    I don't think he's very safe, honestly. The FO has to be pretty unhappy with a 22-24 mark especially with Crochet and Bregman both living up to their contracts. They're being patient outwardly but I don't think for much longer. As a bench guy Story will still get to play some because of his D and his ability to hit lefties.

    The Masa thing is total weirdness. If the Sox keep up this crappy play a little longer I think they bring up Mayer and Story goes to the bench. They have to do something, even if it's just to appease us fans.

    It's an amazingly awkward roster situation, with the contracts certainly playing into it.

    Since you're the one who's claiming Cora was forced on Dombrowski by ownership, a claim I'm pretty sure nobody here has heard before, I think it's incumbent on you to provide some evidence of exactly where you're getting this information from.

    That's sort of a problem with OPS - differences tend to look smaller. .757 is about 9% higher than .696. Over the course of 162 games that's significant. Managers are supposed to play the percentages.

    Dombrowski hand-picked Cora, so you're gravely mistaken on that point. And first time hearing about that offer from Dombrowski to Betts and some of those other nuggets you disclosed! And the Price-Eckersley episode was in 2017. Can you please check your facts a little?

    The losses in close games could be nothing but randomness. The last 2 games were incredibly frustrating, but they were only close losses because the team battled back from deficits, which is preferable to getting blitzed like in the first game.

    Major league baseball is built for a massive randomness factor.

    Of course. The two games are radically different. Brady and Mahomes have won 70-80% of their games. In baseball your ace pitcher is on the mound for you less than 15% of the time.

    That's true, but the sample for 2025 is too small to indicate he's much better in inning 1 than inning 2, which is what you're kind of trying to hang Cora for. Obviously it's possible he'll just never that 2021 guy again.

    Pretty common for rookies to start hot, then slump as the book gets out on them. Now Campbell has to make his own adjustments.

    Thanks. Some interesting research there. However, this does nothing to support the idea that generally speaking you're better to leave the starter in for that third time, because even if the quality of pitches gets better, the stats bear out that the hitters' adapting to the pitches outweighs that factor. To this point in 2025: 3rd time facing hitters by starting pitcher -.757 OPSa 1st time facing hitters by relief pitcher -.696 OPSa

    It has? The only other season he had a lot of 2 inning outings was 2021, and he was outstanding. His durability as a starter was a different story.

    That's what the Sox thought in 2012 when they brought in Valentine. Kick in the ass managers seem to be a dying breed - maybe completely dead, actually.
