  1. No chance they move him to CF.
  2. I think the bottom line with Beni is that Bloom has bigger fish to fry for 2021. We should just hope the guy can bounce back. If not, he may not be in the 2022 plans.
  3. It was reported by someone that it was the team who urged him to gain some weight and muscle.
  4. Personally I think it's a lot more reliable with obesity, Dean.
  5. As great as Mookie is, though, I don't remember anyone saying the 2019 Red Sox were fun to watch because of him. Most people spent the year complaining about the disappointing record, and the poor pitching/Cora/RestGate.
  6. I think it's also a crying shame you can't keep said player for less than $400 million. Only a handful of teams could even consider a contract that big.
  7. With obesity, the eye test usually works pretty well.
  8. That explains it.
  9. Personally I think he's worth it too, but I can understand why the Sox front office weren't willing to go that far.
  10. I guessed it was him because you mentioned him in a thread I started about superhuman athletes.
  11. Left unmeasured is the risk of things going terribly wrong, for Mookie or even for the economy of baseball itself. I hate projecting injuries to players, but all it takes is one play. I still remember watching the play on which Bo Jackson's sports careers ended.
  12. Oh, I would have given him the $400 mill. But here's the actual quote from Werner after Mookie signed the extension with the Dodgers: “It’s always difficult to trade a talented player of Mookie’s caliber, but let’s revisit this conversation in 12 years. Hopefully you and I will both still be here. That’s a very, very long-term deal for a team to swallow. You guys know as well as I do that the history of long-term deals is checkered at best. We made what we thought was a generous offer but for us it’s time to turn the page.” It says nothing in there about luxury tax or any other considerations, just about the length of the deal. We can all conjecture about other reasons to our heart's content. But that's what the man said.
  13. My guess is the Sox internal valuations came in lower than that for the second half of the deal.
  14. I don't doubt that some of those short term expenses like Price, JDM and Eovaldi could have had some impact on the decision. But those expenses are gone after 2022, leaving only Sale and Bogey after that. Mookie's contract, meanwhile will be running an entire DECADE after that. How the sheer length and dollar volume of Mookie's contract wouldn't be the primary concern is beyond me.
  15. Yes, imagine our chintzy owners getting hung up over only 400 million beans.
  16. Your numbers are very similar to mine.
  17. HRam = 88 million Mookie = 365 million Do those look like comparable amounts? They don't to me, when one is more than four times as big...
  18. It's definitely not on Dave. It was John and Tom who decided $400 million was too much.
  19. "Once-in-a-lifetime" is an overstatement. But he's the second-best player of his generation for sure.
  20. Yes, Aaron Judge (6'7" 282 pounds, 31.5 BMI), for one would probably object to being called obese.
  21. Kevin Cash should be instructing his hitters not to hit the ball in Mookie's direction, not in the air at least LOL
  22. A post that didn't age well. But if the Braves had cashed in more runs early...
  23. Dave Roberts apparently made a grievous tactical error in Game 3 burning Urias for 101 pitches in a 15-1 blowout. I think it was on the MLB website a guy wrote an article questioning that move after the game.
  24. Well, it would be heartless in the way that many business decisions are. The question is whether any other team would do differently, and I don't think any would.
