  1. I posted a link to a study just a few posts back. The results were favorable toward the pitch clock not causing injuries but it was just for 2023. I'm agnostic on the issue, whatever the data shows it shows.
  2. Agreed, but OTOH what is the point of playing a guy like Thompson so much in ST games unless there's some interest in him?
  3. Here's a study that shows injuries actually went down in 2023. But it also says that further study is needed. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0972978X24002460
  4. I know, all I'm really saying is that it might a little early to say for sure this isn't causing a further uptick.
  5. 15 seconds may be enough time, but this isn't really a fair comparison. The games, the skills and the physical demands are totally different. If pitchers' arms didn't have serious recovery needs they'd be able to throw 150 pitches every day.
  6. Reggie's shot off the light tower was impressive though.
  7. It is an interesting question. Maybe the baseball is a little deader now than it was then. They're always tinkering with the baseball.
  8. It's possible, but is it probable, and if so why? He'll be one more year older. Do you think next offseason teams are going to be spending more? And again, why?
  9. All the stories about the Tigers offer say there was "some deferred money" involved, so you're right about that. At the least Bregman is now one of the counterarguments when someone says "they always take the most money".
  10. The max velocity thing is huge. Richard Fitts added a couple MPH to his fastball and suddenly people are much more excited about his potential as a starter. Before this he was regarded as a back of the rotation guy at best, but now his ceiling looks higher. It's no wonder guys keep chasing more of it.
  11. Common sense suggests the increase in injuries has resulted from the effects on the arm of pitchers seeking max velocity and max spin. I'm not suggesting the pitch clock is a big new factor, I'm just saying maybe it can't be ruled out as a new contributor until we have more data.
  12. I'll assume this data is correct. The only issue is that it may be too soon to draw any conclusions. Because the effects of the pitch clock might be cumulative/long term. I don't think anybody knows at this point. We do know that recovery time is a thing at the macro level (4 days between starts). The pitch clock is about recovery time at the micro level.
  13. I don't know if this is true or not, but it's something that we should be able to get some clear data on, because the pitch clock changes came into effect for the 2023 season. And obviously all the data on injuries to pitchers is readily available. We'll see if there's a significant increase from 2023 forward.
  14. The guys who calculate these things calculated that the present value of Bregman's deal is 95 million, not 120 million. That's 25 million dollars difference. That's a plain, simple, objective fact that you keep trying to dismiss, basically because "he's rich anyway and he'll get it eventually". And "if he stays healthy" is quite the little qualifier when it comes to a 30+ year old baseball player. I guess my overriding point is, if Alex Bregman took the Sox offer primarily based on the premise he would make more money in the long run, it was a very questionable premise, possibly even straight-out dumb. I don't think he's a dumb guy, and I don't think that was what he was thinking.
  15. Well, even if you count the $120 million at full value, he still passed up $51.5 million more than that. We don't really see someone pass up $50 million plus very often in a free agent auction situation. I'm hard pressed to think of many examples.
  16. Our team is kind of gradually trickling in LOL
  17. Grim news indeed.
  18. When it comes to money, defer also means "'less real wealth" because the time value of money is an economic fact.
  19. Sure, but the last one is really iffy IMHO. It seems to be based on the idea that some team that wasn't that interested in Bregman this offseason is going to be a lot more interested next offseason when he's a year older. I just don't see much logic in it.
  20. But you were totally leaving out the impact of the deferrals. So it wasn't an apples to apples comparison. You know that. Bregman took massively less money to play with the Red Sox. But some people are still assuming it was all about making more money in the long run. I disagree, that's all.
  21. Some guys fattening their small samples today! 😀
  22. If the glove Fitts, wear it.
  23. Which was obviously what I meant. If you keep replying you're just proving my point.
