  1. C’mon all of you Bobby D haters. How about Coach Cora’s comments about his future. Looks like any fuss over a right handed hitting backup first baseman can be put to rest
  2. My point is that in my opinion the continued addition of the wilcard(s) Cheapens the impact of the regular season.
  3. With the addition of the wild card coming in to play in general, I think that it cheapens the impact of what happens during the regular season. It's all good for sure if anyone's plan is to "make the playoffs", I just think that winning the division and being the absolute best that you can be should be the goal.
  4. Now you have crossed the line! lol
  5. Having Bichette at second base would make me forget about an error now and then. To be the best you need to have the best.
  6. Most of the "shortstops" were at one type likely - pitchers, catchers, infielders and outfielders as well. Many professional teams drool over the opportunity to draft young catchers and bring them along in the way they want them to be brought along. But lest we forget many of those "young catchers" have also been shortstops, pitchers, etc. They are the best players on the team.
  7. Trout ain't a member of the totally walking wounded just yet. He could play half the games that most play and still out produce them. Everyone wants to have "more reliable" players but calling Trout "shiny" - no thanks. I want reliable players just like you do but currently I see no one in our outfield that I wouldn't gladly give up to watch this guy play even on a somewhat limited basis. I obviously doubt it happens but I like the thinking and in all honesty I don't think people would go to see him play simply for what he has done in the past.
  8. Trying to find an available quality second baseman would be great I think. As for trading Urias, a good trade I think. Urias is as replaceable as a player can be.
  9. I thought that you would like them. Beats me saying that I'm just a cranky old bastard who doesn't want to be bugged. lol
  10. I'm not sure he would need to play 140 for me. Granted it's a lot of money for someone who has had to deal with being banged up recently. But - and yes it is a big one - It is Mike Trout. I just happen to think that the franchise has to make at least one or two deals like this just to show us that there really is going to be an effort to get things back to where they should be.
  11. I agree with you. It is a lot more fun to talk about this team possibly trying to acquire legit superstars as opposed to watching them walk away.
  12. I'm 73 - I'm Scottish - I'm from Maine. These are just a couple of reasons why you should not change my statements.
  13. I hear you.
  14. I'm a Red Sox fan not involved in ownership. If Trout came to Boston, I would go to see him play. I want legit stars out there somewhere.
  15. Dick "the dragon" Drago - God bless him. Remember him well.
  16. Sorry about that. Jerry Adair it was. In 1960 of course I was a good Pirates fan and Groat was special. Have to say though that I do like to try to remember these names without fact checking.
  17. I can see that play like it happened yesterday. Tartabull of all people. Sox picked up a lot of guys at the ends of careers who actually helped them out. Remember Dick Groat?
  18. Never could get used to seeing a crippled Orlando Cepada in a Sox uni but for me seeing the great Elston Howard playing for us in '67 was unreal.

    Playoffs

    Absolutely!
  20. Losing intentionally goes against every way that I have approached athletics since I was a kid. You'll always have people who find new and unique ways to cheat, but losing intentionally is cheating deluxe in my opinion. It makes no difference what you think you have a chance to gain from it.
  21. I do realize that you supported him.
  22. I also like this post. The labelling and pigeon holing is ridiculous but kind of goes along with the trends of the day. I guess that I should be lumped in there somewhere but I have to say that I welcomed bloom's hiring. I will likely always be a fan of the current GM. I am an obvious Dombrowski fan for sure but I would not bring his name up at all if the comparisons just ended but they don't seem to. But - hey - once again, a nice post.
  23. DD was and continues to be the type of GM who recognizes what needs to be done and gets it done. The assumption by some that he was incapable for some reason of building a competitive program from the ground up, is just plain silly. His leaving Boston was a huge loss for the city.
  24. I've tried to stay out of this because constantly trying to compare the last two GM's we have had seems silly to me. Notin appears to be obsessed with attempting to paint a negative picture of a GM who has been extremely successful. If Dave Dombrowski was still in Boston, I would be willing to bet that our team would still be relevant.
