were to sign Machado and we stood pat you would be hearing a lot less from me. Might not be a bad thing! lol
  16. It might not be the most important thing to think about but from everything that I have read Martinez is very good teammate. Couple that with the fact that he is an incredibly hard worker and I guess that is worth something. I would love to see him in boston but I still think that 5 years is long enough.
  17. On we go Hitch. Thanks for the e-fellatio comment but I really did kind of chuckle when I read it. I am so damned bored right now and believe me I know how I can be when I'm bored. As for the other two guys suggesting that we end the discussion - good for them. There isn't much to talk about these days I guess I would say and anyone who chooses can simply feel free to skip right over my posts.
  18. We should don't you think? Oh well it is just something to do.
  19. Sorry Hitch - forgot to include the quote there but I guess you probably figured out that I was talking to you.
  20. I do not know you at all so nothing you say is particularly going to offend me. I think that we all tend to draw conclusions as to what types of people we are dealing with based upon what they write. You see me as patronizing and passive aggressive. I don't think that you are being particularly truthful when you say that you are open to changing your mind. My guess is that your mind is already made up with respect to most things thus the no middle ground comment. As for my support of a700 - not always but most of the time. I have talked to him once or twice and he strikes me as someone I might have something in common with. I'm ok with that.
  21. like I said - wowzers - Passive aggressive and e-fellatio really. Thought that even you might be above stuff like that. Guess not huh. I'll cop to the passive aggressive comment although I'm really not simply passive aggressive. I have lots of faults. The e-fellatio comment was offensive though. Don't think that that was called for. But anyway kind of good to see that someone who tries so hard to come off as being intellectual isn't afraid to dig right down into the mud hole now and then. Good for you. As for you question about how your comments are so much like I see in print today. You leave no room for any middle ground and I am a compromiser.
  22. Wowzers - didn't expect this. Guess you didn't ignore my comments entirely. I'm pretty sure that since you are filled with brilliance that you know exactly what I mean.
  23. I saw the post somewhere else before Moon posted it so I'm not giving him humor points for that. lol Now if he was a fan of another team say our illustrious Yankee and Mariners fan - that would have been different.
  24. I'm pretty bored up here right now so this is good entertainment for me. I follow your discussions with Kimmi quite closely because although you quite often disagree there really is no twisting and turning with respect to the way you present your arguments. I think that you both make solid defensible posts. Have to say though that Hitch's comments are like so many we see coming out in print today. Him trying to trap you of all people by wordsmithing is hilarious. Good luck to him - he stands no chance.
  25. I think that you are right about - sometimes the best moves are the ones that are never made. In this case though, I'm kind of wavering on a hard deadline being set. I think that we need a bat in that lineup that badly. A couple of years ago, I wanted them to go after Cruz and last year Encarnarcion. I really thought that he was coming. Barring at trade, looks to me like Martinez is a good fit for us moving on. My guess is that the communication lines will stay open until we have him. I really am not optimistic that our team at present will produce the runs it is going to take to win big. I do hope that all the guys who had down years last year bounce back heartily - I just don't take it for granted that they will.
