  1. The problem is that we didn't counter-strategy the strategy!
  2. If it's a 1 run game, I think both jobs are tough. I agree with Denny up to a certain point about the 9th inning, because there's a psychological aspect to being the last man standing. But I think it can be overstated, too.
  3. The way our pen is going, it's rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
  4. But JD has probably been doing it his whole career, and he's got one of the highest OPS in baseball. Hitting major league pitching is just incredibly hard to do when the pitchers are hitting their spots.
  5. Any time you have a slim lead or are tied in the late innings it's high leverage, but in your comparison, the 8th inning would definitely be the tougher job.
  6. I think with a good hitter like Verdugo at bat in that situation, you want him to hit the ball hard somewhere. And Verdugo is not an all-or-nothing guy, he uses the whole field. Colome just made the right pitches.
  7. Whitlock pitched 2.2 innings and threw 37 pitches on Monday. So they weren't going to use him again on Wednesday.
  8. Yeah, it's close. The only difference is that Gausman was coming off a very nice mini-season with the Giants. Some people say there's no such thing as a bad one-year contract, too. But the Red Sox may balk at the 19 mill with respect to the luxury tax situation.
  9. And when you have a bullpen that's falling apart, you might as well just have fun. So Richards for closer.
  10. I didn't tackle that part LOL
  11. $19 mill is a lot of money for a comp pick.
  12. I don't think anyone believes it right now. His slump is pushing his numbers down into the 'no way does he opt out' zone.
  13. Brutal.
  14. It is what it is. The reason we don't beat up on those teams is that we're just not that good.
  15. That's on the right track.
  16. So it does make sense.
  17. Gotta be something a little better than that, I think...it has to properly convey the desperation fustercluck that's going on...
  18. The Rays have a Pitching Staff by Committee.
  19. And moon is the right guy LOL
  20. Robles saved the previous game, OTOH. Different night, different results.
  21. But you seem to work less when the Yankees are good and/or we're bad.
  22. moonslav and iortiz, you two are setting new standards for stubbornness and tirelessness!
  23. So what term should we use instead of Closer by Committee? (Committee rhymes with s*****, so that was the first place my mind went...)
  24. Thanks for your common sense, Max.
