  1. We may get to the point we don't even talk about starting rotations and bullpens any more, just pitching staffs.
  2. Everything I'm reading seems to confirm that Diaz is one of the very worst at calling balls and strikes. So I'm not really sure what notin means by assignments being determined on merit. It's simply ridiculous that one of the worst is screwing up the calls in an LCS game. It shows that whatever system they have is broken.
  3. Amusing, but nonsensical.
  4. I'd like to see a little more info on this. Not saying you have to dig it up. But it would be interesting to know.
  5. To me this is encouraging, and obviously there are some things that have to be worked out.
  6. But why did we get Laz in the ALCS? He got that on merit?
  7. But how many more years was it before Sox fans were being reminded again that they hadn't won since 1918, that the Yankees still owned us and we were still basically lovable losers? We had to wait nearly 4 more decades, until 2004, before we could really say 'now I can die in peace'. And of course many never made it that far.
  8. I wonder if any other single team in pro sports history has ever had so much attention for a season in which they didn't win a championship.
  9. I get that. But I think that's why it's a little overhyped, too.
  10. As far as waiting for the umpiring upgrades to come from MLB, for assignments to be made based on merit? Too late. Time's up.
  11. Just need another whistle-blower!
  12. He's allowed to talk about two different things, no?
  13. They didn't stop Laz Diaz from umping in the ALCS. Not seeing any real evidence of change.
  14. And what makes you think there's any chance that'll ever change?
  15. What we could have is something for everyone-robo umps with the potential for human error! As we've discussed, the strike zone would have to be adjusted for each hitter by their height. Therefore, someone would have to be in charge of making sure the right zone was being used on every at-bat. And they might screw up. Jose Altuve might have a high strike called on him by the robo ump, and protest. Maybe they applied Aaron Judge's zone to him by mistake. The home plate ump would be the guy who has to oversee and troubleshoot all that!
  16. But it's not easy, because the umps have a certain amount of power and they obviously fight hard against the upgrades we're talking about. Can't wait forever.
  17. I became a fan shortly after 1967. There was a lot of excitement, and an incredible amount of heartbreak, in the years between 1968 and 2003. It wasn't until Henry bought the team and we started winning championships that the cloud of heartbreak and frustration was finally lifted. Yaz was my favorite player, but I've always felt badly for him for the painful near-misses he went through. Then again, I felt like I went through them too.
  18. It's going to be another interesting one. But once again we better be prepared to be patient. Bloom is not exactly a rapid-fire wheeler-dealer.
  19. 74 more! That must be the biggest improvement in sports history.
  20. I respect that view, but I don't think it's completely realistic. Since Henry bought the team we've won 4 rings and made it to the ALCS 3 other times including this year. And we're pretty well set up going forward. I'm happy.
  21. I'll be hoping for the Braves as well.
  22. And the 2021 Dodgers really went ALL IN, both in the offseason and at the trade deadline.
  23. And I say "who needs easier"?
  24. Eddie Rosario was acquired by the Braves at the deadline for...wait for it... Pablo Sandoval.
  25. 1968 17 back 1969 22 back 1970 21 back 1971 18 back 4 straight seasons about 20 games out of first. To me that's nothing special.
