  1. Porcello's bounce back should make him an effective number 3 starter.
  2. This is pretty much the way it worked, will work, and has always worked. One thing more for me is that I expect a very good year out of Price. If he stays healthy, having Sale and Price leading that staff is what we have all expected should and would happen.
  3. That is my take on things as well. I know that this a tough crowd to say this in but here goes - I'd rather lose with good, honest, hard working guys as opposed to win with a bunch of dinks. Inevitably, those links will let you down.
  4. I think the key word here is should.
  5. This I agree with very much. I'm not sure where the fault lies if anyone is even at fault. I think that living in an age of information overload is as much a problem as anything. The guts of the game have not changed. I hope that they can block out all of the distractions which of course includes social media.
  6. There were a number of the boys who had poorer years last year for whatever the reasons might be. I'm a one year at a time kind of guy. I think that it is great to have lofty expectations but until I see something different, they are what they are. We'll have to take what comes. It is still possible and seems likely even to me that some of these players just aren't as good as some think that they are. You add Nunez and Devers to the mix and a little life got injected into the group. Having Nunez back if healthy and a signing of Martinez might make all of these guys appear better. One thing I do hope for is that our players don't drool over what the analytics are saying with respect to how they should be playing. It is ok for us I guess, but for them I kind of hope that they just go out and play the game as well as they can. If they do, I think that we will be just fine. Block out all of the distractions and just play the game.
  7. that would be a waste of time -
  8. I think that you are right and for the record I'm not hearing many people really suggesting that if we sign Martinez then we need to keep Brentz. The story of Brentz and Barfield is a good story. If JD Martinez is not signed, I would hope that the Sox would find a way to both of these guys one way or another. I'm not suggesting that they both make the ml roster either. But when you need power throwing either one of these guys away just doesn't make much sense to me. Holt, Marrero, and maybe even Hernandez (who I think if healthy will make the roster) might be gone.
  9. I haven't read a thing about the players being too focused on their everyday stats. I'm sure that we agree that that is not a good thing. I'm really thinking that regardless of how much help the information age might provide, too much information can be a bad thing. I want these guys to just play and forget how everyone else suggests that they should be playing.
  10. It's just so belittling don't you think? lol
  11. What are you trying to say notin that you think I said? You now are trying to be a little too shrewd. Obviously the signing of a big bat like Martinez makes a big difference. I never even insinuated the our team should keep Brentz or Barfield as opposed to a Martinez signing. I don't think that we have signed him just yet though. Maybe I missed something.
  12. I have no clue who you are talking about but I really think that you underestimate me. If there are people here who actually believed what I said about blaming the analytical minds to be for real, I will say that they need to check the wattage in their light bulbs. Does that include you? Say it's not so notin ...
  13. Oh and yes - you continue to make too much of an issue about age. If they can provide what we need better than others, is a player's age really that important to you?
  14. I don't think that it is about what anyone deserves. It is more about actually earning something to me. It certainly becomes much more important to me when there exists even a chance that a player might have something that a team dearly needs. Holt has a had a great opportunity and at times has certainly helped us but I truly believe that it is time to move on from him. I do not feel that Hernandez or Swihart really have had much of an opportunity to show us what they are capable of just yet. I still believe that there are roster spots up for grabs at this time. No one gets owed anything - no one deserves something that they just don't earn.
  15. I think that you thought I was being serious there huh.
  16. I'm good withs notin. Sounds like placing the blame entirely on the department of analytical research and development to me.
  17. And notin please don't try to turn what I am saying into something that it isn't. I'm not pounding the drum thinking that either of these two guys will ever make it. I would really like to find out though.
  18. I think that you are making too much of a big deal out of the age factor. We have someone finally doing something pretty good and doing something that we really need. You are trying to convince me that this guy isn't at least worth another look ? We do not know what Brentz or Barfield might bring to the table. I'm pretty sure that unless Holt and the rest of his look alikes morph into physical specimens all of a sudden, we have a pretty good idea that they will bring something we already have in abundance. As for your comment about potential injuries, Im just assuming that you are making a joke because you do sound smarter than that. They all run this risk.
  19. I do think that the option makes a difference . In terms of simple talent and what a player might be able to give you that you are lacking, it would be Brentz for me all the way. We have plenty of guys here who if they looked like Holt they could be mistaken for him. I care not that his best efforts have come at the AAA level.
  20. With better and of course younger options (you like that) to do the very same things that Holt has done, why do you think anyone would consider keeping a light hitting Holt over someone that actually might bring something to the table that could help the team? My answer would be that people are affected by the loyalty factor here more than anything else.
  21. I'm going to hold the line on my thinking here. I think that as a team they over achieved last year. I just do not think that our position players are as good as many here believe. Since we have some youngsters, things could change for sure. 93 wins form this group in my opinion was fantastic. Speaks highly for the pitching staff more than anything else. Like you, I was not upset with Farrell being let go and it will be nice to see a fresh face in there. Maybe Alex Cora does know how to deal with younger developing players better than Farrell but if people think that that might happen simply because he is closer in age to members of this team, I think that they are wrong. I hope that it does not work against him.
  22. Mookie certainly could have been talking about himself as well as the rest of his teammates which would also include the entire coaching staff. Remember though that we have learned that as fans we don't really have a clue what is taking place in that dugout. Just a touch of sarcasm there. I'm ready to look ahead. I hope that hiring Cora will help but I really have to wait and see. I would be surprised if it did. Actually, I wonder what would have helped more - Mookie having a better year or Farrell having a better year. My vote goes to Mookie.
  23. Wait - it just came to me - maybe you are blaming Pedroia for being injured! There you go. That makes sense. He isn't much of a leader but he can certainly play.
  24. Oh - ok - sorry my mistake. You want to blame Farrell that is fine. I'm going on the side of blaming no one. I'm sure that it is hard for some people to accept but Farrell did do some good things.
  25. I'm assuming that you also mean blaming it all on Farrell is also unfair. Some here have suggested that leadership doesn't really play much of a role. If that is the case, the failure to be properly prepared for the playoffs lies directly on the shoulders of the boys making the big bucks. I know how important strong leadership is so obviously I don't believe for one minute what I just said.
