  1. Now back to spring training - I get the fact that most people don't place much importance on much that is done in spring training but when it comes to defense I think that you can learn a lot in spring training and right now without Pedroia in the lineup early our overall defense in the infield looks a lot like that of some of the teams I grew up with in the mid 60's. Other than Malzone at third, they were terrible. I really don't see Swihart catching for this team. It would not be worth the risk using him at all in a position that you can overlook the offense if the defense is outstanding. Ours right now is pretty good. I will say though that I would definitely keep this kid. I don't think that he could be any worse at any other infield position than we have there right now.
  2. It's fine. You sound like a nice person and I certainly am too sensitive. More often than not, I'm a fan of whoever the current GM might be. From a personal perspective, I think that all of the talk be it criticism or praise that has been lobbed back and for at both BC and DD is foolish. Much of it has been lobbed with a heavy dose of hind sight. Ben has been praised here for building a strong farm and for his overall philosophy. If I were to make a comment on that, it would just be formulated on educated guess work. I don't know either of them nor do I really know what their philosophies are. When it comes to GMs in general, I try to stay in the present and I will say for sure that I do like the job that DD has done. He seems intelligent, respected and aggressive. Traits I like. I'm pretty sure that someone will try to turn what I have said into a criticism of Ben Cherington. It isn't. My comments are about DD. thanks for clearing things up
  3. My comment was in response to the above statement made by you. I got the impression from what you wrote that you were kind of saying that I would never criticize a GM. Sorry you didn't understand what I wrote in my post.
  4. Couple of things - I really hope Devers can field that position . Right now not so much. I'm pulling for him. Come on kid. If we keep Sandy Leon, he will give us a better backup behind the plate than most other teams. Say what you will the man can catch. Much as I like Swihart it's going to take him a long time to get to Sandy's level as a backstop if he ever can. Sandy may even push Vazquez. It will depend on how each hits I think. Two solid catchers.
  5. Oh man Slasher good to hear from you. I know that you didn't like the Price deal but you have to admit that deal for Pomeranz sure was a beauty. Just fooling with you.
  6. Well you know what yes I have heard of Bill Belicek. For your record , I do not think that comparing DD to BB makes any sense whatsoever. A ml stretch if you will. I can tell you with great confidence that WITHOUT KNOWING ALL OF THE FACTS I would not question the person many have said is the greatest NFL coach of all time. Obviously there are plenty of people out there who are going to question everything about everything without sadly knowing anything. Oh and if you wren't comparing DD to BB, sorry I just did what you and a few others like to do. Shape other's words to suit me.
  7. I think that that is fine. I am just not sure that I rally know what the current team building philosophies are of either of these two guys.
  8. notin - seriously are you ok? I can't read much of what you have written. Obviously whatever it is it must be right I guess. I don't consider what I have said about Cherington mocking at all. In my opinion, I do not think that he was ready to lead our franchise. Now though since you brought it up, I would not criticize an acting GM of the Red Sox on this site. It is not my style. I never have nor will I. I won't question the moves made by people who have a job that I really Know nothing about. Word twisting again too tut tut. If you think that it is safe to assume based on anything that I have written that I consider myself to be a better baseball mind then Cherington, maybe it is you who needs to check the comprehension skills. Oh yeah - you have also told me that I could not understand what you have written and you are right.
  9. Do you really think that there is a human alive who would not criticize a GM for what they think is a bad decision. Once again just word play. Believe me I will criticize him when I think that he makes a truly bad decision. To date, I don't think that he has.
  10. First of all notin I kind of missed what you wrote at the end. I don't have blind faith in anyone other than immediate family members. You have a way of trying to twist the of words others for sure. I don't very often agree with you and I like the job that our GM is doing. I've told you this before as well - I will never judge our team decisions by what any other franchise does. I could care less. You are in panic mode nearing hysteria because we haven't as yet signed some over that hill dumpster dog to save the day. Just a little faith notin - you want to call it blind fine.
  11. I've said this many times. Giving any one individual credit for all draft picks whether they are good or bad makes no sense to me. You get good people to do that job for you. That is what leadership is all about. I'm not going to give one person all that much credit for building a farm system. It takes a team of talent.
  12. I think it is called loyalty. I get that.
  13. oh well - one out of two (thousand) lol
  14. you have said that before. I personally am quite pleased that we have those guys but I don't think that DD overpaid for them at all. He is better than that. The old horse trader won't get snookered by anybody. lol I think that he paid just what it took to sign them.
  15. yes we could have, yes - I'm just not as sure as you are about the strong and contending team but whatever right - I like Pomeranz, Kimbrel, and Sale. Just two different opinions I guess.
  16. Oh my God notin, I am aware of everything. You truly think that you know more about this gig than Dombrowski does don't you. You are just so full of ******** that I might have to stop communicating with you. That would just be too bad. Just so you know, I'm pretty much full of ******** too.
  17. I am a very careful reader with an IQ that probably rivals yours even notin. You spin your comments your way, I will spin mine my way. I don't agree with your opinion here. That's it. I do enjoy this back and forth with you but when you start to hit the condescension button - not so much.
  18. So it kind of sounds like you would have been ok with a little mediocrity for a few years so that we could hang on to all of our average at best to date prospects. Not me - I like winning I guess just too much!
  19. Right - You mean Johnson, Valesquez, and Elias right? I'm with you on this one.
  20. I'm sure that Castillo is enjoying his wealth. Sadly it looks as though that will be his Achilles heal as well. He just isn't worth that kind of money.
  21. That my friend is not so. Many people have been trying to compare Ben to DD on this board. With respect to your opinion as to who has been better than DD at drafting players, fine. It is your opinion but thinking that Ben Cherington was better at it than DD is lubricous - in my opinion.
  22. No answer for you there. I think that he still has 30-30 written all over him. 30 steals still means a lot to me - old school. Hope someday we get him back somehow.
  23. but dammit, his name is not Ben. lol
  24. I have no problem with you stating an opinion and trying to defend Ben and make him seem like he was a lot better than he probably was. He was a very good role player. He is probably a pretty good guy but comparing him to Dombrowski, someone who has been through it and done it all from soup to nuts, there really is no comparison. By the way, i remember when people were first starting to talk about Benintendi - it really didn't take a great talent evaluator to look at what he had done. I know that I could have screwed it up! If it had come down to either Beni or Moncada, I would have taken the better athlete - Moncada! lol I am glad for sure that we have Benintendi.
