    The 1946-1949 Red Sox were eerily similar to the 1975-1978 Red Sox. 1946-lost WS in 7 1947-won 83 games, finished 3rd 1948-lost one game playoff to Cleveland 1949-lost last 2 games to Yankees to finish 1 game behind them 1975-lost WS in 7 1976-won 83 games, finished 3rd 1977-finished T2nd, 2.5 games behind Yankees 1978-lost one game playoff to Yankees

    I have some good news for you, then. They didn't sweep us in Texas. They won 3 out of 4.

    The studies have been done, I have no doubt about that. For the average fan it might be more instructive to look at the hot and cold streaks of a hitter. If a guy goes 4 for 4 one day, what do we expect him to do the next day? We know it's extremely unlikely he goes 4 for 4 again. If you look at the game logs of a hitter you'll see the numbers go up and down like a yo-yo. So take that and expand it to a whole team and it's going to be 9 yo-yos.

    If and when Chaim Bloom does sign someone to a big contract, there's a risk some of that will end up dead money too. They don't call them guaranteed contracts for nothing. The Pedroia dead money was just bad luck. It's a cost of doing business for rich teams, IMHO

    They do spend, and I'm not complaining about JH, never have. But you also have to consider that a lot of the teams we outspend couldn't match us in spending if they wanted to, because they don't have the revenues.

    There has to be some sort of defeatism on the part of the Twins. They must feel like they're going to lose before they hit the field. It's the only thing I can figure.

    We were 8.5 games ahead of the Yankees about 3 weeks ago and now we're 1.5 games behind them. That's a 10 game swing. You can't really blame people for being a little demoralized about that.

    Here are the incredible, mind-boggling numbers for the 20 year period 2002-2021 up to last night's game: Regular season Yankees 91 Twins 36 Postseason Yankees 16 Twins 2 Total Yankees 107 Twins 38 That's a .738 winning pct. for the Yankees in 145 games, equivalent to 120 wins in a 162 game schedule. The Twins have not won a season series against the Yankees since 2001-they tied 3-3 in 2005 and 2006. And they have lost 5 postseason series, winning no more than 1 game in any of them, and 1 Wild Card game.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't you been somewhat critical of the Red Sox for not spending more this year, for deciding to stay under the tax threshold after re-setting last year?

    No team will ever do this. It's too much of an administrative hassle.
