  1. I'm really right on the same wave length as you. Although I have to say that I hope that if any free agents get signed going forward, they aren't signed simply to appease the fan base that they know might prefer watching amateur baseball as opposed to going to a very expensive place to watch a game featuring average professional baseball talent.
  2. The money and the years being offered has gone beyond ridiculous. I've said right along that there is a lot more factoring into these high profile signings than the money. These types of players apparently command so much money that a few loose millions here and there really don't matter. Moto went where he wanted to go now we'll see how the Dodgers do it. As much as I would like to think that Boston is a destination that the biggest and best stars want to be, I just don't think that that is clear thinking. I really hope that this doesn't lead to a nut brained financial decision to sign some other over rated star that just ties up any money that Jh feels that he has to spend. Maybe the red sox intend to step back and really look at where this economic market has gone. It has gone crazy - maybe they don't want to play it. I don't blame them. If there is a chance to make a reasonably sensible signing then do it. Make a few trades that might bolster what we don't have - pitching. Build it from within. It would keep my interest.
  3. I would never refuse to attempt to answer your questions notin... good to see that you are paying attention.
  4. Interesting comments out of Cora when talking about the factors Moto will be considering before making his decision. Not once did he mention money. Maybe notin can get in touch with him and tell him that that is the only thing considered. It's always about the money.
  5. Tough to get back in the saddle after you've been shooting blanks for as long as this group has. I don't see the program in general as being particularly fertile.
  6. I think that they should have been on the phone long ago looking into any and all options that might give this year’s team a shot at actually competing. Maybe they have been.
  7. The latest news looks pretty encouraging - not. Maybe the fact that the latest Japanese superstar didn't visit boston can be taken as encouraging.
  8. Why don’t you give them a heads up about the internment camps during ww2. Or even better why not let him know that our farm system is so much more improved now that better days are just ahead.
  9. I’m thinking that if dodgers want this kid bad enough they’ll get him. They have all kinds of leverage that we don’t have.
  10. Add in a decent second baseman and there you go. Two what look to be decent starters and help up the middle and that would make more sense to me than one big splurge.
  11. Wait a second. I thought it was just about the money. If that’s the case, we know they all will come regardless of the boneheaded signings we might make. $$$. I’m all in. Let’s go Sox and to hell with the crap climate and everything else……
  12. As near as I can tell , the prevailing wisdom here says that it is all about the money so if he has met with and heard from the interested teams it won’t be long now. Highest bidder wins I guess.
  13. Wait - you mean like me you might be one of those delusional fans who actually thinks that the best baseball players in the world might consider other things like these when entering free agency?
  14. You’re right for sure notin. I want to win…
  15. Whoops sorry about that
  16. Money is definitely the motivator but in the event that there is competition for a player the chance to play on a team with better players and commitment to the future is a big deal.

  18. I think that a majority of them want to go where they will have a chance to win.
  19. This is a tough one for me to say but outside of the possibility of a delivery of a boatload of money, what else might attract any premier free agent to Boston. If winning now matters to any of these guys, I don't see what the Red Sox have done to improve their stock.
  20. I'm wondering what the intricacies of this strategy might be. Sign a whole heap of marginal to average players coupled with bunches of reclamation projects and hold on to every minor leaguer who has shown any sign of actually being a prospect.
  21. How about at least giving us a decent second baseman.
  22. Not to worry .. At some point in time when his play is limited and there is no way that he should actually be playing, the Sox will swing a deal for him and all will be forgiven and forgotten. Maybe he'll even wear a Red Sox hat when being inducted into the HOF.
  23. Remember Fred well. If you can afford it, being a bitter old man as long as you have a sense of humor isn't so bad.
  24. Wanting to win and doing what it takes to win as you know are two very dramatically different concepts. Henry in the past not only has wanted to win but he has financed the efforts that enabled his team to win. Personally, I'm a fan and have been since 1955. I don't really feel entitled to anything - lifes been good. Also, I do not care at all about how fans of other teams might feel. And yes I do understand the points that you have been making. Have to say, I have been missing a time when this franchise stood at the top of the food chain. It's still a little early to abandon all hope for sure but I'll be watching reruns of the "Big Bang theory" when the games begin if there isn't just a little more life breathed in to this franchise going forward. That doesn't mean I'm abandoning my fan card, it just means that I don't find them particularly entertaining to watch.
  25. hmm - I think that the Story signing looked pretty good at the time. It just hasn't worked out. As for Yoshi, that just doesn't look like a great signing. Not horrible by any measure but not great. As for Devers - Oh what the hell, we all love Devers. I just wish that he was a better fielder.
