  1. Sure. But so what? Bloom realized that Downs actually had a higher value than Graterol, so he came out ahead on the deal.
  2. Plan A was Graterol - as a starter. Bloom preferred Downs over Graterol as a reliever. Downs has a higher value than Graterol on Baseball Trade Values. Those are the only real pertinent facts that I can see.
  3. Not sure if 'settled for' is a fair statement.
  4. And then Crisp was traded for Ramon Ramirez...
  5. The fact is that a player like Bogaerts is much more important to have on your team. WAR tells the truth.
  6. The top 2 scores, Reese and Crisp, were not good enough hitters to keep in the lineup when it mattered. That says something right there.
  7. Bogaerts is a 5 WAR player, period. That's the way I see it. This 'defense up the middle' thing sounds great, but I don't really see much proof that it translates to great success. Especially with the changes in the game - defensive shifts, higher K rates, higher home run rates.
  8. Success starts at the top. We've got Bloom, Cora, and Henry/Werner seem eager to keep spending and being a contender. You can't ask for much more.
  9. Player opt outs in contracts are brutal. Bogey having an opt out after 2022 is worse than him being a free agent after 2022. In the latter case, there's some certainty at least. Instead you have the 'will he or won't he' situation. If the guy tails off like Price and JD, they don't opt out.
  10. The Yankees may trade Sanchez, but it won't be to the Red Sox, and certainly not for Chavis.
  11. More and more catchers will look completely inept? That's not good news.
  12. Sanchez is a DH though, and we have a DH.
  13. If they make some good pitching acquisitions, we'll feel better about our chances. Who knows, maybe they'll sign Bauer.
  14. Sounds like a kid who's a big Kris Bryant fan.
  15. Infield defense has changed a bit, of course, thanks to all the wonderful shifts.
  16. But you could do so in your capacity as Talksox Historian.
  17. Yep. I meant "with Bogey and Devers as the left side of the infield".
  18. Larry, did it occur to you that they won 2 division titles and 1 championship with Bogey and Devers?
  19. No one's going to object to Bauer pitching for us, that's for sure. It all depends if there's room for him in John Henry's money pie.
  20. Probably so. Montaigne was a very interesting fellow.
  21. Indeed he did.
  22. Marcus Stroman returns to Mets by accepting $18.9 million Qualifying Offer.
  23. Funnily enough, I'm reading a book right now about French philosopher Michel Montaigne. He was extremely fond of the Greek word "epekho", which means "I suspend judgment".
  24. Plus Sanchez's 2020 sample is nothing short of horrific.
  25. My favorite hockey team as a kid was the Blackhawks, because of Bobby Hull. When Hull jumped to the WHA, that put an early end to my passion for the game.
