  1. The point is that guys who look like bums in the majors look like stars in Worcester. If they call up Duran and he stinks his first week, how much patience do you think Sox fans will have with him? That's a rhetorical question. We all know the answer is zero.
  2. Hard enough finding starters who can go 4-6 innings.
  3. Betts Bogaerts Devers Benintendi JBJ Which of those guys were 'stuck in minors' before being called up?
  4. Oh yeah, he's doing a terrible job, what with us being in first place, after some had us losing 90 games.
  5. If you put Verdugo at leadoff, who hits second? The only way you can do it is move them all up a spot. The 4 of them are all having career years or close to it. Maybe Cora doesn't want to f*** with that. He's the manager and he has more at stake in this than any of us do.
  6. A lot of teams will be in on Scherzer. The Nats should get back a pretty good package. Not sure we have one that can compete. I don't think it's Bloom's style, really.
  7. The bottom line on the Yanks is that they are far from dead, because of their individual talent. Hell, I think we have to play each other 16 more times, isn't it?
  8. Don't take away my Dalbec. Maybe he can DH after JD is gone. Or play left field.
  9. Yep. Human beings never know when to quit with technology.
  10. True, but Dalbec is also playing first base, which is supposed to be an offensive position. So a lot of fans have been screaming for his replacement at various points.
  11. Agree with all that. It's just that OPS has become such a 'go-to' stat.
  12. Not exactly. A number of hitters have come out and said they were fine with pitchers using sticky stuff because they'd prefer that to getting hit in the head. It didn't become a performance-related issue until recently, for some reason. Maybe it was the combination of Spider Tack and the new baseballs with higher seams.
  13. And yet if he has one good game, and his OPS jumps, the tune will change.
  14. Because when you see wOBA, you think "Stat Nerd Special!"
  15. He's not the only one though. Glasnow blamed his injury on it. And he's a relative kid.
  16. Yes and no. OPS is the only stat that makes these kinds of leaps this late in the season.
  17. Does it correlate better than wOBA? (Honest question and not a snarky one.)
  18. I disagree. Everyone inside the game has known about this a long time and it's been sanctioned. The only reason anything was done was that the science of the substances improved to the point that it was noticeable.
  19. Yeah, we've come to expect them to do that. We'll see if they can do it this time.
  20. Losing Glasnow was a kick in the head for the Rays.
  21. Personally, I think this year is a testament to good management by Bloom and Cora. As long as we've got these two, I think we'll be in great shape. I do get your points, too. World Series? Well, we'd have to be pretty damn lucky. But that's usually the case anyway.
  22. Can't disagree with any of that.
  23. We're in first place this year, Hugh. Why is next year going to be so different?
  24. You might say the jury is still out on the Stanton acquisition. 22 mill seemed like an excellent price. But he wasn't expected to be a DH only, or to have so much trouble staying healthy. But he can still mash when he plays.
